About Izakaya Den

Izakaya Den is Denver’s popular Japanese gastropub, modeled after the lively after hours establishments found throughout Japan. The restaurant is located on South Pearl Street and is the second restaurant of the Kizaki brothers, founders and owners of Sushi Den.

The menu is arranged in a tapas style, serving traditional Japanese small plates along with dishes infused with international flavors and textures. The more traditional Japanese offerings include sashimi and nigiri, sourced from daily fish shipments from around the globe, along with dumplings and noodle dishes. The global cuisine experiments with a bevy of different flavors including unique items such as Grilled Panzanella Salad (jumbo lump crab, toasted focaccia, local goat cheese, pistachios, plum wine vinaigrette), Kobe Beef Sliders (seared foie gras, pomme frittes). A gluten-free menu is also available along with a popular weekday happy hour from 5 to 6:30 pm.

This is our second visit to Izakaya Den and it has not disappointed us yet. We enjoy the feel of the surroundings and the restaurant is beautiful. The food is excellent and the wait staff is on point! Thanks

We have dined here a dozen times. I usually always order a salad or fish collar for an appetizer or dinner. Tonight I orders both a said and fish collar, and my salad came out 20 miniutes after all the other guests at our table, and the main meal - the collar - came our another 25 miniutes after the guests received thier entrees. The waiter neither took responsibility or offers an apology for it being so late. We were going to the Lady gaga event and arrived at the restaurant very early at 6pm for an event that was starting at 8:30pm. I got my food about 10 miniutes before we had to leave for the show and it took over an hour to get my meal. The five other guests at our table did not have any delays. I was very disappointed being a repeat customer

As always the food was delicious. The service was not. Starting with the host who forgot he sets the tone for the evening. But then the waiter just seemed to be overwhelmed by (I believe) the 2 tables he had (which were the last 2 tables still eating at 10:30 (we sat at 7:50)). The food came out when it was supposed to but we could never get everything we needed, when we needed it. For example, fresh plates were requested after a squid ink plate. The sushi platter arrived shortly after they took away the dishes but we had to wait for -about 15 minutes for fresh plates, another 5 for chopsticks (and by this time, the dining room had emptied out). Drinks were hard to come by. Didn’t expect that kind of service from this used-to-be exquisite dining experience. And shouldn’t really have had to!

I think its one of the best and most elegant restaurants in Denver. Only critique: too much Kim chi in the squid ink risotto.

We enjoyed an excellent dining experience at Izakaya` for a Family Birthday Celebration with 6 of us seated upstairs among the finest ambiance which likened to a garden setting among the tall foliage trees that lent itself well to quiet conversation among our group. We began with the small plate menu and a number of dishes to share as appetizers. We especially liked the Mico Black Cod , Salmon Sashimi with truffle oil, the Nigeria and Kobi Stuffed Roll were great, and the Lobster Ramen Bowl with the Kinpira Salad for a main course was awesome. The service was excellent with our fully informed Waiter, who was attentive to every detail, articulate and very polite in every respect. The wine, beer and mixed drinks were great. We truly enjoyed a 5-Star Dining experience that ranks among the finest in Denver and we will be back soon.

We’ve always liked the ambiance of Izakaya Den but hadn’t been a while so went for a family birthday. I feel like much hasn’t changed from their menu-wish they would switch it up once in a while. Lots of tables nearby with people talking loudly. Our waitress was very very nice but at one point early on disappeared for a while and we were wanting our drinks we had ordered and to order appetizers. Kind of a bummer.

Abysmal service at 5:30pm on a Friday night. Food is average but pricey for what you get. Not recommended.

I had been wanting to try Izakaya Den for a long time because we love Sushi Den. We rarely venture out of our our Highlands/Lohi/Downtown area for meals out, so I was excited we actually made it here the weekend after Thanksgiving. We ordered ramen, gyoza, nigiri, and some sushi rolls. Everything was good, particularly the nigiri, until our two rolls that cost almost $40 arrived. Our server recommended them and they were not at all what we expected - messy and flavors that did not make sense. To make matters worse, I swallowed a bone in one of the pieces of salmon. The server brought the manager over who offered to speak to me again if I required medical attention. I obviously didn't think that was necessary, but wanted to let someone know. Overall, we spent $120 on lunch and they could not even take one $18 roll off our order that could have caused harm. I may go back to Sushi Den in time, but not Izakaya based on service. We'll stick to Sushi Sasa and our other sushi restaurants for now on.

I absolutely enjoyed myself at Izakaya Den. The atmosphere was sophisticated yet trendy and casual at the same time. Our service was excellent, and the food even better. I asked a friend from Denver, "what's the best sushi in town?" and their response was "hands down - Izakaya Den." And they weren't wrong!

Excellent food, as usual, but not the best service. While our server was very good - when we saw him! - he was the lone server for a large section of the restaurant and was just stretched too thin. This resulted in a long delay to get his attention to rectify an error, and long waits between ordering various courses. This is the THIRD time recently that we have experienced the same issue with there being too few servers! This spoils the whole flow of the dining experience and evening out. Management needs to employ more servers if standards are to be maintained.

This is probably the fourth or fifth time I have been to Izakaya Den and have loved it every time. The sushi rolls are very good but I highly recommend ordering a variety of small plates. The miso black cod is particularly delicious. It is really fun to get a small group together (4-6 people) and order a bunch of the unique items from the small plates menu. Can't say enough good stuff about this place.

Let me start by saying we had a great time in Denver, ate at some great places, but
really cannot believe that this is what Denver considers a top place to eat sushi.

Horrible service-15 min before our server acknowledged us, never checked on us at any point of our meal, and served a sake drink meant to be presented to my husband while he was in bathroom. Server told me "well, since he's not here, tell him to health, wealth, and prosperity."

Never once did he check after any of our dishes were served to see how we were doing. Had to flag him down once our sushi was served after waiting 10 min to ask if soy sauce on table was low sodium or not.

We are not snobby nit-picky type people. We are the fun table that orders everything, so if you can't get into serving us, there's no way others are getting treated any better.

Sushi itself was just okay. There was nothing that stood out or seemed worthy of the reputation.

We have been to a lot of the top sushi spots all over the country. This place was a disappointment considering the positive reviews, our server, and meal quality itself.

We have celebrated many special occasions at Izakaya. The service was off and the sushi was fine but nothing great this time. No hot towels (had to ask then we got 2 sets of cold towels) , service felt rushed and it was very loud. First time we have had less than a great experience.
