Atmosphere is great for dinner and a night cap and sat by the fireplace...nice; however, clothes smelled like wood-fire after leaving the restaurant. I've had NYC's Peter Luger's, Wolfgang's, and Keene's, but the cowboy ribeye here at $50 was not really worth it. Compliment on great flavored KC ribs. Suggestion: add onions and mushrooms as sides.
Good atmosphere and pretty good food, but a bit expensive. The steak was quite good, the lobster salad left a bit to be desired (it’s better at Coastal Flats).
Fantastic brunch! Somewhat pricey, but food and service were worth it. Will visit again.
Nice experience. We tried their buffet once before and enjoyed it, so we decided to let them host Thanksgiving. The Thanksgiving special was plentiful but ordering off of the main menu was not worth the value.
The cheese cake size compared with the chocolate velvet cake left us feel short changed.
We definitely make the wrong choices on our food selection.
Excellent food and service. Only negative comment relates to lack of seating in front entry area for those with mobility issues. My wife has arthritis in both knees and is challenged by having to stand for long periods of time. Only available seating options for most of our wait time were a few high bar chairs which she was not able to use. Fortunately obtained a standard height chair for use when another group was seated short time before our table was available. Comment provided to reflect request for seating made to host staff did not seem to be given adequate attention, even when wife was reduced to sitting on floor following extended wait time.
J Gilbert’s is Always a nice memorable dining experience. Excellent service, good value and delectable cuisine.
Noise level will give most diners a headache so be prepared.
It was Thanksgiving and I expected a crowd but the restaurant handled it well. We were fortunate enough to be seated in the back room where it was quiet. Our server was excellent.
The only problem we had was with our reservation. I had booked a table for 4 at 5:30 at least 3 weeks in advance but the reservation kept coming up as a table for 8 at 12:30. I had to call several times even the night before because I was very worried that we didn’t actually have a reservation. Finally, it turned out that there was another Godfrey party with a reservation at 12:30 for 8 people so it wasn’t a problem but it was a nervous experience because of the demand for seating on Thanksgiving and my fear that we would arrive at the restaurant and not have a table. Fortunately, it all worked out.
Thanksgiving dinner was very nice. We could select turkey or order off the regular menu. It was very crowded and they did well handling all the customers. The portions are very large and the quality is also very good.
Went there for Thanksgiving Dinner. Nice change to have plated instead of the buffet where you had to cross the lobby with waiting guests while getting your food. Did miss some of the buffet choices through (brussels sprouts, dark meat) as the plated dinner did not give any options on the main course. Dinner was plentiful but did feel $39/person was a bit steep for the meal as it was. It was crowded, the waiter told us they were seating for 1,200 that day. Service was exquisite! Been coming here for many years and seen some up and downs, but they won me back over on Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving. Felt meal was a bit rushed. Other than that was a nice meal and settinû
Consistent in every way. Accommodating as well. Thank you for continued quality and service!
Wonderful food and the best service in Northern Virginia!
Our night out was outstanding, food, drink and seevucey
There for Thanksgiving. Service rushed. Brought main before salad half eaten. Sent them back & they were brought back again even though there was not room on the table as the salad plates had not been removed. Asked server NOT to bring until asked for yet they still came again! Food was dry as they never put fresh food on the plate.
you can get just as good quality for less money. food was really good but dessert menu had coconut in several items that looked delicious and 2 of us do not like coconut. of course, if we loved it then we'd be happy.
We always have a great experience at J Gilberts! Thanksgiving was no different. Highly recommend.
Everything was excellent as usual.
I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish – one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didn't quite mesh. Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."
Always a good stop...amazing the quality of food and service. Glad we live in the neighborhood !!
I made a reservation the night before I U was bypassed and Gad to wait too long for a table. It ruined my experience and felt discriminated!
Great as always
Our reservation was honored on time even though the restaurant was extremely busy. Our server was very good - did not rush us to make decisions. I do think the prices for the steaks are a bit on the high side but my filet was well cooked - medium rare just the way I like them!
Excellent night out with our friends, seated promptly, menu well explained, timely service and a great meal. No complaints, been to this location many times and will always go back. Super Job 5 -Stars
J. Gilbert's is my favorite restaurant and I consider it to be the most consistent steakhouse in terms of food quality (especially the steaks). When I went Friday night it was packed, and for whatever reason, the filet and lobster tail weren't as good as usual. I'm guessing it's because they were so busy. I will be back soon.
Hard to have convo with music speaker overhead.
Crab bisque could have used a little crab in it. Otherwise delightful
Seems like they raise prices on a weekly basis. The bread was stale and not warm. The prices are really too high.
The food was very good their brunch and the service excellent. However, we had a handicapped person in our party and we had explicitly requested a table near the front door so that this person could experience minimum pain getting to the table. Unfortunately, the front desk gave away our table, at first, and would not seat us at a nearby table because it was "for 6 not 4." After a few minutes the manager sorted things out and we were seated. After that it was the usual very satisfying experience of J. Gilberts.
Franklin G was very attentive w/great service!
We have been here a few times for birthdays and special occasions. The food is always reliably delicious and cooked to our liking. My favorite are the bone-in ribeye and sea scallops, and my wife enjoys the mixed grill and ahi tuna. The service is iffy because this place gets crowded and we think the servers could use more help during rush hours.
Great place for a conversation. Hugo, the server, was fantastic. We will be back.
It’s really the only steak house in McLean. In the land of the blind the one eyed man in king. Service is just ok. Food is better than most Mclean restaurants.
I took a friend out for her birthday because she loves steak. Our server helped us through the menu and even pointed out the pre-fix option which we both ended up getting. Everything was delicious - best steak I've had in a long time! Service was perfect as well - attentive but not intrusive, prompt but relaxed. Wish I could come here more often!
Server forgot to bring the appetizers
Our server was very nice and knowledgeable. The food was fantastic.
Beef only moderately good quality.
Excellent service by our waitress, Maria!! The food was outstanding!! We were never rushed & had plenty of time to enjoy our meal.
J. Gilbert's is reliably good. we had an excellent waiter -- one of the long time employees. He was congenial without being over-bearing. it is really nice to have a place where conversation is easy!
