J. Alexander's - Oak Brook
The food is consistently good at J. Alexander’s.
I absolutely love this place the only thing I dislike is, the one on North Ave. In Chicago they closed, so I have to drive to Oakbrook. The chocolate cake makes it worth the drive
Liked the service we got. Waitress was very friendly. Price is reasonable. I have no complaints at all.
They had no appetizers and it was very dark and noisy
I can’t say I would recommend it because we will not be going back. This was our 2nd time there. Both visits were Saturday nights and both servers were outstanding. My husband ordered the New York strip and I ordered the filet mignon. Both were cooked to our liking and came to our table quick. However, after our meal I asked to see a dessert menu and I was told the restaurant does not offer one. Huh?? My server told me what was available. I chose the key lime pie for my hubby and I to split. On my 2nd bite I noticed a gnat crawling around the whipped cream. My server was very apologetic as well as the manager. They did offer to supplement the pie and “can I do anything else”. I declined their offers and paid the check. Overall, I am highly disappointed because of my experience. I would think a “nicer” establishment would have protocols in places to avoid things like that. It makes me wonder how our steaks were stored and prepared, at $30 a plate I expect more. Get it together!!
Save room for the carrot cake-it is a must have! Make reservations as it gets crowded for late lunch/dinner. Highly recommend.
Chris with the curls was our server and he gave us a fantastic experience. He was so attentive and gave great recommendations. Will definitely be coming back :)
My husband and I decided to celebrate our anniversary at J Alexander. After taking my husband for his birthday and having a great experience we decided to return. This time, we were disappointed by the service. Our waitress was not attentive and not sociable at all, she did not introduce herself so we didn’t know her name. She seemed distracted and as if she didn’t know what was going on. She asked us if we needed anything else after finishing our meal, instead of asking if we would like any desert, which we did, we ordered the carrot cake, which is amazing the last time we tried it. She then comes back a few minutes later and asks if we want anything else, we said yes our carrot cake. She then brings us Pie. I reminded her we ordered carrot cake. Another young lady brings us our cake and comped it due to the confusion. We decided we wanted our desert to go due to the long wait for our carrot cake . Overall the food and drinks were great but service was below average. With that being said waitressing is not for everyone.
Always really good food. The Salmon and Orzo are my favorites. Martinis are perfect as well as the Seleucid wines. We’ve been going there for years.
When we entered and checked in, we were not asked if we wanted a table, or a booth. My friend has difficulty walking, andI’m 80 yrs old. To make matters worse, we were escorted through the entire restaurant, up stairs, and plopped into a very tight booth. The entire restaurant was empty! That said, didn’t they put a table of 4 directly across from us, who were quite noisy.
I had a burger, which was mediocre, and strange insipid cole slaw. One friend had a salad, which she said was okay. The third person had the special shrimp dish of the day. She ate every one, so I’m assuming they were good.
Great food. Their Tortilla soup does not disappoint. Carrot cake is to die for
Filet Oscar style was outstanding.... not a single morsel left on the plate
Always a good meal! Great server and French dip sandwich is my favorite!!
I had an enjoyable wedding anniversary dinner Monday. Our waitress was excellent & knowledgeable. I look forward to reserving my birthday day dinner this August 26. To explore more of the wine selection & amazing food.
I had an awesome experience as usual. the J. Alexander's in Oak Brook is never a disappointment.
It was a nice dinner and a great waiter Jay!
Our waiter was amazing the food was top notch.. my mother felt really special and enjoyed the atmosphere. Seated on time despite it being crowded. I will Recommend this place to everyone who asks for a place that has fantastic food. Great spot.
Overpriced and lousy service. There are much better options in the area.
Our server was ok. The manager came over to see how things were and asked if I'd like a refill on my drink and I said yes and told him what I was drinking and I never received it. The food was not worth the cost to me. I had a rib eye steak and it was a lower quality. Just not a good first impression
Mother’s Day there was not that great due to crowds and lack of seating options. We had reserved a table but were told we had to have a booth due to tables being full by reservation (which we had made). My elderly parents had a tough time getting into and out of booth and the place was jammed. Waiter was excellent and food was good just really overpriced for some items ($20 chicken finger had a bone chip in it, melted queso was $14!). Good food, just not good value on some items when comparing area options.
