J&G Steakhouse Scottsdale at The Phoenician Ratings and Reviews
Love the newly renovated bar area in the lobby that takes advantage of the beautiful views. It is elegant yet comfortable. The out door patio has all new furniture with several fire pits which feels nice on a cool evening. The J&G Steakhouse has awesome views with large windows which allows everyone to have a good view from their table. I celebrated a special birthday and they presented me with a birthday card and delicious dessert to help celebrate my special occasion. I ordered the filet, mushrooms and whipped potatoes which were all preserved perfectly. The new Parkerhouse hot buttery rolls are a new addition for enjoying with appetizers. Staff is so accommodating and friendly. This is definelt a place to go for special occasions or during the holiday season. Decorations are gorgeous.
Went for my girlfriends 50th. The poor service at the bar and at dinner overshadowed the food. I wouldn’t recommend for a special occasion. Maybe for a drink if you are staying at the hotel but I would not go out of your way to come here. For how expensive it is, the service did not match the price point.
Our medium well steak was medium rare. We sent it back and all they did was microwave it and it still was rare. You don’t charge that much for a steak and not know how to cook it! Then microwave it? And we had requested outside dining but someone that evening rented the whole patio, so that didn’t happen. Overall shouldn’t the manager have been on duty checking to see if there were any problems! Not a good experience!
J and G Steakhouse is a fine restaurant—gorgeous warm minimalist space overlooking the pool complex at the Phoenician. We arrived at largely deserted restaurant and were placed in a huge booth near the back, no view, and when we requested something closer to the windows or on the patio the hostess was rather put out (“well, I’ll have to see”)—but they made the accommodation to a lovely balcony table overlooking the grounds and pool. The restaurant never had more than five tables the rest of the evening. Service was quietly attentive and efficient but we were surprised that at a 5 star restaurant—with 5 star prices—they use paper placemats.
Our server David was business-like at first but warmed as we got to know him. Limited wines by the glass but high quality selections, same with Scotch—and alcohol throughout the resort is VERY overpriced. Foie gras was superb, as was each course of the 5 course tasting menu and wine flights. J and G is what it is--an ala carte steak restaurant--but well done and we would return.
Dinner was far less enjoyable than we hoped. The atmosphere was great and the servers were kind and professional, yet seemingly overworked and much less responsive than one would expect. The appetizer crab cake was excellent; the filet was dry and unseasoned; the Parmesan crusted chicken was tough and simply not good. When compared with other steakhouses in the Valley, it was very disappointing for us, despite being atop the beautiful Phoenician Resort (a favorite of ours.) Perhaps the Chef was away tonight—somehow, it missed the mark.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary. This was our first time at this restaurant- we were impressed. The food quality was exceptional. Our service was wonderful but a little slow with food delivery. The ambiance of peaceful except when the restaurant is fulll- it is noisy. We sat inside, I would recommend requesting outside, and had a wonderful view. Overall, we would head back for a meal. I would recommend this place to anyone, even a local. The food was wonderful and staff was friendly!
Ambiance, food, and waiter service were terrific. There was a problem with the hostess. We arrived at 7 for a 7:30 reservation and asked if they would reserve a nice table with a view while we enjoy cocktails in their bar until 7:30. The hostess said we can't do that. I asked why...we are here at the restaurant...she said it's just what we do. No smile, nothing. The restaurant was pretty much empty. So we sat in the bar area anyway...waited 25 minutes for our drinks...incredibly slow service...they said because some group just ordered 12 Moscow mules. I gave up and decided to have dinner. Very odd...their hostess seemed as though she had a sign on her forehead that read" "you're not welcome here."
We went here for an anniversary dinner. We sat on the outside terrace on a beautiful October evening. Beautiful view of the newly renovated pool area and surrounding mountains. After dinner walked around the grounds. It was a weekend so there was live music near the bar. Nice atmosphere, waiter was excellent and food was very good.
On Friday the 13th I took a friend for her birthday to one of my favorite restaurants, J&G. I have been dining there since they originally opened and also love many of Jean Georges restaurants in New York City. As usual, the reception desk personnel were extremely pleasant; the cocktails we ordered were also good.
From here on it was downhill. Our server was inattentive and indifferent and never checked on the food he served. We started with risotto that had the consistency of cream of wheat, lamb that was tasteless and not tender, and creamed spinach that was runny and tasted nothing like it should. Obvious no one in the kitchen cared about the preparation and no one was checking the appearance of the food. We received a birthday dessert, their chocolate cake, which also was not good.
It’s always disappointing to have a favorite spot go so far downhill, especially since the remodel of the Phoenician looks so beautiful. I hope someone pays attention and brings J&G back to what it was , particularly now so full of top steak houses.
It was a really good experience. Pretty much loved everthing about it, except that my medium cooked steak came out medium well. My wife got the same, but hers was perfectly cooked. Great place for date night. I reserved a table and we went there for our wedding anniversary, and on their own behalf set out a happy anniversary card as well as a free anniversary dessert . This was very cool and much appreciated. Staff was awesome and attentive, decor was very nice. Scenic view over the city lights was worth every penny!
Beautiful 1 year anniversary dinner, in which I had told the restaurant in advance it was a special occasion. The restaurant gave complimentary champagne and dessert for our anniversary. The staff was very accommodating and on point with service times and professionalism. Food was excellent, we both had the filets, cooked right and was like cutting butter, just excellent. Will be back when we visit Scottsdale again.
We have dined at many places in Phoenix and we have been to J & G twice - this time was really terrific. We sat outside on the patio. It was very romantic and I felt like I was on vacation. Our waiter, unfortunately I don't remember his name, but was really excellent . Our dishes came out and they were nicely prepared and flavorful. I had the salmon and I don't know how they prepared it exactly but it had a little bit of a kick to it and it was situated on a bed of spaghetti squash. Actually was really different and very delicious. We will definitely go back again soon especially with the weather being so lovely .
Our server Jeff was fantastic. He really made our experience special. His recommendations on food and wine were game changers. We have been to this restaurant a few times and this was one of the best. The only thing (and it's beyond the restaurant's control) was there was a lot of construction at the resort so sitting out on the balcony wasn't as nice as it was in the past with a view of construction and really bright lights for the workers. Other than that - amazing dinner and service.
The restaurant is a very nice ambiance... Somewhat noisy, and chilly inside. We moved to the outside patio/balcony, much quieter, temperature outside was perfect for this time of year... The over all dynamics outside were a bit muted due to the view of the pool and such were dark and still under construction. Service was punctual, nothing really personable, but good. Food was good (quality I would expect) but nothing to write about. Not really worthy of the bill of fare.
