J. Alexander's - Redlands Grill - Cincinnati Ratings and Reviews
The food looked good, but it didn't taste good. Even the burger wasn't good. Price was high for below average tasting food. Menu was interesting. I wish the food would have lived up to expectation. Also, it was very cold in the restaurant. Huge air vents blow cold air which makes it very uncomfortable.
We enjoyed our dinner. But, there was cool air blowing down from the ceiling most of the time we were at our table. This was distracting and uncomfortable to both of us the entire dinner. I wore my coat over my shoulders while trying to eat my food. The pumpkin pie was amazing !!
I love J Alexanders/Redlands Grill! We always have consistently good food and service. We ate there the other night, and I had the Shrimp Louie salad. It was delicious. It is easy to carry on conversations in the restaurant and the darkness lends to coziness.
Everything was generally good; the only exception was the chocolate cake which was inedible. Ordered 2 slices to take home for our grandchildren and us- they were cold and much too dense to eat. We had to toss them away after we tried them. This was the only low point.
We’ve ate here about 3-4 times and each time it declines. Ordered prime rib and it was cold and had hardly any flavor. My wife had steak and it was very fatty. Hate to say but the best part was the fries and Caesar salad. Don’t think we will be back unfortunately.
We have been to J. Alexander's several times over the years. This past year, every visit seems to get worse. We were seated on time but had to wait 10 minutes before a server showed up to our table. It took another 10 minutes for drinks. Our food showed up and my steak was over cooked but the broccoli was very good. My wife's pasta had way too much sauce on the pasta. The seafood was limited in quantity. My wife couldn't eat the pasta and left 95% on the table. I had to wait 10 minutes for the server to show to get me a refill on my drink. It was a bad experience and it's a shame because we use to really like dining at J. Alexander's Cincinnati.
Usually J.Al’s is a go-to for me for business lunches. Friday was awful. It took longer than 10 minutes to even get a drink order (we stopped counting), let alone to get a drink. We tried making eye contact with someone serving next to us, and he either “didn’t see us” or blatantly ignored us. That was until I said to my guest “Are we invisible?” Then he stopped over and sent someone over. I cannot speak for him but he seemed to be ignoring us several times throughout the experience. The service was slow. Everything we requested to be on the side came on the meal. Our refills were swapped, yet no one would visit us. Therefore, my Diet Coke craving was not satisfied with my regular Coke. I honestly am a great topper and left a bad tip for these reasons. I don’t even know who our server was. So many different people stopped or were flagged down by us. Therefore, I have no idea who to discuss the issue with as I don’t know with whom the fault lies. This was extremely disappointing form a recurring customer.
We usually have an AMAZING experience and so when we made a reservation for my husband’s birthday, I️ wasn’t worried. Then we were seated....we have two different servers come to take our order, we waited over 10 minutes for drinks because of broken glass in the ice container, the server continued to call a Manhattan a Martini (only because he order it up). I️ ordered the Prime Rib medium...usually its perfect. This was over done and dried out. I️ was pleasantly surprised that they were offered my husband a “birthday dessert” on the house, however it wasn’t something my husband would eat. When he mentioned that he couldn’t eat that specific dessert, the server just said “ok” and left the table...on other occasions, they have offered other options of that occurred. We hope this was just an off night and not a sign of further things to come.
Service and ambiance was outstanding as usual! Never had a food complaint until we ordered the pork chops. They were very, very bland and watery. Cooked to perfection, but zero flavor even with the apple glaze sauce they pour over it. This is the first time out of MANY visits that we were disappointed in our food. Its definitely not going to keep us from dinning there again, as everything is usually 100% on the mark!
We dine at J Alexander's frequently. The food is usually very good. I had a salmon sandwich and fries which were excellent. My wife had the Southern fried chicken salad which was not as good as O'Charley's. The service is usually outstanding but not this time. The waiter assistant, Sammy, was exceptional but our main waiter was rarely seen. It may have been because he had too many tables -- hard to tell. Bottom line, we would have been far better off with our waiter assistant!
We wish the old J Alexanders was still around! We have dined here many times and we immediately noticed a difference when we walked in the door. Our server was no where to be found. Someone else took our drink order and handed us off. We waited a very long time for our real server to arrive. My family had to slurp on their ice cubes for most of the meal, because the server never came around to refill our drinks. We had to ask for drinks after flagging her down. Silverware was not replaced after the appetizers and salads were cleared and since our server was no where to be found, I had to get up and get forks from the station. All of our dishes and glasses were slammed down on the table by everyone that delivered anything. We had to ask to have dishes cleared. Our server took great care of the table behind us, visiting them the entire meal, while completely ignoring us. Not sure if it was because we were the last booth in her area and in front of the server station. We actually had to flag down a different server to get our check since ours had finally disappeared into the abyss all together. We haven't had service this bad in a very long time from any restaurant. The food was mediocre at best. The Caesar salads were bland. The spinach/queso dip was the lone good item of the night. A single sickly looking croissant was placed on the table with the salads. We had no idea what it was for. ONE for 4 people? Besides that, it was terrible. Was it supposed to be sweet? Salty? Buttery? It was terrible and left untouched. I tried the chili and it tasted like a can. My son's Filet was butterflied, even though we expressly said not to and sure enough they over cooked it. My son's steak was the most fatty steak I have ever seen and it was very expensive. The baked potato was stupid big and the couscous was very bland. Just a bad night and we will not be back. Unfortunate. We used to love going there.
