J. Gilbert’s – Wood Fired Steaks & Seafood – Glastonbury Ratings and Reviews
We had the 70 day dry aged steak and Nantucket Sugar Drop scallop specials. I would recommend them to anyone. The food was incredible and wait staff friendly, helpful with suggestions and attentive. I recommend reservations. Great ambiance and foodie worthy location and dishes. It is a bit pricey but the food quality makes the value palatable :-)
I’ve been to J Gilbert’s many times and always have been pleased. This visit was extremely disappointing. Both steaks were not cooked as requested and my steak was all fat. The waiter was extremely pleasant and friendly and I didn’t want to be that typical complaining customer so I pretended that I just wasn’t able to eat my steak because I was full already from the sides. We were celebrating our recent engagement and I chose J Gilbert’s because we have always had a great meal. Wish we chose a different place to celebrate.
One of our favorite restaurants! The food and service are always wonderful! We are especially fond of the handcrafted Bleu Cheese Chips and, as usual, ordered them as an appetizer. Unable to finish the plate our server asked if we were done and set it on the ledge behind our booth. As there was a large portion still on the plate, I assumed she was packing the remainder for us to take home. She packed the other items we were unable to finish, but I was so disappointed to find the chips not included when I unpacked the bag at home:( Was really looking forward to a late night snack of this delicious menu item!
J. Gilbert's has been a special occasion staple in my world for well over a decade now. You can always expect fantastic service and delicious food. Our trip there recently was no exception. The server was personable and attentive and our meal was outstanding. I got the 6oz filet combo with scallops, asparagus and poblano au gratin. My husband got the Kansas City strip with mashed potatoes and green beans. Can I just say, I love J. Gilbert's more than many other steak places because of the CHAR that's on the steaks - it's, by far, the best part. The steaks melt in your mouth and are incredibly flavorful. We managed to save room to split a dessert - the chocolate mouse layer cake, and that was just as special and decadent as the rest of the meal.
J. Gilbert's has never let me down yet. Can't wait until the next time I go back!
Overall our experience was very good, the service was excellent, the waiter was very attentive and friendly. Two of our steaks were undercooked but still tasted good, this is the first time this has happened to us here, it doesn't appear to be a recurring problem. The menu had a few more items on it, I like having more choices. Have always had a good meal here.
Always heard great things, and we finally got a chance to go for our anniversary. The food was absolutely fantastic, I had the ribeye which was the best in recent memory. My wife had a filet with scallops and it was all cooked perfectly and tasted great. A nice varied selection of sides, and they all stood out with robust flavor.
Definitely a great place to celebrate a special occasion!
We always have a wonderful dining experience when we go to JGilbert. The food is fabulous and the martinis are to relish! Our server Nat was friendly and very attentive . The manager walked around to greet and speak with the customers and he was delightful and very gracious. Dining at JGilberts is a must if you live anywhere in CT. The finest restaurant in the entire state 👨🍳👨🍳👨🍳👨🍳👨🍳
This is usually our favorite place to eat but it’s starting to show some hiccups. Took my wife for her birthday and had to make reservations two weeks in advance. She ordered swordfish and I ordered lamb rack medium rare. Her dish was good but mine was very rare so they took it back and server seemed a little rude. I am pretty sure I know the difference of medium rare or rare. Once it came out it was very good. At dinners end we ordered a piece of cake to split. Can you believe it took twice as long to get dessert than dinner. Anyways we still like this place but it’s starting to lose that special edge in how quick they want to turn tables.
