My go-to place for theater night, now has full bar, no longer BYOB weekends
service: place was not crowded at all and it took way too long between appetizer and main course other than that good
My wife had the salmon and said it was delicious. I had the 16oz bone-in ribeye and found it just ok. Didn't really think it was worth the $40 charge, but that's just my opinion, right?
Was there to see a show at the mayo performing arts center
One steak had to be sent back because it was tough. The replacement was not much better.
No one in our party of four thought their meal was great. Service from bar was very slow.
We will not go back. Thank you!
We were disappointed in our first visit last year but we heard it was under new management so we gave it another shot. We reserved and made it clear we needed a table by a corner because a member of our party had hearing issues. They tried to seat us in the noisiest section. When my wife complained they made other people move as we stood there, very awkward. The steak I ordered was very grisly hard to cut and harder to chew. The asparagus was barely cooked. The waiter only checked our drinks when I caught his attention every 20 mins or so. The furniture was torn and very uncomfortable. After we paid a pretty hefty bill and we were leaving I said goodnight to the hostess who never bothered to look up from her phone. Very bad experience and will not be repeating this mistake
The food was semi decent but the service was awful. The waiter wouldn’t come over initially, bad refill on waters. The waiter was more interested in his other 20 tables that he was waiting on. He didn’t introduce himself or give us any specials. He just walked over after 20 minutes of waiting and asked what we want while looking at other tables. The steak was firm and chewy, too burnt on the outside.
Delicious Steak....but get there in time to be done before the live band starts at the bar in the next room. Unless you know sign language, you will be unable to communicate with your guests. And if you have tinnitus get ready to loose your hearing. I am sure that the noise level exceeds current OSHA standards for safe sound levels
I am not going back!
My husbands birthday
Didn’t seem like the restaurant had enough help, we were sitting in the back room and there were only 2 other tables, 4 or 5 empty. Our waiter was totally rushing around from the front room to the back and was flustered. Took at least 20+ minutes to get drinks and had to keep asking to place our order. The other 2 tables had different waiters. Luckily, the food was DELICIOUS and made up for the inattentive service.
Food is outstanding. Ray was working so service was excellent. Wine prices are ridiculous but sangria is excellent!
Food was very good except my steak was overcooked. I ordered it medium and it was well done. Next time I will order it medium rare. The ambiance was also very nice. I didn't like our waiter. He took a long time to come over to the total. Usually you order drinks first and he just took the whole order and rushed us through the ordering. Didn't tell us fries came with the order and we over ordered the sides. It was really hard to get his attention.
Food was good...service just ok. They are in desperate need of managers.
food was good, but service was slow and we felt neglected. Bill came and there was an extra $75.00 added to our bill of food we did not order. Good thing I double checked the receipt.
The only thing worse than the food was the service. Very disappointed. Right away we noticed the hostess had an attitude - we assumed maybe she was having a rough day, even though the restaurant was half empty. Did not get menus for 15 minutes, and our drinks took 45 minters to arrive. Our “5 or 6 shrimp” shrimp cocktail came with 4. We ordered some fish and a ribeye; medium-rare came out so bloody we had to send it back to be cooked properly - it came out ok, still mediocre. Fish was ok; a little salty. Roots is a much better experience for $200, but I would be willing to try J&K again when new management is inevitably called in.
The worst experience I’ve had in a steak house, period. There’s a reason why they always have availability on Open Table. We had a 7:30pm reservation and arrived right in time, immediately seated. 15 minutes to get menus, then 10 more minutes before the server walked by and said “I’ll be right there”, but I insisted on placing at least drinks orders in. 20 minutes later we got up and left, without drinks or a waiter coming back to take our order. That’s 45 minutes into a reservation, and no drinks or orders taken. They were super rude when we left, and the 2 tables either side of us were furious also as they had been seated 10-15 minutes before us and only one of them had drinks, neither had been able to order. One of the hostesses was like “yeah but we’re really busy”, but sorry guys, they just weren’t. Second time in a row this has happened when we’ve eaten there, and this time it was our wedding anniversary, so I wasn’t having it. I won’t be going back, and wouldn’t recommend J&K to anyone. The steak was okay at best the prior 2 times I’ve eaten there, but they don’t seem to understand how to cook a medium rare. Some improvement needed.
So this has been one of our go to places for a nice steak dinner but there were some major changes this time...first it is no longer byob except for select nights and the prices for the good cabernet was ridiculous...the hostess who we love and always makes us feel special was not there nor was Ray, our favorite waiter. Sangria was very good as were the steaks, fries, crab cocktail and wedge salad. Service was friendly but beyond slow...after 45 minutes we had to find the hostess to see if we could order...we saw others complain and the table next to us left after they didn't even get drinks after 40 minutes. I am hoping this was just a glitch and not an indication of how things are now...we will try again as the food is really good.
