J. Alexander's - Redlands Grill - Cincinnati Ratings and Reviews
We love eating at J Alexander's because the entire experience is one of quality without pretension. The seating is comfortable, the noise levels reasonable even when it's packed, the service is attentive without being overbearing, and the food is great. There are also plenty of wine choices to go along with the food. Our favorite appetizer, the fire roasted artichokes, which had been off the menu for many months, is now back, and just as good as ever. Two of us had fish dishes, which were cooked and flavored to perfection, while one of us had the filet mignon, which was tender and juicy. For dessert, the three of us shared one order of the carrot cake, which is to die for. We would come here just to order that. All in all, fantastic value!
We are frequent J. Alexander customers from this location, the Chicago, and Nashville areas. Usually, we never have a problem. So this time may have just been a fluke or a signal that things are heading south. First, our server must have forgotten about us. Even though she was very pleasant, we were left alone with dirty appetizer plates and non-delivered drinks for what seemed to be a long time considering we had not even ordered our entrees. The 3 out of the 4 entrees were good. The entree that failed was the slab of ribs to which I will blame the chef for. The quality failed to meet our expectations of what we have had at J.Alexanders. The lack of meat between the bones was surprising. I am not one to make a point in poor quality at dinner in front of our guests considering I was the one who recommended to dine here, so I kept it to myself and dealt with it. In such a competitive restaurant marketplace the chef should be more demanding in the quality he or she accepts to present in their restaurant. I am a diner that is not looking for a free meal or a free drink. I am a diner who can understand that sometimes things can go wrong and that is understandable. What I do expect is a commitment from the staff to make sure that each plate that goes out to the customer is a signature from the chef and the ownership. No excuse for forgotten tables.
Brought a friend here for dinner. The server was nice. Drinks came out in decent time. It’s never been this “off” before.
From the appetizer “Spinach Queso”, to the Jacks Tenders then including my potato as well as my Filet; it was all COLD!
An $80 meal and to leave disappointed wasn’t a good feeling. I didn’t want it remade or to have to wait on something else. We used to come weekly; but the staff turnover as well as inconsistencies in the meals drove us away.
After today’s mishap, I’m sure it will be even longer before we return.
This is one of our go to's when we have dinner, special occasion or otherwise. We most often use as a holiday go to, date night, or a casual dining place. Food is usually consistent but maybe that's because we tend to get the same thing. I have given many good reviews of the restaurant and would most likely give it a good review for this visit, Christmas Eve dinner. The only thing I might mention is that, being gluten free, they have usually been good about accommodating since much of their menu can be adapted easily. This time I ordered their grouper special which I have never done. I stated I was gluten free and could not eat cous cous. The server asked if I would prefer broccoli and I said yes. Imagine my surprise when the order came on a bed of cous cous with some white sauce that wasn't even listed on the special. The manager, who delivered the food, told me the sauce was not GF either. While I know mistakes can happen and I am willing to be forgiving here, I think the restaurant could have done a bit better job on the food description and also have the server being a bit more proactive when we state there is a gluten allergy....they can write it at the the top of our check in big block letters since our whole family, who was dining together, all are gluten free and stated that when we ordered. Give J Alexander's a try, it's usually very good. Just be sure if you have food allergies or must follow a restricted or special diet, you reiterate the specifics to avoid issue.
Waitress was very nice. Food service was way to fast. Did not get a chance to even start our drinks before the salad was delivered to the table and we were only half way through the salads when the entre's arrived. Felt like we were being rushed to get out the door!!
The food presentation was appealing. Our server was fun and interacted with my table.
It made the whole evening a pleasant and fun evening with great food and great ambiance! We have our favorites on the menu, but love all the choices given on the daily specials.
It is one of our favorite places to dine! Love J. Alexander's!!!
