J&K Steakhouse of Morristown Ratings and Reviews
VERY slow service, VERY understaffed. But we had a good time (the waiter told us that we should order fast to avoid the rush) and he was right. There were three waiters where there should have been 10. We waited over an hour for entrees. The reviews are correct, you will wait a very long time for food, but the steaks were terrific and we had a good time. They are severely understaffed, and the reviews told us so, but they don't seem concerned about rectifying it.
The food as always was great! the service was terrible. They really need to figure out how to host a private party for 35 and fill every table without the service suffering. We were there with family celebrating a special birthday and the poor service put a damper on the dinner. Maybe a Saturday night is not the night to go there.
To say our NYE experience was disappointing is an understatement. I had made a reservation in November for the date at 815, reserved the small ballroom on the right side, arrived and were told we didn't have it. This was confirmed numerous times over the past month including twice last week. Upon arrival they said, "party of 9?", ummm no we have 19. We had a party of 19 that were smushed into a table like sardines, waiting and hour and a half for our appetizers, which came out in 5-10 delivery times (people were done when others were getting theirs). Dinner didn't come until 1035 some undercooked, sent back, heated up in the microwave, and returned, and we had to leave at 1115 still not having received dessert which we had to get to go. On top of that you made us pay a gratuity, on what I don't know. Our server never came by the table, never checked on us, had one can of club soda at 8pm and none the rest of the night, forgot things that were asked for, and we were there for 3 hours watching other tables walk out and leave, yell at kitchen staff, and discuss their miserable experience as well. When you make a reservation for 19, pay almost $2000, confirm a reservation and location request numerous times, and have the experience we all had is deplorable. We should all receive our money back as should several other tables. As a lifelong resident of town, I was excited to bring all of my friends and family to J&K only to leave disappointed, infuriated, hungry, and overall disgusted with my entire dining experience. Please contact me and let me know how my table will be reimbursed for J&K ruining our NYE and entering 2018 angry as opposed to happy.
We made a reservation for NYE, a holiday that we typically dine out. I have to assume waiters called out, because we saw one guy running the floor. Service was painfully slow and all patrons were annoyed with the delays. I feel bad for the staff that worked, because they were busting their humps, but it doesn't excuse a 2.5 hour seating during which we were served 2 courses. That is management's fault. While it was a busy holiday, it was a small pre-fixe menu that under the normal staffing circumstances, should have been easy to churn out.
Regarding the meal, we really, really enjoyed our tuna tartar and crab cake appetizers, which were solid portions and flavorful. We tried this place mainly because i love a good NY strip, and i have to say, the steak was awful! I took a gamble and ordered it rare and it truly was black and blue. The top was charred and inedible (at one point i thought - why did i put that in my mouth?), there was no flavor, and it was tough to cut. My husband, on the other hand got the ribeye and it was great, but I can't get over how bad mine was.
I recognize that holidays can complicate the dining experience, but they really missed the mark this time.
We took out parents to dine on Christmas Eve, the ambiance was not festive but the restaurant was packed and we had our table on time. Salad was very crisp and dressing great, meats were very good in general except for one of four which was slightly overcooked, the fries were not very good, a bit hard and too oily. One dessert was outstanding and the other just average. It is a restaurant on the expensive side, so you would expect everything to be perfect. For a special occasion is an option. Service was helpful and correct. Being a BYOB helps you pair meals with a great wine.
Although this is a very busy time of year for restaurants, J&K took special care of our group, reserving us a round table in the front window that was warm and cozy and muffled the din from other diners so that we were able to easily hear each other.
The generous sized steaks were cooked to perfection and the family style sides were enjoyed by all.
Holiday dinner with my team before a concert at MPAC. The hostess is wonderful! Called in advance about dietary restrictions (I’m a Celiac with dairy allergy) and found out they’re BYOB, but she had great wine suggestions to go with their delicious Sangria mix ($15 per pitcher for them to make it). One bottle of wine per pitcher. So we stopped in to Grapeful Palate a minute walk away (they deliver ($15 minimum)) where their staff was very knowledgeable of J&K’s menu to suggest wine for the Sangria.
The hostess was absolutely wonderful. Our waiter on the other hand was adequate at best.
He had the personality of a newly painted wall. The Kansas city steak was good but nothing special. It was cooked well, just the quality of the meat was lacking.
I have had better meals there in the past so would go back.
Went there for a date night. Delicious food, friendly staff, and the noise level was not bad at all for the amount of people there! I really enjoyed the experience. It’s expensive, but if you want a good steak, you expect that. Definitely recommend for (special) date nights, anniversaries, or parties!
Our first time. We found this very nice restaurant on OT on a night we were attending a show at the Mayo Center.
So lucky to have found it. Trendy newer places were packed and this little gem was quiet and easy to get into. Service was amazing! Food was so good! We had the mushroom soup. Very very nice. Calamari and crab cake were very good too. We were in a rush and skipped dessert, they we were celebrating and they brought my friend a desert with a birthday candle while we were paying the bill, free of charge and so fast there was no waiting.
Really a lovely experience.
The food was a definite WOW on this first visit. Everyone in my family had a different cut of steak and all were cooked well and extremely full of flavor. The service was absolutely terrible- from the hostess that scowled as we walked in to the curt waitress and the servers that rushed our food onto the table and then ran away because they were so busy- you felt very unwelcome. The back room we were seated in had zero atmosphere. We went on a Sunday. Maybe that is their "D" team/understaffed night. I'm not sure I will rush back, but may try down the road on another night.
What a terrible and disappointing experience ! Service was simply ridiculous ! We waited for about 20 minutes before our waiter finally showed up to take our order.
Food was served by the busboys who also took away the empty plates. Our server didn’t check with us once ! Appetizer was bland and underwhelming . We were waiting and waiting for our waiter to show up to no avail.
We had to ask 2 busboys to call him so we can address the issue with our appetizer . About 10 minutes later he finally showed up and told us he had to take care of other guests who weren’t happy with their lobster!
He took the appetizer back to the kitchen . You would think that since our appetizer was sent back he would at least make sure we are happy with our main course.
Busboys served the main course dishes , picked up our plates after we were done but the waiter was nowhere to be found ! My chicken Marsala was overlooked and dry but I decided I just can’t deal with sending it back and waiting for a new dish . My husband’s risotto with scallops was bland .
We were celebrating my husband’s birthday . I informed our waiter about it and he said he will bring a desert with the candle and sing happy birthday ... sounded like a good plan ... guess what ? The desert with the candle never showed up, the waiter just brought us a check and said “hope to see you again soon”! I don’t think so !
I decided to go to JK steakhouse and was hoping for a great birthday dinner experience . Unfortunately , it turned out to be a huge disappointment !
Great service and good food. Three of the steaks were cooked to order and were fantastic. The fourth one was undercooked but not sent back. That friend wouldn't know a good steak if it fell in his lap anyway! Overall this was a good experience and I look forward to my next meal there. The picture is the "Kansas City Bone In" cooked medium rare.
Disappointing. The restaurant was understaffed and it showed in all aspects pf service. The servers who were there did their best but they were barley keeping their heads above water. At these price points I expect a quality experience and it was just not to be had on this evening. Finally, my bone-in rib eye was tough, so much so that when I was cutting it other sides on my plate kept getting pushed off due to the level of effort to cut the steak. Again, disappointing.
I usually come here for a good steak, however I was slightly disappointed. The steak was not cooked the way I asked and had to send it back. It was also not seasoned well so I asked for chimichurri sauce and was charged for it. I was quite surprised at that. I just wasn't impressed with my steak this time. Service is always great.
