Iconic restaurant at a world class spa. Had a truly brilliant experience.
Beautiful setting above Santa Fe. Food delicious and staff efficient and helpful
We love it!
They consider themselves to be a Japanese restaurant and yet serve mayo dipping sauce for french fries.
The food is well made and flavorful but it has a long way to go before I would call it Japanese. (And I've been to Japan twice and eaten at the best Japanese restaurants here in the USA). An absolutely terrible host, spaced out, and just not PRESENT--who really should be let go since he represents the front of the house and is the first employee that prospective diners encounter--and a surly waitress who said the reason for her attitude was she'd been working two shifts. Tough. I blame the management, who clearly couldn't care less, or else thinks their view of what is Japanese is correct. I should add that my dining companion had the same perception. Having said all that, dinner for two was very reasonable, compared to other high end restaurants in town, and you DO get the setting...
We are a Japanese inspired restaurant and Chef tries to use as many Japanese items as he can to create his dishes. When I watched the video it seemed as though you were acknowledged immediate so I am not sure why you felt the host was not PRESENT. Some of our staff members do work doubles based on their availability and this should not have been stated at your table so I will address the server.
Wonderful experience all around. We’ve become regulars!
Jacque- We will strive to make all of your future visits even better than the last.
We went to Izanami for my birthday and it was the perfect end to a great day. Had never been there before, so we took a few minutes to carefully decide the courses we would try. Each one was prepared exquisitely, and we felt that we hit just the right balance in our choices. The waitperson was very knowledgeable and guided us through possibilities for both our food and drink. The capper was that I got a wonderful dessert for my birthday! We sat in the newer addition and had an amazing view of the wooded hillsides around us. I would heartily recommend Izanami to anyone looking for a fantastic meal that is far from the ordinary.
Amelia- It is our goal for all of our guests to have a memorable experience like yours. I will pass on this compliment to both the front of house staff and back of house staff.
We had an incredible experience from beginning to end. Mateo, our server (I think I have his name correct) was wonderful, warm, friendly, knowledgeable and great! He make our evening all the better. Hope to return on our next trip to Santa Fe. Thank you!
Thank you for the compliment on Mateo's service. I will let him know how he positively impacted your dining experience and we hope you return soon.
We enjoyed a lovely meal for my friend's birthday. Thank you!
Thank you Susan. We are thrilled that our guests like to spend their special occasions at Izanami!
We went again it was so good! Such delicious flavors!
Carlos- We truly appreciate our repeat customers and look forward to your next visit.
One of the most exceptional dining experiences anywhere, highly recommended. Weather permitting get a porch table for two, and spend the night in their inn so you can have as much sake as you want.
Rufus- Thank you for the recommendation. The patio view is exceptional and I am happy to see you enjoyed lodging with us as well. Hope to see you at the Ten Thousand Waves in the near future.
AMAZING food and service. Must go see the spa on your way in or out of the restaurant. Very unique and special place!
Thank you for the great compliment on the food, service and spa!
Patient & helpful waiter, very original & tasty food, busy atmosphere...
Thank you Lucas - we hope to see you again soon!
The food was fresh and flavorful and the wait staff were very attentive. We had a wonderful experience for our anniversary.
It is a pleasure to have you join us on your special occasion and we look forward to your next visit.
This is myself and family’s favorite restaurant to enter a different world of food and ambiance. Sitting up amongst the trees, with beautiful woodwork and water features. The staff is fantastic- so attentive and kind. The food is sensational and something unique pops up on the menu all the time. Highly recommend!!
Mabel- It is an honor to be you favorite restaurant and we truly appreciate your patronage. I will share your positive review with the team.
Overall food was very good, but overpriced for what you get. The Japanese manager (I’m assuming he was manager) was super accommodating, showing us menu, asking how we were, giving us information etc. but our waiter was uninvolved and “bored”.
Mike- We are glad that you enjoyed your food. It sounds like Kaz was assisting your table and I will pass on your compliment to him. I apologize the server was not as involved as you would have liked and I will speak to him about doing better in the future.
Wonderful food view and service! A must if you come to Santa Fe or if you live here already.
Leslie- Our goal is for all of our guests to have this kind of experience. Thank you for your positive feedback and I will share this with the team.
Nice meal, but very overpriced. Four pieces of sashimi tuna for $17? Come on! Three small cups of cold sake for $22? Not like you are paying for a view or Japanese seating. I would not recommend it!
