About Izakaya Den

Izakaya Den is Denver’s popular Japanese gastropub, modeled after the lively after hours establishments found throughout Japan. The restaurant is located on South Pearl Street and is the second restaurant of the Kizaki brothers, founders and owners of Sushi Den.

The menu is arranged in a tapas style, serving traditional Japanese small plates along with dishes infused with international flavors and textures. The more traditional Japanese offerings include sashimi and nigiri, sourced from daily fish shipments from around the globe, along with dumplings and noodle dishes. The global cuisine experiments with a bevy of different flavors including unique items such as Grilled Panzanella Salad (jumbo lump crab, toasted focaccia, local goat cheese, pistachios, plum wine vinaigrette), Kobe Beef Sliders (seared foie gras, pomme frittes). A gluten-free menu is also available along with a popular weekday happy hour from 5 to 6:30 pm.

Excellent food, as usual, but not the best service. While our server was very good - when we saw him! - he was the lone server for a large section of the restaurant and was just stretched too thin. This resulted in a long delay to get his attention to rectify an error, and long waits between ordering various courses. This is the THIRD time recently that we have experienced the same issue with there being too few servers! This spoils the whole flow of the dining experience and evening out. Management needs to employ more servers if standards are to be maintained.

Izakaya was great again. Best sushi in town, service very attentive, the interior design of this place is impressive. If you haven't been, make yourself a reservation for tonight.

This is probably the fourth or fifth time I have been to Izakaya Den and have loved it every time. The sushi rolls are very good but I highly recommend ordering a variety of small plates. The miso black cod is particularly delicious. It is really fun to get a small group together (4-6 people) and order a bunch of the unique items from the small plates menu. Can't say enough good stuff about this place.

Authentic Japanese sushi restaurant with remarkable variety of fish prepared by master sushi chef. Great attention to detail, wonderful flavor. Clearly superior to most sushi restaurants in the area. We will be back!

Let me start by saying we had a great time in Denver, ate at some great places, but
really cannot believe that this is what Denver considers a top place to eat sushi.

Horrible service-15 min before our server acknowledged us, never checked on us at any point of our meal, and served a sake drink meant to be presented to my husband while he was in bathroom. Server told me "well, since he's not here, tell him to health, wealth, and prosperity."

Never once did he check after any of our dishes were served to see how we were doing. Had to flag him down once our sushi was served after waiting 10 min to ask if soy sauce on table was low sodium or not.

We are not snobby nit-picky type people. We are the fun table that orders everything, so if you can't get into serving us, there's no way others are getting treated any better.

Sushi itself was just okay. There was nothing that stood out or seemed worthy of the reputation.

We have been to a lot of the top sushi spots all over the country. This place was a disappointment considering the positive reviews, our server, and meal quality itself.

We have celebrated many special occasions at Izakaya. The service was off and the sushi was fine but nothing great this time. No hot towels (had to ask then we got 2 sets of cold towels) , service felt rushed and it was very loud. First time we have had less than a great experience.

A coworker recommended my husband and I celebrate our anniversary at izakaya and we were not disappointed. Service, atmosphere and of course food were all amazing. I only wish we could have eaten more. We will definitely be back to try more from the menu.

The food was amazing, but our waiter ruined the whole night for us. Just because we were probably the youngest people there (18 years old) doesn't mean you can forget about us and treat us with disrespect. Also the restaurant should state in bold print that they do not split checks because that would have been very nice to know before hand. We ended up having to do the math and write down each total for our waiter...really ruined an important night.

Way better than sushi den. None of the pretentious bs that is so prevalent there. Even the hostesses are arrogant. Menu is more creative at izakaya den. Interior design upstairs is awesome, way cool bat upstairs and much better counter service both upstairs and down. Promise you, no need to do sushi den anymore, same owners same great fish much better concept and service

The hostess forgot to find us for our table, but she was amicable.

The server didn't apparently know two of the four people in our part had birthdays even though I had specified it in the reservation. No ice cream was served and we didn't really want to have to ask for it again.

The server had too many tables to be especially amicable to any one table (apparently).

The sushi was excellent though the visual appeal of some of the rolls could have been better considering the price. The nigiri was spot on (just colder than room temp like we like). The lobster wantons were over done (chewy meat). The calamari/shishitos were not fried in hot enough oil, so they ended up soggy. The casserole-style seafood dish was nostalgic for me as I have been to Japan many times and appreciate their fusion of cheese and seafood; you pulled it off very well. The kobi beef stuffed roll was excellent.

Food and service were excellent; however, would not recommend for a date, business meal or quiet night out (unless you can secure a quiet table in the distant back room) because the front of the restaurant and bar area is an extremely noisy environment: concrete floors and walls and an open industrial ceiling.
