Izumi Ratings and Reviews
What we did receive was delicious but unfortunately we did not receive our entire meal because the kitchen misplaced our order and then closed without ever preparing it. So we only received our appetizer and that was a little disappointing. However our sever was apologetic and brought us a dessert. We will try again and hopefully will be able to have a full experience.
Great staff they are very friendly, amazing food! Brought my boyfriend and he loved it! Not on time with the reservation, but they opened our bottle of wine while we waited (which was super nice because my man was getting hangry!) Would come again for sure!
The wife and i ate here on a Friday night recently. We started with the edamame and some individual sushi and sashimi. Our main course was the chef's selection for the Sushi and Sashimi plate. We couldn't recommend it enough - it was Fantastic! Can't wait to have it again. There were no throw-in pieces of sushi that you wouldn't like. Couple different types of tuna, mackerel, salmon - they were all great!
I LOVE this restaurant. The food is so fresh and delicious and my family really loved coming here when they were in town last weekend. It did get a little hot in the restaurant though...the A/C may have been down (or maybe there is no A/C) but otherwise I cannot complain! Amazing sashimi and entrees!
They did a great job explaining the specials on the menu. We had two gluten free people in our party and our really friendly waiter did an excellent job making sure that we knew everything they could eat and what they could accommodate. They do have gluten-free soy sauce there so no need to bring your own. Cute location in a nice downtown square in South Philadelphia. Prices were reasonable and, couple that with BY0B, and you'll have a nice reasonable restaurant for a Japanese feast!
Fish was incredibly fresh and flavorful - loved the sashimi sampler appetizer. I was also able to experience Uni here, not that I haven't had the opportunity before, but it was recommended by some friends to specifically try it here.
Uni was interesting, you could tell it was very fresh and it was a pleasant experience overall.
I had a friend in town and was in a good meal at Izumi. We had 2 rolls and some soup. Half way through I noticed a black, and we have brown hair. They took it and said they would fix it. We had to leave. They took one roll off the bill and gave us the same sushi rolls to go, hopefuls hair free. I've always had a great experience there. But this left a bad impression and will cause me to think twice before going again.
Went to Izumi for a casual Sunday evening dinner. The food was good, average sushi with a few specialty rolls. Two outstanding items were the seaweed salad (real seaweed), and the Pork Belly served over Congee.
It's a BYO so you can enjoy your own wine/beer/sake selection, and the price was average for the area and food. The service was good, and Sunday evening is a slow-er night making it easy to get a table (only seats about 35 people).
There was moderately loud music playing, although we could have conversation while eating. I would go back again if in the area and in the mood for Japanese food.
If you like Sushi ..This place is one of the best in the city. Along with small plates and a few large plates to choose from..I highly recommend the short rib if your hungry...Two appetizers that are a must are the seared scallop crepe. And the pork belly..The only down side is that the seating is limited and they may sit you at the sushi bar.
We went to Isumi for Restaurant Week and were very impressed. The restaurant itself is very attractive and the service was excellent. Although they were not very busy while we were there, there were a number of servers that could deal with a larger crowd.
The courses were varied, beautifully presented and not rushed. The fish tasted very fresh and the accompaniments were just right.
We're planning to return many times.