We had to a wait for an exceptionally long time for our entrees. We were finally told that our ticket had dropped to the floor. The manager was going to bring out our food. When the manager arrived he made no apology. In addition, I asked for the potato to have only butter and chives which were to be on the side. It was made with them on. He took the plate back and then we were missing the horseradish sauce we had asked for. I felt that the manager should have at least acknowledge the errors. Other restaurants would have offer some small coupon or the dessert as a way of saying we are sorry and this won't happen when you return. We have been customers since you opened and the service makes me hesitate on returning. Sincerely, Nanette Farina
I have been dining here since 1995, never disappointed. The quality of the food is incredible.
Like a Applebee’s but 4x the price! They couldn’t pay me to eat here again!
This was my first time here and I was very impressed. I am a good critic and loved every single item on my plate.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. Never a disappointment.
Very good food and atmosphere for brunch or lunch (haven't been for dinner yet - but plenty of great options). There is ample parking and because it's in a lot outside of the Oak Brook Mall - you don't have to compete with shoppers or use a valet. Our server was excellent - friendly and attentive without be overbearing - and had some great recommendations for our table and never made us feel rushed despite it being busy. French dip was from prime rib and one of the best I've ever had. And iced tea was refilled/replaced without us even needing to ask for it. Highly recommend.
Everything done right
It was superb! Frank, our waiter, was great and very welcoming. It was mother's day as well as my mom's birthday and he made it a great experience. The food is beyond delicious! Definitely coming back!
I was disappointed in my fish dish. The halibut was not prepared the best. The flavor was not the best I've had.
My family and I come here at least 3 times a year and it is always great. The food is amazing as well as the drinks. Even the service is usually top-notch, but sadly this time the service was not good. The server had zero personality, disappeared for long periods of time leaving our drinks empty for too long.
We will be back, but I hope we don't have that server again. He seems like he really hates his job.
We’ve been going to 5hus restaurant for over 15 years weekly and I must say the prices are pretty steep.
Service and food was excellent! We were there the day before Mother’s Day. Pretty crowded and the noise level was high. Otherwise it was an excellent experience.
Maybe, really too loud there and other people need to show respect to other customer's who are trying to have a nice quite dinner.
My family loves coming here after living in the area for many years and being introduced to this gem by a good friend. Took the wife and mother-in-law for Mothers Day and my mother-in-law was astonished on the quality of the food the service and overall experience. The place is set back and may never think about it, but one must try it out. Only complaint was it was a tad loud as we were seated near a large group comprising of 3 or 4 tables/booths who were out celebrating a graduation, so it was somewhat distracting.
As always they have the best food and service. Been going there for years and never had any negative issues. Blue cheese dressing is to die for!
Went for early Mother’s Day celebration. Food was great and service was amazing. The New York strip, the streak burger, and the Pecan trout were delicious. James was our server. He was friendly, always had a smile on his face, professional at his job, and never left us asking for anything. He was refilling our beverages before they ran out, and checked in on us at the perfect intervals. He wished me and my mom a Happy Mother’s Day at beginning and before we left. Very thoughtful and another reason for us to come back again!
The food was very good, everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Deserts could have been better, but I did like what I tasted. The service was very good. And the ambiance was also very good. We were seated right on time when we arrived, and I liked the table that they selected for us. My sister who joined us has eaten here before and would also recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The five of us went for lunch. For entrees, we had the tuna, trout, and French dip. The fries were so good. They were thin and delivered hot to the table. The portions were large and we took leftovers home. Our server, Sara, was excellent and an asset to the restaurant. Definitely going back.
An excellent experience all around. Ebony is to be commended and idealized as a server. She was exceptional. Food was great quality with value.
Outstanding white bean soup! Very nice of kitchen to split a prim rib order between 2 of our group!
Bring back Banana Cream Pie!!!
