Sides were great. Main course way overcooked and much lower quality than I expected based upon previous experiences. They took some of their best things off the menu. Still good but a bit pricy for the quality. Service was really slow and the place was empty.

Always excellent and prepared staff and food. Can't deny this is one of the best steakhouses in the DMV period. The house steak sauce needs to be bottled and sold!

Food and Service is always excellent ! Last night our servers were Travis and Alice were wonderful - very knowledgeable on menu items and very attentive to our needs.

My son and I had a great time. Austin, our server, was very professional. Service was excellent. Steaks were delicious. My son loved the fries and the macaroni and cheese. My baked potato loaded and creamed corn were fantastic. Thanks for a very special father-son evening!

For those who have lived in Northern VA for more than 10 years, we know very well about the steady decline of restaurant quality in the area, and the accompanying inflation of prices. J. Gilbert’s is unfortunately part of this decline….we paid Rolls Royce prices only to get to drive a Yugo. The only highlight of our experience was Xuelin. She was a very good server, so this criticism is not directed at her. We had a party of 6. 3 of us ordered from the “prixe fixe” menu which was definitely not worth the price for the quality. The steaks were OK, but everything else was poor…especially the French onion soup which was disgusting and overly salty because of the excessive amount of beef bouillon. We have all been to Paris, and have eaten REAL French onion soup…we made a big mistake by ordering J. Gilbert’s horrible version of it. The appetizers were equally as disgusting. The onion rings were overcooked and the fried calamari was clearly previously frozen and reheated. You can get better quality fried food like this at Cracker Barrel for a fraction of the price. The sides were also gross…the potatoes and cauliflower were smothered in a heavy cheese sauce that tasted like Velveeta, and the macaroni & cheese was overcooked and dry. The asparagus was OK. However, the presentation on all the dishes was very weak. Lastly, the interior decor of the restaurant hasn’t been updated in 30 years….probably not since it originally opened. We spent $475 including tip for a party of 6. $150-$200 would have been more appropriate for the quality of food. If you are looking to spend $75-$100 per person for dinner, you are better off driving or taking the Metro into DC where restaurants are exponentially better. Don’t waste your time or money in Northern VA, especially with old outdated restaurants like J. Gilbert’s which are way past their prime.

J. Gilbert's is a solid McLean establishment, which has been consisten over the decades. They have recently modified the menu where classic items such as the Duroc Pork Chop, Tortilla Soup and their Reuben has evoked some consternation. Hopefully, the comments will make their way to corporate and will be considered.
