J. Gilbert’s – Wood Fired Steaks & Seafood - McLean
We went their for lunch on a Sunday and you were only serving brunch. We were not interested in brunch so we left. We drove over an hour, so we were a little disappointed about the menu or non menu.
Brunch was excellent. There is a nice balance between breakfast and lunch dishes. The prime rib and mac and cheese were outstanding.
First, the steak was VERY good. And The service was pleasant. But with the price of an entree at this restaurant we expected better. My husband chose asparagus as one of his sides and he got literally 4 spears. I had the brussel sprouts and they taste steamed, not roasted. There were alot of positives about this place BUT for what we paid for good food here, we could have gotten superior food and service somewhere else.
Food selections so-so. Music way too loud -- we had to ask three times for it to be cut down or off. Singing music makes conversation difficult.
Had dinner with friends....we were celebrating our 20th wedding an anniversary. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!
We brought our child for first time, and we all loved it. And the next night he asked to go back again!
I especially enjoyed the seafood sampler, and the shrimp cocktail.
Food was delicious, my scallops and crab cakes cooked to perfection. The chocolate cake with raspberry ice cream was just heavenly. Our server was knowledgeable and ready to go the extra mile in helping us select wines. The ambience is always lively....and can easily get LOUD.
We enjoyed our dinner and will be back soon.
Good food and good service
Just need better waiters. Ours was AWFUL -The food was great! Steak was a bit Dry
Birthday. Best value for a classy restaurant.
Best in places for the tamohawk stead, king crab leg, Chilean sea bass dish, warm, honest, and friendly staff, awesome and cozy ambiance, fireplace ... TY so much!!!
One of my favorite restaurants in the DC area. I cannot count how many times I have gone for dinner and over the last year I discovered their brunch. Excellent!
Our waiter Shauna was outstanding. Took care of my daughter with her crazy request of a plate of raw carrots. And since it was my wife's birthday they gave her free desert. She had a large piece of carrot cake. Will go back again .
Our first time ... we liked it a lot ! They even comped us on a free slice of birthday cake - a nice touch 😋
First time there was worth the wait. We truly enjoyed ourselves.
Great meal and restaurant!
I visit J. Gilberts often. The ambiance is pleasant, the food is good, the noise is modest and they don't rush you out so a lengthy business conversation can occur. On this visit, the fish wasn't quite up to par, but that is an unusual experience here. One long standing complaint: most of the booths have seat covering that is splitting open and the springs are uncomfortable. Such a busy restaurant should be able to afford to repair them.
Fabulous service, upbeat atmosphere. Great food (not gourmet, but tasty). We had a great time.
My sons birthday.
J Gilbert’s arranged for a wonderful dinner for our wedding anniversary. White table cloth, great service, excellent meal, and even a free dessert to share. Thank you! We will definitely come back and also recommend this restaurant to our friends.
We have usually had good service but for some reason our experience this time was less than favorable. Though the food was good and we were enjoying it, the bus girl wanted to take my plate away before my guests had even finished their meal. Then our actual waitress came by, too my guest's plate....while she was still chewing her food...and didn't even bother to ask is she was finished. This is unacceptable in a nice, upscale restaurant such as J. Gilbert's. Perhaps further training is needed??
ALWAYS my first choice for a special brunch. The best in the Washington DC metropolitan area.b
I always have a great time. J Gilbert’s is one of our favorite restaurants. We had ribs ( we weren’t thrilled about the ribs) and Lamb Chops (they were excellent)..
We were celebrating new promotions at work for my sister and I and also quality time with our Dad. We had made a reservation but arrived too early for it and they couldn’t seat us. So once I told the manager I was diabetic and needed to eat soon, he was super kind in finding us a table at the bar. Rob took such good care of us despite being super busy the whole time we were there. He was very timely, efficient and overall courteous. He really made it a point to give us great customer service especially since on top of the meals we ate, we ordered food to-go for our significant others at home. We will definitely be back to J.Gilberts and will hope to sit at the bar again, especially with Rob! Until we dine again...
The rack of ribs was terrible. Fatty and tasteless. I have been to this restaurant before and enjoyed the steaks and drinks. I told the server not to box the uneaten rubs because I didn’t want them. A waiter told us a number of previous patrons felt the same but that the manager said others love them. The restaurant took off half of the ribs cost from the bill even though I told them that was not necessary. Excellent place but avoid the rack of ribs.
Nice place with good food and wonderful atmosphere
Horrible service and food presentation. Expected much more at this price point. Go to Applebee’s for a comparable dining experience. Perhaps I shouldn’t insult Applebees this way.
Excellent food and service. Our waiter was particularly attentive and helpful. A birthday celebration to remember!
The food was, as always, excellent! The following was ordered: Maryland Crab Bisque, crab cakes, lobster Cobb salad, chocolate cake and seasonal fruit tart. Everything was perfect, and delicious! It was my aunt’s 90 th birthday, she has been a patron for years.....thank you!
Terrific service from a fellow military soul. Food and drink always good.
This corner, its predecessor & J. Gilbert's now, has been our family's go-to place since forever. On this particular occasion, seated at a table in the bar area, the service was genuine and pleasant in every single aspect. Food on par.
I have loved this place for years. I worked in McLean for years and found it is much easier to get to than a Tyson's Corner place. The steak salad is a deconstructed steak and wedge salad that is super tasty. And the perfect size. When I'm back in town again I will return. Service is friendly and I recognized a waiter from 5 years ago. This shows the staff loves the place too!
Great place for a nice special occasion dinner or just for a great dinning.
Arrived for Happy Hour at 5:10 (4 to 7 is HH.) It was jammed, no seats, tons of people, could hardly get into bar. Thinned out about 6:15. Dinner was fine, but we were seated at a nice cozy corner, (our anniversary dinner); after about 15 minutes, a very bright light came on over our table. Killed the mood. Seems a very large party next door complained it was too dark in their room, so they turned lights on full blast and our table was on that circuit. Food was fine, steak not exactly medium as requested, but waiter was very good. Overall we would go back, just adjust time for HH and won't sit at that "cozy table" again.
Compared to other steak houses, very good value for the money.
Wonderful place to catch up with friends at lunch!
Went to celebrate my birthday. Everything was great. Had the Tomahawk Ribeye which was outstanding. The carrot cake was the best I've had
They seated us a little before 2pm for Sunday buffet and assured that the food will be provided until 3pm. Most of desserts were gone by 2:30pm and were not refilled.
Except for the uninspired desserts, this was a good dining experience. Tasty, well prepared dishes; great variety; a good value, considering how many fresh oysters we had; and I was able to hear my companion! Wonderful server as well. We’ll do this again!
Love the place. I have been several times ,but it was first time for my two guests. They really enjoyed it
Great food as always
