J. Alexander's - Redlands Grill – Columbus Ratings and Reviews
This is our first visit to this restaurant in years, as we have moved from the area. We met family members here for a birthday celebration--and had a great time. The food everyone ordered was very good, the restaurant was lively and full, and the server (who was a young man) was awesome. He did a great job in taking care of a party of 8! Many times we have had young servers who lack the experience in taking care of a larger party, but this young man was great.
We generally love J. Alexander's but on this particular night, while we were celebrating Valentine's Day, our meal was simply mediocre. We had to send our dishes back for corrections several times. We aren't sure if the crowd was too much for them, or just what the issue was but there was definitely an issue that evening.
Food was delicious! My husband had a steak but I'm a vegetarian and we both had a good meal. Servings are huge so I brought home half of my meal for tonight's dinner. The only downside is the wait for the table. We had a reservation but still needed to wait 15 minutes to be seated. We were entertained by the kitchen staff as we waited.
We were seated at for our 7pm reservation at 740pm. The drinks from the bar were completely watered down. The suggested appetizer of steak rolls were not appealing, tasted like beefy mac and cheese in an eggroll. The best part of the meal was only the steak. Disappointingly, the dress code for the restaurant was mostly sweatshirts and jeans. We have previously loved the food and felt like it was a dressier restaurant, especially for the money. We do not plan to return.
Took my wife and 2 kids for dinner. My wife is a fan of their Prime Rib and it was perfect. My 13 yr. old got the Ribs with a Mac & Cheese and Fries and that was done really, really well. My 10 year old had some Pasta that I never tasted. My dish was the Pecan Crusted Trout and I cannot wait to get back there and have it again. The last time I went I got their Grilled Salmon that was outstanding but the Trout was even better!!! Had an excellent glass of Honig Sav. Blanc to pair.
I just cannot say how this place continues to impress.
Had a good time. Ambiance is better then the food, Service was better then the ambiance. So overall good experience. Would I recommend, probably not, CBus has too many other better options on my list. If someone told me they were going there, I wouldn't try and change their mind.
This was our second visit in the last two months and each has been very disappointing. On our visit in December my wife’s medium well prime rib was well done. This past Saturday the New York Strip I ordered medium was rare, but the bottom was burnt.Seems like they just send food out and hope for the best.I understand that it very busy but more attention should be paid to the quality not just quantity.
Went for my birthday for Prime Rib. It was very good. Would highly recomend the mac and cheese. One of the best I have had. My wife had the trout and it was very good as well. If you want bread before dinner you have to ask. My wife got an old fashion that did not have enough sweetness. My only other comment is that we felt it was a little dark in the dining area.