Live music, good steak, bit noisy when with kids but overall good ambiance & food
14 oz NY strip was cooked perfectly to my taste. Medium Rare was warm and rad in the middle and the outside of the steak had some crisp to it. Wine list is very solid on California Wines. Many on the expensive side, but not overpriced for a restaurant.
We enjoyed the food very much and it’s one of the few restaurants in town where we could converse without shouting! I’d definitely go back!
I have dined at J&K previously and have enjoyed it, but my experience last night was below par.
The porterhouse I ordered was mealy, and seasoned with something awful that was very pepper-forward. I only took two bites of it before deciding that it absolutely wasn’t worth it to continue.
I left very disappointed, and will not be back anytime soon.
In addition, the waitress was terrible. She did not seem to know the menu at all, and - not once, but twice!, walked up to the table I was sharing with my bearded boyfriend, and asked “How’s it going, ladies?”
This is the second time we have been there when the bar area is quite crowded and you only have one bartender. You can't expect him to handle everyone in a timely manner. He was trying as hard as he could. There should be at least two people there when it's crowded.
Forgot tea at and and small bill discrepancy was not rectified - overall, good experience!
Been coming here for several years. We notice a slow decline in value and not getting better
We went before a show. My wife ordered the stuffed tilapia The menu said stuffed with scallops and shrimp but it was stuffed with crab and did not have any sauce. I ordered a rib eye medium but it came well down. We were on a time schedule so no time for corrections. There was music playing in the restaurant but also live music in the bar. It made for some terrible ambience. I will say the waiter was very nice and seemed to know what he was doing. I’ve been to way better steakhouses. Im sure I wouldn’t be back
This is our 3rd visit and it was a disappointment. Excellent food quality, however, very poor service. Too many bus/service team members and too few actual waiters. He did not write down our order and kept repeating it back and then we never received one of our sides. Not attentive during the meal, far too stretched in his section. The manager is the bartender, getting his attention to give feedback was time consuming, I tracked him down myself. A ruined anniversary date for my husband and I. Unfortunately, we won’t be back.
Good, but not great steak. For the price I expected a better steak and better service. To be clear, nothing was bad, but they have 5 star prices and you get a 4 star experience. And I would consider going back.
To wit: servers had to be asked multiple times for the wine list, steak was rare (as ordered), but lacked the surface caramelization you get at a first rate steakhouse.
Even though the restaurant was only half full, very loud.
On the plus side, they include fries(which were very good) for the table at no extra charge. But the waiter neglected to tell us that.
Too little time between appetizer and main course but otherwise as good as usual — especially the steaks, always super.
This was our first visit to J&K and we will be returning. Steaks were cooked to order and were excellent. The Crème Brulee dessert rates a star also.
Too noisy in dining room. Food was good and plentiful. A little pricey.
As a frequent patron to this restaurant, this recent visit was both delightful AND disappointing. The service is a constant... pleasant, professional, attentive hostess & service staff. Also LOVE their new Mon, Tues, Wed BYOB option. In addition, the bar is always willing & able to serve up a craft cocktail! The disappointing portion of our evening was the filet... very dry & chewy. The waiter described to us “dry-aged vs wet-aged” however, regardless of the aging process, the general comment amongst our party was the steaks were very dry!! We took our friends there choosing J&K’s over ROOTS, however, I’m not sure we would’ve had a dry filet (perhaps more pricey) steak at the latter. Salads seemed a little blah too, with not much more than somewhat wilted greens. On a positive, the bread pudding was delicious!
We enjoyed a nice dinner here early on a Saturday evening. We were seeing a movie so we told the staff they had to hustle. We had 2 appetizers - lobster platter and jumbo shrimp cocktail. They were excellent and we loved the cocktail sauce. Then we shared the porterhouse for 2. This was good but was slightly over cooked in spots for my liking and wasn’t hot when it was served. That said, it tasted very good. Overall it was good dinner.
Food, service, quality were all excellent and it's nice to have a full service bar. Manager Susan and our waiter Jeff enhanced our experience with their consistent and attentive service. Never disappointed here.
The steaks were excellent, the service was superb. The wine and drinks were way overpriced.
Food was very bad. Service and ambiance was good.
What an amazing experience! The meal was deliciously prepared, service was professional and fast! The evening was overall an outstanding one!
Service lagged behind food, probably understaffed
Too loud from bar. It ruins the steakhouse
Now they have a liquor license and the cost is too
Much for what you get
Everything was absolutely fabulous. Steaks cooked perfectly to order. Drinks were delicious and well balanced. Server was great!
