Unfortunately, this dinner was not up to their standards and I will not be going back. A $200 dinner for two with raw steaks, over cooked potatoes.
It was our first time in a dine in environment since March 2020 but since it was our anniversary we wanted to have a meal at a good restaurant with good reviews.
I would say that the overall experience was nice, ambiance was beautiful and the service was among the best we have had. The only negative thing was the food. For the service the ambiance and the price - the food did not live up to the expectation. We ordered the child’s pasta for our daughter, the wagyu burger for myself and the crab cake melt for my wife. For our daughters meal the pasta was cooked well but basically had no flavor other than boiled pasta. There was a little hint of butter but nothing else. For my and my wife’s sandwiches the flavor was good but the presentation was lacking. Both dishes looked like something we would get at a cafeteria type of setting.
The proportion of meat to bun for my hamburger was way off - the patty was about the size of a regular McDonald Cheeseburger patty and the pretzel bun had about an inch of exposed bread all around the patty that was sitting in the middle. The first bite of the burger was nothing but bread.
My wife’s crab cake melt was “smashed” pretty thin and the bread was too dry/crusty.
Maybe we went at the wrong time or maybe we ordered the wrong meals. Not sure but couldn’t give any higher rating that 3stars. 5 stars for the service though.
They were the usual "Very Good' in food and service. In these Covid times, it's difficult to criticize, but the $14 calamari was like a $8 diner dish, both in smallish portion, and smallish calamari pieces (and overcooked as a result of small).
Hugo was our waiter and he did a remarkable job! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal!
this was our first Thanksgiving dinner at J. Gilbert's. I was pleasantly surprised that their turkey came out as good as the steak and ribs that we normally had. The 3-course meal pricing was reasonable, although it should have included a coffee and/or tea.
Perfect spot for lunch. Lobster Cobb salad - excellent. Very lovely service, very safe atmosphere.
We ate in the tented area. Service was spot on, food was great. The crab bisque is a teeny bit spicy, poured piping hot at the table over a small mound of crab meat. Perfection. Shrimp were fresh and cooked correctly on the shrimp cocktail. Steaks were awesome.
A place we can always count on for solid service (shout out to Raul) and fine food. Both a neighborhood gem and destination dining.
Wonderful visit to J. Gilberts and birthday celebration! COVID-19 precautions are in place too.
Food was awesome.. The waiter David was really nice!
thx. Great dinner
Had an enjoyable birthday dinner at our favorite steakhouse! Service and food was excellent and couldn’t have asked for more.
Not clean. There were permanent food stains on wall where table was, bread crumbs left on table, marks on the plates and forks, and shelving with junk on it at the entrance.
Bread had a weird taste. Food tasted like detergent.
Staff was weird and not that friendly.
A family came in and all the kids were banging the silverware to make noise. Terrible.
I almost feel like this was a great restaurant that’s been sold to someone that doesn’t care, or the owners abandoned it to be mismanaged.
So bad that I can’t do a second chance. Avoid. Nov 2020.
The food was excellent, but the best part was that I felt safe seeing friends during this pandemic. Three of us sat outside with heat pumped into the open tent, at a table big enough to socially distance. It was a real treat!
Always a great time. Great food and service even during Covid.
Why can't we have regular bread instead of sourdough! My husband and I do not like sourdough but we don't have a choice.
This is a great location for lunch away from the madness of Tysons Corner. The power lunch is a superb deal and any meal I have had there has been delicious. Service is fast if needed and slower paced if that is your preference. Great bread to start with and delicious coffee to finish off a meal.
Always the best food. Good service and great value.
As usual, very tasty seafood.
Love this place. Always reliable. Love dining in the bar, especially on Mondays with 1/2 off bottles of fine wine. The chicken tortilla soup is stupendous - best anywhere. Seafood grill and beef dishes are great. Sit in the bar where Raul rules & rocks - great server/bartender. Can't go wrong with this McLean institution!
i was very impressed by the service and the various precautions taken in light of Covid-19. J. Gilberts is a neighborhood institution and gem and is always a good option, especially for carryout as the uncertainty of Covid-19 may increase.
We sat in bar area to have a quick snack/drink & then carry out rest of dinner to take home. Justin was a fantastic server - attentive & professional. He was spot on with our to-go order and nothing was missed.
Having the tent is great but being completely enclosed by the plastic walls NOT great - that does not help with the air flow. Service and food delicious as always.
We were celebrating our anniversary. This is probably the 12th visit or so. Always a great time!
Good food and good service -- ate outside in the tent. It was OK for what it was.
Not really the restaurant's fault, but we were seated outside and there was a very loud table of two parents with two kids. Kids were very loud and permitted to run around and wrestle. Really inappropriate for a nice restaurant. We'll be back, but we suggest McDonalds payload for future kids meals. Otherwise, food, wine, sanitation and care with COVID measures top notch.
This place is phenomenal. I loved everything about it. we had the ribeye, shrimp, crab cake, lobster bisque, Rockfeller oysters. Need less to say we had a variety of dishes. Loved them and our waiter was amazing as well. So nice and attentive.
We always love this place but COVID has disrupted a usually five star restaurant’s routine. I don’t like giving this restaurant a poor rating but I feel that they could try harder to make their guests enjoy their experience .
The tent was bare. No table covering, no condiments, no bread and no attempt at making you feel like you were eating at an upscale restaurant.
The food was brought out by runners who had no idea how to serve and paid no attention to any requests from the diners. Our main course was served while we were still trying to eat our appetizers and all the soiled dishes were left on the table during the entire meal. We were never asked if we wanted another cocktail and when dinner was over we were not offered a dessert menu.
As I said at the start, we love this place but probably won’t return until the virus is under control and we can feel safe dining inside.
Great Food Great Service Steak Prepared to my liking special free Birthday Dessert great value what more can I say A+++
The Power lunch options are both a delicious and reasonably priced selection. The fish tacos, salad or soup and delicious sourdough bread is certainly ample for lunch.
It’s always a special occasion when we go to J. Gilbert’s.
Food was great and service always exceptional.
We often return. Thank you so much for continually offering an awesome menu and the quality of service is beyond expectations.
Really enjoyed the ambience the food and service was very pleased and will be returning
There was no music and it made it very awkward and we could hear every single other tables conversation. Service and food excellent!
Always a great experience, delicious food and wonderful service! This is one of my favorites!
J. Gilbert's food is always consistent. We have been dining there for a while and the food or service never disappoints. During the pandemic, the restaurant offers a menu to go, to dine inside or outside. Service is always courteous and knowledgeable.
The dinner was a birthday celebration for me. My food was excellent -- filet and shrimp. Henry took very good care of us.
We ordered the seafood platter and the seafood was hot when it arrived but the mashed potatoes we tepid. Real bummer
We always enjoy J. Gilbert’s! The food is very good and service staff are friendly and helpful.
Henry, our professional server, made our Anniversary Dinner absolutely wonderful and most memorable. His customer-focused attention and service were OUTSTANDING and exemplary. We are regular patrons and he is the BEST server at JGilberts.
