I will state that I have been to Izaname twice before and have had an amazing experience. Great food and ambiance- which is why my husband and I were so excited to go back. This time... I made a reservation on Open Table for an outdoor table.. had to wait 3 weeks to get that table.. and when we got there... they sat us inside at a table next to the emergency exit- saying there was no room outside. I fail to understand the logic... I believe you make reservations to avoid this scenario... nobody called us to inform us- on top of that.... the hostess was very sick. Considering the sensitive situation that we find ourselves in with the pandemic- it feels like the worst idea to have your first impression of the restaurant be with a person who is too ill to be working their shift. We ended up leaving.. because we were totally annoyed. There was no attempt made to make amends- just an: "I'm sorry." Very unprofessional in my experience. I hate to leave bad reviews.. but this was too much for me to let pass by.
We were very disappointed...
Awesome! Great Restaurant
This is a beautiful restaurant in an attractive setting,,,Ask for a view over the valley,,,The food is Japanese pub food much like you get in Kyoto. The sake list is very good. The wine and beer selection was good.I thought the waitstaff excellent,Luke was a charming waiter. This was a good value dinner.....and a nice break from Southwest chili....
Everything was terrific. Food, weather, ambiance, design, etc. etc. Only hiccup was that server forgot that we were celebrating a birthday after having promised a birthday dessert. We were able to get the dessert after asking but it was a little awkward. But except for that, the wait person was great.
Having a meal at Izanami is like taking a mini-vacation. Amazing food made from fresh local ingredients, warm and gracious service and a beautiful location - one of my favorite restaurants.
Loved the food, ambiance
And great waiter! He knew all about Sake!
Enjoyed it, menu options were creative.
Amazing time at Izanami. Would recommend to anyone. We will definitely be back. The sea bass was amazing along with everything else. The WAGYU on the hot stone 100%.
This is one of the top five restaurants in New Mexico. Our eating experience was outstanding. It was like taking a trip to Japan.
Amazing as always!
Always a pleasure to eat there - A5 beef is so special.
Great staff too.
Food was incredible. Server had a bad attitude and actually tried to start an argument which bewildered us. We asked for advice several times but she only gave us sake advice.
Have eaten at Izanami many times and have always enjoyed it. The food is always delicious and the setting is lovely. The sake is wonderful and the sashimi is delicious. Staff is excellent and very knowledgeable. About our favorite place for dining out.
Amazing food, a beautiful experience!
Had the meat bento and (of course) a side of the shishimi fries! My lunch guests had the sashimi - the freshest fish in New Mexico!
I will be back!!!
This was beautiful, even magical Japanese-style place up in the hills above Santa Fe, a perfect place for a special Anniversary meal. Gorgeous flowers and lit-up (at night) hillside pine trees with steps and old-style Japanese architecture on separate buildings for spa, rooms, and restaurant. Casual yet elegant and fun designs in the restaurant, with really nice attentive service staff. There's a big range of small plates, from perfectly made gyoza, a mushroom and bean sprout stir fry dish, 2 pea and shisho croquettes, a daily special of sashimi, to a crazy good and crazy-pricey Japanese A5 Wagyu slices you cook on a burning hot stone ($48!). We did spring for the $99 Nebraskan Wagyu tomahawk steak to share...which was very large and perfectly done, with 2 dipping sauces and slices of chilled wasabi butter--magically delicious and would say it was worth it! Finished with a lovely cake slice with macadamia nut ice cream. Just WOW. One day I'd like to try out their traditional onsen spa rooms with beautiful gardens too. I would recommend this place, but peek at the menu online for the costs!
Delicious but not precious or aggressive. Generous portions.
It was an amazing experience. The over all mood was great. It kind of reminded me of when I went to Japan with the amount of care they put into it! Great food
My husband and I had such a great time here. We can't remember the last time we had a meal so good. And it reminded us of some great experiences we had at a few Japanese restaurants in NYC when we first met. Truly unique and amazing in its own right and we will definitely come back!
Went with dear friends from out of town. Food great. Service great. We were inside the restaurant which has amazing ambiance. You feel like you’re in Japan. Quiet. Almost empty inside or a 1:30 lunch reservation. We weren’t rushed at all. One of our favorite places to dine.
Staff was amazing and everyone felt like an old friend. Knowledgeable about everything on their menu and made me feel very welcome!
Can’t wait to go back!
Food was beyond fantastic, the pace of the meal was relaxed and really allowed us to enjoy each dish, and the sake tasting flight was a lovely option. We'll definitely be back.
It was a birthday celebration. The food was amazing especially the Colorado Lamb chops & Wagyu beef (Miyazaki A5–Japan) Ishiyaki
The best dining experience in Santa Fe! Incredible food, gorgeous space, and wonderful staff. Thank you, Izanami!
Great food and ambiance. Cool vibe. Very authentic Japanese but your server can help navigate. And less expensive than expected.
I came to this res
Fantastic food presented elegantly, and waiter staff was exceptional.
Excellent food & service & beautiful views. What more could you ask for.
I usually give 5 starts to Izanami and never disappointed but last night the food was not up to par! The pork ribs had too much spicy chili rub and too fatty. The Waygu steak did not live up to the past quality and very chewy...not worth the cost! We waited a half hour to get seated and a half hour to get served because they were short a waiter. I hope this was just an off night all around!!
Pablo was wonderful - the restaurant was quite busy and we took that into consideration. As usual, the food was so good. We love this restaurant and are very glad they kept the outdoor pavilion! We didn't get to sit there last night, but will get back there soon. Support your local restaurants - we're so happy to be able to visit them again without COVID restrictions.
Amazing food, hostess and server on the snooty side.
Great location with spectacular views. The service and food were impeccable!
To call this place pedestrian would be a compliment. Japanese? We couldn’t find out the cut of beef -
and they graded wagyu (which is nothing more than a cross with Angus) as though it were Kobe A-5. We asked if they had maduro and our waitress said what’s that? Hello. They had no sushi. We were rushed. We will never go back. If you’re going to eat in Santa Fe go to Geronimo or the compound. If you love fine dining you will avoid this place like the plague.
This place is such an oasis. It manages to have a relaxed and calming atmosphere despite how busy it always is. And the sea bass was divine.
This was a huge disappointment. The rice was overcooked to a point where it was almost porridge. The fried chicken tasted a bit like liver and the fries were limp. The sashimi was fresh and excellent but overall it was a meal that left us sad.
Wonderful food and service. Our wait staff was excellent. After a week in Santa Fe and all of the wonderful Southwestern restaurants there, Izanami presented a welcome change and a wonderful experience.
Amazing - we loved everything about this experience
Dining at Izanami is always a treat for the soul, spirit and senses. Thank you for a delightful meal to celebrate our anniversary.
Great lunch after soaking. Will come again next time we are in SF. Thank you.
Mary Beth has a fabulous server. It was our first time. It won’t be our last. Good was wonderful. Beautiful venue. Lovely evening. We are be locals. It is our new favorite restaurant.
