J&G Steakhouse Scottsdale at The Phoenician
** J&G Steakhouse will be closing early at 9:00PM on the following dates:
Sunday, January 6th- Wednesday, January 9th
J&G Steakhouse offers a sophisticated collection of steakhouse classics as interpreted by Michelin starred chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Located atop the world famous Phoenician Resort, the restaurant is draped in a rich palate of purple and gold with a modern, stylish flair. Diners will enjoy dramatic sunsets and views of the Valley while dining on premium meats and a global selection of fish. The bill of fare is complimented by fresh, local ingredients and worldly spices and is masterfully executed by Chef de Cuisine Jacques Qualin.
My husband and I came for a birthday dinner. It was a pleasant experience overall. Food was kinda salty, otherwise we enjoyed it.
J&G recently re-opened following renovation by new owner Marriott. Still a beautiful venue with terrific views and service still outstanding. However, we were sorry to see that this lovely, high-end establishment is no longer using tablecloths but instead PAPER placemats - definitely not a good look. And while the menu is varied and offers options for all - only 1 of our party of 4 were truly satisfied with their meal - and all 3 ordered steak with a variety of problems with being overdone, bland and generally not what we were used to during prior visits pre-Marriott. The jidori chicken offering was delicious.
Fantastic steak and the sides were just as good. Service excellent and view is amazing.
One criticism, we were charged $8 for water when we just asked for still water at the table - when paying so much for the food this seems like a ridiculous money making ploy.
We really enjoy J&G Steakhouse. It has beautiful views of the Phoenician resort and has a nice bar area. The food is excellent. I would put the Dover Sole up with the best I have ever had! However at $66 for Dover Sole it better be outstanding. Here is our only complaint, this is a restaurant with 5 star food, 5 star atmosphere, and 5 star prices yet the table has tacky paper place mats, REALLY! I know it sounds petty but it is just so out of character for restaurant of this caliber. PLEASE get some real table clothes! Hard for me to take J&G seriously when the waiter is crumpling up paper place mats in front of me. Outside of that nit pick it is an excellent place to enjoy a nice meal.
My girl and I had an amazing time there. We’re definitely coming back!
Very lovely restaurant with good food and comfort Add in exceptional views and company and a great evening guaranteed!
Service was excellent. Steaks were delicious. Will be back again!
Ahhh-mazing! Food, wine, ambiance...plus the live guitar play..all on point! Will definitely be back again!
Service was excellent. Everything looked beautiful. Vegetables were overcooked. Meat was flavorful and cooked according to our order. Side sauces were all a little off flavor wise. To be fair, I prefer just salt, but our table ordered the side sauces so I tried them. Not bad, just that the spice combinations in the sauces were not well balanced. Everything seemed fresh to me, and looked very nice. Cocktails were well done.
Sadly, so very disappointing for a high end steakhouse serving prime cuts....1 one the steaks was overcooked, second was so tough, it was returned....lobster dish was presented nicely but, that is where it stopped as it had very little flavor and was about the size of a jumbo shrimp....of the 4 meals, 1 was good. Second bottle of wine we ordered was out of stock, should have been told the one we ordered was last one as we indicated we would probably order 2. Service was good enough but, could have been more coordinated. They started busing table when 2 of the 4 were still eating. Just too many little things made this a very weak dining experience....on the plus side, it was new, modern and nicely appointed with a great view....BUT, @ $60+ dollars for a prime steak, I expected better.
Perfection as always. Service, Cuisine, Hospitality. We miss it so much in D.C.
Outrageous price a basic martini,$22. 19ounce rib I steak wasn’t 19 ounces. Not really tender, over cooked. Dessert was poor. Coffee was not hot.
New Years Eve, live music, the place was hopping! We arrived in time for our reservation but needed to wait an additional 20 minutes until we got seated. Very nice table just next to the terrace with a great view over the city. Service was very friendly and attentive, food arrived hot and was nicely presented. They also offered a four course menu for the special occasion which looked excellent, however we went straight for the steaks which were prepared very well. The restaurant handed out some trinkets for the New Years Eve celebrations which was very nice. The other thing we noticed was that the underground parking has improved significantly versus prior visits, even on a night like this it was no problem to find a parking spot.
Great normal service. Let us keep to ourselves while only interjecting occasionally.
Jidori Chicken was spectacular. Great place for an adult evening out. View from balcony overlooking the pool a must see at night.
9pm reservation on 12/30- lovely setting
Service was great - knowledgeable, attentive and a bit reserved
Food was very good
Prices are a bit high
Did not adhere to a request for a birthday cake for my wife - but worse was that they did not care to inform me till the dessert was to be served after dinner
Food was good
Of all the steak restaurants in Phoenix to choose from, we chose this one to celebrate a very special evening with our family over Christmas. (Party of 6 - $550 bill). The evening was a complete disappointment, starting from when we sat down.
It took 30 minute for our cocktail order to be served. It was a very simple order - a bottle of wine, a bourbon and a coke. We had to ask for bread service (consisting on placing a cold roll on a plate) 3 times before we received bread.
The restaurant was only half full, but the service was horrible, especially considering the fact that this place holds itself out as a high end restaurant. Our bottle of wine was out of reach of the table and the waiter was very remiss on refilling our glasses. Our glasses were empty often thorough out the evening and due to the lack of good service, we had difficulty getting them refilled.
The food was overpriced and the portions were skimpy. The "Side dishes" (i.e. starches and vegetables that you typically see in a steak restaurant) were barely sufficient to serve one. We had ordered two for the table, thinking they would be adequate for the four who wanted sides, and each person ended up with a small spoonful of food.
