It is a place where people can linger with good friends, good food, and drinks in the heart of San Francisco.

*Happy Hour, Tues-Thur from 5:30 to 6:30PM*

If you would like to reserve a Tatami Room, please be advised, each room requires a $250 minimum with 3 hours use of the space. The largest room, seating up to 8 is a $350 minimum.

Parties of 6 and more, please contact the restaurant directly between the hours of 4pm-10pm.

Service was quick and efficient. It wasn’t warm and friendly but that’s fine with me. Food came out quickly. Grilled steak and scallops were awesome! Udon has a good rich broth. The sushi rolls unfortunately were only average. I will visit again and just skip the sushi.

Have been here a few times now and the food and service is consistent. We went on Christmas, however, so a lot of the options we were looking for were already out of stock (e.g. yellowtail collar, Asahi beer - the later of which feels like it should be a staple there). The service was a little slow and not super attentive, but still friendly. The food is good, but I think the cooked food is sometimes better than their raw sushi options. Overall would this place haa good, tasty food, but not my favorite in SF for a pure sushi experience.

Initially we were sat next to a disturbingly bright LED window display. We asked them to turn it off and they wouldn't. They did finally offer to move us to another table. Food was good but a bad start to the meal.

It must be mentioned that portion sizes are European. The food is outstanding. We had the Chilean Sea Bass from the Grille and sautee menu. It is served on a smattering of dry miso and yuzu sauce. The bass is grilled to perfection, with a lovely flaky texture and topped with fried slivered garlic and leek.

We also had the Uni Onsen Tamago from the small dishmenu. This is a very lightly boiled egg, where even the white is in a very liquid state and has only just turned white. The whole yolk is pretty much uncooked. It is served over uni (sea urchin) flavoured with ponzu sauce. The whole dish is served sprinkled with some condiments. My companion, who is wary of unknown foods, absolutely loved it. I don't know if she knows she ate sea urchin; I didn't tell her.

We also had Buta Bara from the Kushi Yaki menu. This was two grilled pork belly skewers. This didn't disappoint either. It wasn't grilled to a crisp and so was soft and juicy with some kind of a sauce (not sure what it was).

my favorite place in SF. they serve traditional Japanese food french touched. it is very good place to hang out with friends to drink /or date with someone. i highly recommend their new menu Uni cream pasta. very rich but flavored with uni and well balanced. yes i will visit this place defiantly.

Great food. Service OK. A guy doing bookkeeping at the bar next to us during prime dinner time. One of the reasons I like Kou is that the food reminds me of the places I used to frequent in Tokyo. But the service and ambiance are just a little off. I still recommend it. I just think it would be fantastic if they upped their game just a bit.

I liked the food. I have gone there many times during the week and it is not as crowded. The server forgot one of my orders. My favorite is the salmon sashimi. I will go back just during the week. Food is to good not too.

The food is overall good and the seafood the restaurant serves are fresh. However, services were not that great. Brought us our dishes and drinks, and clear off our table at the end. These services don't render a imposed 20% tips and that is on top of the tax paid. So we ended up paying 21.7% tips toward our orders. We have a party of 6 and we did not read anywhere that tells us beforehand about this mandated charges. We all felt being robbed and not sure will come back if the management does not correct this issue. We were even told by others that this is not a legal practice by the restaurant.

It was okay. Nothing super special but the service was attentive and they have a bell for you to ring when you want anything. They came right away with no waiting.

There was a fire down the street that knocked out power so we weren’t able to order more than our first order but they handled it well.

Food was good, just nothing out of the ordinary. I thought they were still a yakitori place but I guess they changed their menu.

It was a unique experience in that they called to confirm the reservation and canceled it. So I had to rebook it.

Awesome - we sat at the sushi bar - asked to be moved down the bar so we could watch the prep
Great service - Nick our sushi chef has great skills and artistic ability and we left it up to him as to our what we would eat - ankimo was so amazing - plates of beautiful succulent fish followed - each mouthful better than the last - great sake & beer - we dined like royalty and feel very grateful to all involved
