J. Gilbert’s – Wood Fired Steaks & Seafood – Glastonbury
Impeccable service!! Best wood-fired steak in all of CT, hands down. Highly recommend Nate as your server.
The waiter recommended a special of steak for $36 so my husband ordered it and it was terrible. He should have returned it. It was full of grizzle.
I had salmon which was good and the other couple had a combo with scallops which was good. They wish they had ordered a sauce to go over the meat since it was a little dry.
Used my birthday gift from J.Gilberts to pay for some of my birthday dinner with my family. We all chose our meals and found the quality/taste/presentation were excellent! This restaurant never lets us down!
Great Atmosphere, Great Vibe. Haven't ever had a bad meal. The potato chips are a must!
My wife and friends really like this place! This is a high end steak place and we know that we're getting quality food. We really like the ambiance there too. We wished that Avon had a place like this. If you're looking to treat yourself or someone, take them here. You'll pay, but once in a while it's worth it!
Great meal, however waitress was not friendly ... service was meh
My husband loves this place and has chosen it for his birthday dinner 2 years in a row. While the restaurant is good and clearly a favorite of many (it was packed at 5 pm on a Saturday), I don’t think it lives up to the hype. I love a blue cheese wedge salad and I must tell you Outback’s version is better than this one. The dressing is just not very good and it could use a drizzle of balsamic.
I ordered the filet and crab cake. There is nothing special about the crab cake and the sauce served along side is too spicy for my taste. The lobster Mac and cheese is very good. We were disappointed to see that sautéed spinach had been removed as a side dish. I ordered the mushrooms as my second side. It is ridiculous that they up charge for those. I can understand the up charge for the lobster Mac. We also ordered dessert and this is the second restaurant in a week that has not even offered coffee/tea to go with dessert. There was also an issue with giving credit for $25 towards my husbands birthday dinner and while the manager came over to say he saw my husband as a subscriber he offered no explanation as to why my husband didn’t get the offer nor did he offer to take it off the bill, which really annoyed me. I had to ask him to at least comp his piece of birthday cake!
All that matters is the birthday boy enjoyed his dinner, but me (the one paying for it) was unimpressed this time. I wish I was able to give 3.5 stars, as that is what I believe is a fair rating.
Excellent! I love this place and the food is great quality. there is never any fat on the steak.
Too notch food and service.
Excellent service and food was delicious! A bit pricey though.
Everything was absolutely wonderful. We meet a very special couple as often as possible. J. Gilbert's is our go to meeting place and thanks to the food, the service and the people we had a wonderful time. We can't wait to do it again! The guys already have what they are going to eat next time all picked out!
This is our favorite restaurant. The service and food is always excellent.
Consistently excellent dining experience. Food selection and service is top notch.
i love j gilbert’s because the food is of the highest quality
We had another fantastically prepared meal and our waiter Rob was an excellent server. We can't wait to come back.
We had excellent service all the way aroubd! Our food was absolutely delicious! This is why we always come back!
Time and time again, so solid, such quality tasting food, ambiance and Don are waiter was fabulous.
A very nice time on a Wednesday night. Service and food were very good, a little disappointed that they were out of a featured wine at 7PM however.
A great place to celebrate our anniversary. It had been a while since we had dined at J. Gilbert's and it did not disappoint. We won't be waiting so long between visits again.
This our favorite steak restaurant, keep the good work, service was excellent.
The half price wine bottles on Monday were a great surprise. Knowledgeable staff and great food selections. A bit pricey but worth the value.
slightly disappointed with this visit. our table ordered a favorite - cowboy cut bone in rib eye cooked medium & also a filet cooked medium rare. The filet was cooked perfectly and very good, the rib eye was slightly overcooked, more towards medium well. The flavor was still good, but it was dry. feel this was not really due to being only slightly overcooked but that this was not the best cut of meat for a rib eye, as there was No marbling, the only 'fat' was thin and only on the outside of one edge of the steak. no fat probably also made it cook differently.
The service was its usual Outstanding! could not ask for anything more, attentive not intrusive, knowledgable, friendly.
Will absolutely go back & will order the rib eye again - hopefully the cut of the meat will be like it usually is next time.
Wonderful as always. Delicious ribeye and sides of creamed corn and poblano au gratin potatoes. So so good!
The food and service are the best! This is our favorite restaurant and we have been coming here for years, we Love it!!!
Food was delicious. Perfect night.
The food was fantastic and the service great. My only criticism is that it was a bit too noisy. But we will be back when we return to visit our daughter at Wesleyan.
Hands down best service and food around! Come here for our anniversary every year and have never been disappointed.
25th Birthday. We had a great time!
Better steak and value than Ruth Chris, Morton’s and Capital Grill!
It was phenomenal as always! Great steak, always cooked to perfection. Great service
Service was exceptional as always. The fried calamari appetizer was mostly carrots this time.
We have, for years, dined at J. Gilbert’s on Halloween to celebrate my wife’s birthday and in all those instances the restaurant has helped make the event extra special.
Everything was perfect from the service to the food!!! Keep up the great work J. Gilbert’s! We will definitely be back!
The martini was perfect. The bread, salad, filet, scallops, asparagus and potatoes were delicious. Dessert was just icing on the cake.
Average steak and seafood house. Over priced, small plates.
Great service! Steak/scallops always delicious. Of note...the baked potato was lukewarm but tasty.
The food was outstanding for all 4 of our dinners. Steak was cooked perfectly and delicious, as were the accompaniments to the dinners. The wait staff was attentive but not intrusive and took care of our table exceptionally well. Even the bar staff are excellent and make great mixed drinks, like our mojitos which many bars won’t or can’t make well. Our guests had never been there and they said it was the best dinner they had in a long time. We will be going back again soon!
Everything we ordered was way too salty. Very disappointing because it would otherwise have been delicious. Our server, George, was outstanding. We were celebrating our anniversary and they acknowledged that with heart confetti on our table and anniversary wishes. We took the food home and wound up throwing it out because of the excessive saltiness. We previously loved J. Gilbert’s but won’t likely go back.
We came for my husband's birthday; we were greeted with a decorated table immediately on arrival. The food and drinks were excellent. We were not rushed and we enjoyed the meal in the bar area where it was quiet, cozy and very comfortable. J. Gilbert's is our go-to place for special occasions.
Totally thought I was going to get steak, as it is wonderful, but opted for the rack of ribs :-) pumpkin cheesecake was also wonderful. Husband got the scallops. Can't go wrong with J Gilbert's.
