J. Alexander's - Oak Brook Ratings and Reviews
My group of college friends has been coming to J. Alexander's for our yearly luncheon for over 20 years. We always have a great time. This year was no exception. The food was excellent. Our server was excellent--very attentive to our needs. We'll be back again. I highly recommend this restaurant.
J. Alexander's in Oak Brook has some of the most exceptional customer services skills I have ever experienced. We had made a reservation for 7pm and we were not seated until 7:30pm. The staff apologized profusely and made it up later with their amazing staff and service. And this was not the first time in which J. Alexander's had compensated us for an issue we encountered. You can really tell that J. Alexander's cares a lot about their customers and wants to ensure the best dining experience possible. Because of this, we will continue to come back and enjoy the always amazing food and dining experience. One of my favorite restaurants of all time!
Had reservation seated in bar after 20 minute wait. Not my choice for a quiet dinner. Order salad with no cucumbers. Salad came with cucumbers sent it back. Second salad had cucumber in it. Order baked potato no butter. Potato came with butter. Made for a very disappointing evening.
Waiter was not very good. Restaurant gave us wrong menu and had to order 2times. Fish dinner on 1st menu was $20 on the 2nd menu a fish dinner was over $30. Had a prime rib sandwich which tasted good but was expensive at $20 with fries. The amount of wine put in a wine glass is oh soooo small. Wine is not a good value.
The portions are plenty! So, go hungry or expect to leave with a doggie bag. The filet mignon was cooked just the way I like it. I was mildly disappointed with the lack of choices on the wine list, however. More “by the glass” options would be great!
Overall, thanks for a great evening and dinner!
Searched for reasonably priced, good ole American food after picking someone up from the airport. Found it at J. Alexander’s!!! Our party of four ordered a bottle of Zinfandel, Calamari, Alex’s Salad, Caesar Salad, Steak Maui, Filet Mignon with Bearnaise, Grilled Pork Tenderloin, Mr. Jack’s Crispy Chicken Platter, Chocolate Bundt Cake, and Carrot Cake, ...and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Everything was perfectly cooked from the accurately temperatured meats and tenderly fried calamari to the warm/moist carrot cake. The transition from appetizer to main meal to dessert was perfectly timed and all of our utensils were replaced at each stage. To top it off, our waitress was absolutely friendly and very attentive — even though she was handling multiple tables.
Used to dine here regularly years ago when I lived in Oak Brook. Brought a friend for dinner. Reservation was for 7:45. At 8:10 after most parties around us had been seated, I questioned the hostess. She clearly forgot about us...talked to another hostess and came back with "We will seat you right now" Server seemed annoyed, asked for drink order before we even got our coats off and looked at drink menu. Ordered a couple glasses of wine and steakburgers. Very disapointed in the quality of the burger...soggy bun, burger cut in half and bland. I asked for a slice of raw onion and he tossed the plate on the table and walked away before we could ask for any condiments. Very very disappointed and embarrassed .
This is second visit here after a play at Drury Lane Theater. Will our waiter did a very nice job. Prices are steep for what you get but my side of Mac & Cheese was probably the best I ever had. The sour dough bread is to die for. Wife and friend had the swordfish and pork tenderloin. Considering they only got green beans with the main course and no salad, kind of pricey. I had the ribs, coleslaw, and mac and cheese substituted for fries. They turned down the lights and it got a little dark so I put my coal miners hat lamp on.
Fire roasted artichokes were very delicious; I'll ask for melted butter in place of remoulade next time. The French Dip sandwich is the best around; Worth every penny. French fries were great. Chicken pasta soup- okay. Excellent service. Nice comfortable booth. Very enjoyable experience.
Had dinner & cocktails on New Year's Eve. Everything was great! Our waiter, Mike D, was the best. He went above & beyond. He wasn't hovering, but always there when we needed him. Ryan, the manager, went to every table to say hello to everyone, too. Nice touch. Great food/great service!
The food was delicious. I especially liked the atmosphere and round table for our big group. One person received something they didn't order and it was really good so they kept it. It was worth the drive 20 minutes away to get a delicious, cozy meal. The tuna and beef were superb. I would not recommend fish tacos. Romantic and warm for dinner.
One of my favorite restaurants. The food was great! Unfortunately, this trip, the service was bad. Our server (Shannon) was friendly and polite. When a diner asked for sparkling water, she offered Pellegrino, but didn't even check to see if they had just plain sparkling water at the bar. She didn't bring the lemon and lime asked for. She had to ask several times whether the dressing should be on the side. the food was warm and delicious. My finished drink glass sat for 3/4 of the dinner without being filled, despite Shannon walking past several times. Also, and I know it's a pet peeve, but she referred to individuals as Hon, very disrespectful to the people around her. I'll go back, but pray I don't get her as a server.