The food quality was mediocre. Four persons in our party had the 8 oz filet and ordered it medium rare. Each steak was overcooked and bland in flavor. The other two in our party ordered the lamb chop special. It supposedly came with broccolini but I was unable to find any on my place. The sauce that covered the chops was overpowering and muted the taste of the chop.
Although it is minor, I thought that the paper place matts on the table looked cheap and reminded me of what you'd see in a coffee shop.
I did not complain to management at the time of the meal because I did not want to put a pall on the evening and make others in our group feel uncomfortable. However suffice it to say, I will never return to this restaurant again and will encourage others to avoid it.
Great but food/sides could have been better
While the service was very good and I have nothing but praise for the staff, the food was just adequate. Certainly not up to it's namesake. Clearly not the most expensive restaurant I have visited, it was one that lacked any sense of value making the prices seem exorbitant; particularly the bar. And the paper placemats that were wadded up and thrown away as we finished eating-------give me a break!
This was our 2nd time dining at J&G. We were here 2 years ago the same time and had a great experience our first time. This time, it was not so good. The food was very good, but not very special or on par with other steak houses in my opinion. We had the jumbo shrimp cocktail, truffled cheese fritters, and heirloom tomato salad which were all very good to start. I ordered a retro fashion which was made with Makers Mark and bitters, but the drink had way too much bite and was not prepared very well. More on this later.
We all had steaks and a few sides. The steaks were prepared well and cooked to the right temperature although they were warm, bland and lacked flavor. The sides were steamy hot and delicious, but they were served in these tiny little iron skillets that were way too small which made it difficult not to spill food all over the table. Unfortunately the service was lackluster. Our waitress was not engaged and lacking personality as if just going through the motions. We were never asked how our steaks were prepared and overall it just took away from our dining experience. So back to my drink. When I advised our server that I did not enjoy the drink and had it taken away, I was offered another drink, but I did not want anything else, and was never offered to take it off of the check. Just goes to show you the level of service that is just not up to par for the prices they charge you.
Oh well, next time we are in Scottsdale we will look elsewhere for a steakhouse.
Outstanding food, but we waited a really long time for everything. It seemed as though our waiter was slammed the whole night.
Every part of our evening there was excellent ng service, food view, ambience, everything!
We waited a long time for someone to even come to the table. My cocktail had the wrong liquor. The server totally forgot the first course we ordered to share. 3 of 5 steaks were lukewarm and over cooked. I live in NYC and I was extremely disappointed as Jean George’s New York restaurants are much more reliable. I could never recommend this one.
We had a great time. Always a wonderful experience and food is just amazing.
Everything was quite nice. It’s a fantastic hotel and restaurant.
I ordered Dover Sole and am suspicious that it was sole, not Dover sole which is lighter, thin and almost flaky. My sole was rubbery which tasted very good but I doubt was Dover sole.
The views are beautiful, and we were there on Christmas Eve, so maybe it is normally better. Food was just so-so, service was just so-so. Very doubtful we will ever return. There are so many excellent choices in Phoenix...why bother with this one.
Absolutely top notch service. Went for a birthday dinner. All of the host/ wait staff came by the table to wish a happy birthday to my daughter. The food was fantastic. Perfect portion size. I highly recommend!
Need better acoustics. The noise was way too loud for having an intimate conversations.
Our service was only second to the quality of our food. We enjoyed the entire experience. Kudos to the entire staff!
This was my 5th time dining and a consistent experience for the earlier visits though a bit disappointing in this case. Bread was stale, appetizers subpar, side dishes mediocre and steak Underwhelimg. Servers non enthusiastic and in one case a appetizer was thrown on the table. Had indicated that I was celebrating the birthday of my wife on the reservations which was not done and had to prompt this to the waiter as he handed out dessert menus for at least somewhat of a thrown together birthday dessert. $400 for a dinner for two should have had a bit more of a wow factor. Probably my last visit as better reviewed and comparable steak houses abound.
Very nice restaurant. A pity it was already too dark to see the city view from the elevation. Food was excellent and service prompt and courteous.
The view is what makes this place very special. My server was also on par.
Phenomenal food, did the tasting menu. I'm originally from Chicago and this food was right up there with the best I've had in Chicago.
Miserable attention by receptionist and Patrick. Excellent table service (Jeff) and spectacular food.
The food was ok. The evening started out ok but we quickly saw less and less of our waiter. I was also disappointed that after the waiter encouraged me to try the spicy purple sweet potatoes that he never came back and asked if i liked them or noticed that I didn't eat them and offered me something else instead. I was also very disappointed after I took my dessert to go and walked back to our casita to discover we were not given any silverware to eat our ice cream and cake with. We were really looking forward to this dinner but the reviews we had previously read actually turned out to be fairly accurate in that the dinner was overpriced for the quality of food.
Food was great but service was definitely sub par. Meal took over an hour to come out and when it did the waitress told us it was because the table across from ours took priority (?) not a great message to send.
Fantastic experience! We decided to get the very affordable tasting menu and it was definitely a great choice. The service is impeccable and they are very attentive and happy to answer questions or give recommendations. Thee food...I have no idea where to start...outrageous flavor and gourmet style presentation. I hate beets and the beet risotto was my favorite. We will definitely be coming back with friends and family.
Too noisy, but food was excellent
The food and service were outstanding. The room is beautiful. The loud so-called music ruined it for us. Will never go back on a Friday or Saturday when there is live music.