Bruce- I apologize that you did not see the value for the sashimi and sake. Chef does his best to source local organic products and many specialty items that are from Japan. Our flight s range from $15 to $22 so we can offer a wide arrangement of sake. I will share this with the team as we try to constantly improve.
Food is always great and we always enjoy the beauty of the mountains there. Highly recommend.
Kim- We appreciate your recommendation and look forward to your return.
Overall the food was excellent and the ambience very serene. I was a little put off by being told we would have to be done eating and out of the table in an hour after having made a reservation. Plus we were on the balcony so waiters were not plentiful. If you needed something you had to wait till one came out. That being said overall it was a wonderful experience, since it's Japanese in ambience it had a lovely landscaped path up the side of the mountain with lanterns and places to stop and rest (My husband took the scenic route). But for people like myself (handicapped) who could not do the climb they provide a shuttle. Once at the door it is very handicapped accessible. Loved the waterfall while waiting. Food was an experience, a good one. They have an extensive sake menu and were very good about explaining some of the traditions associated with the dish. Please note while they serve sashimi it's not a sushi restaurant more of a traditional Asian meets modern fusion. As U said I thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
Lynette- Thank you for the compliment on the food and ambiance. I apologize if we had a time restriction for your reservation as try and do our best to accommodate all of our guests requests. We hope to see you back in the near future to enjoy the food and sake.
Delicious food, great service and fantastic atmosphere.
Thank you Tbui!
Food was good but overpriced for what you received.
Steven- We appreciate that you enjoyed your meal with us. Chef uses as many local organic products as he can along with many items that can only get from Japan. My hope is that you see the value in this and I will pass this information on to Chef.
Our favorite go to restaurant in Santa Fe. Because it’s open all day into night, we come here often. In the afternoon the ramen is amazing, and the bento box is a great value. At dinner we usually get two tapas sized dishes. With dessert, it’s enough. I’ve had everything on the menu and it’s all good, but the pork ribs and Namo burger stand out. The salads are creative, the desserts are sublime, and the saké list is excellent.
Thank you for your compliments. It is our goal to have all of our guests feel this way about Izanami and we look forward to your next visit.
Izanami is our favorite place for a special dinner or to take friends!
Thank you for the great compliment! It is our goal for all of our guests to feel this way.
My favorite restaurant in town, always the go to for celebrations, or quiet lunches with my mother, special get togethers for one on one talking, or my boys favorite family dinner treat. It's delicious and so reasonable for the special food served.
Thank you for your compliment ans it is a pleasure to have our guests spend their celebrations with us.
High prices, mediocre food. The one thing I can recommend is the great sake
Thank you for the compliment on the sake. Chef is doing his best o serve our guests fresh, local, organic products and it does increase our food costs. Sorry that you did not see the value and I will pass on this information.
Izanami is magical. We were only there for lunch...next time we will partake of the spa. But somehow, lunch seemed like a carefully curated visit to a very special place. The whole experience was peaceful, delicious and unforgettable. We are grateful for friends who suggested Izanami to us.
Barry- Please send a thanks to your friends for recommending us. It is highly encouraged for our guests to enjoy the spa and Izanami. We also have lodging to top it off if you have an evening to stay with us. Kanpai!
Absolutely amazing! Japanese craft beer, sakes, and food to die for!
Service and food was wonderful!!
Izanami is a beautiful and delicious way to eat..The view from the exterior booth was breathtaking. The food flavors and presentations were a feast for the mouth and eyes!
The best local place for a fantastic meal and experience - feels like you are in the mountains of Japan!
Loved it! Food was amazing- love this place! We were celebrating 40 years of marriage and it was a great way to remember this special day.
We love the ambience and the food. I can’t wait to go back.
I've been here so many times and love every experience. The side room overlooking the mountains is quieter and has great views. If you have gluten allergies, ask the server for a breakdown of items with gluten free options or that are gluten free already. The menu is not well marked, but the staff is educated, which helps. I'm celiac and have not gotten sick dining here.
Dining at Izanami is a real treat. Beautiful ambiance, helpful and professional service and the food is outstanding. Can’t wait to go back again.
Amazing culinary experience. The tasting menu was incredible.
Entitled servers ! They really make it difficult instead of letting you enjoy the full experience of being in Japan
Great experience. Authentic food and gorgeous setting. Lot's of fun and great service.
The food used to be much better. There's really nothing that stands out - its all pretty meh. The fish was sold out. There are weird combinations of things on the menu and the flavors just do not impress.
