J. Alexander's - Oak Brook Ratings and Reviews
Have been dining there for a long time but we will never go back. As soon as we walked in the hostesses were too busy to pick up an earring that someone lost that took them about 5 minutes to acknowledge us. Asked to sit in the bar and put us at a table until a booth would open up. Waitress came by and took are drink order and never came back. The bartender happened to walk by and saw that we were upset and was very nice to help us out. Hostesses forgot about getting us when the booth opened so my husband had to go tell them to give us a booth. Finally ordered the prime rib sandwich that is always delicious and got stale bread. The manager came to apologize and bought are drinks but overall we were so disappointed that we will never go back to that location.
We go here a couple times a year, usually after a play. Always a great experience. This time we got there early so ended up eating at the bar. Dave and Stephanie were fantastic. Only issue was they didn't have the ribs my wife wanted. This was due to the snow storm we had the day before so quite understandable. We will just go back again when they have them.
I do not recommend this restaurant if you have plans for the evening. Even though we had a reservation at 5:30, we waited over 20 minutes to be seated. No one apologized to us or the others waiting. Many restaurants would have offered a free dessert or drink for not being able to accommodate the reservation time.
J. Alexander's uses the team service approach, meaning that other restaurant staff help with drinks and bring food to the table. The problem with this approach is that it's often aggressive and timing of the food is poor. While we were still enjoying our appetizer and salad, our main entrees arrived at the table. In addition to not being ready to eat them, there really wasn't room on the table for the entrees.
For the price point of the restaurant, I simply expected a better service experience.
Highly disappointed. Have not been to J Alexanders since moving to Chicago from Toledo 8 years ago. The food was decent but the service was terrible. Had reservations for 5 at 8:45 and they gave our table to someone else. Instead they put us in a booth for 4 and brought a chair over that was in the walkway. The food took forever to arrive. We ordered the trio appetizer and they were out. They gave us the chips and spinach con queso and we asked for some chips and queso to go. They gave us some additional chips but spooned out the remaining queso from our bowl at the table and that was all - it was really about one spoonful if that. Would not go back for a long time if ever.
We had a great time with long time friends last weekend. The food was great, the service was wonderful. The only "complaint" which really isn't a complaint was i really love the creamed spinach and it wasn't on the menu that night. Highly recommended place.
Server was good. However, we had to chase him down for my husband to order a second beer. Also we’re never given enough ketchup. We’re given one little container to start. When more is requested, servers only bring one more. This is an every time situation. I don’t understand why ketchup is so rationed.
I have been a customer of J. Alexander’s since they opened in Oakbrook. I have recently been coming more than I usually do. A lot of that is due to other establishments kinda falling off my radar. Such as Redstone, the manager at Alexander’s is very attentive to any problem that may arise. Not always easy with joe public.
