Ivory on Sunset Ratings and Reviews
Overall lovely, staff and setting were perfect. The only issue was it was extremely hot and the plastic canopy covering the outdoor area was trapping the heat in even more. Like extremely hot. Would love to go back if plastic was removed! Great place and staff was extremely nice!
What a terrible experience. My friends and I were expecting a lovely New Years Eve dinner in great surroundings and we were bitterly disappointed indeed.
The service was absolutely laughable- of the 4 courses they placed every single plate incorrectly. The main course of butter poached lobster with truffle was nothing short of disgusting. The lobster was rubbery, and it was served with bitter greens so you could taste no lobster or truffle. It was sitting in a pool of brown water from the greens and in a soggy and grainy polenta cake that also managed to be dry.
One waitress tried and was pleasant but there was no professionalism at all - the staff were clearly not trained. All the other wait staff were rude, bored and made us feel unwelcome.
I was still eating my appetiser when the entree was brought out. They seemed incredulous I would even question them. There was no space between courses, no bread and there was a DJ station set up with awful music that was not mentioned anywhere in the advertising or emails. We were charged 20% for service - again this was not communicated upfront.
After complaining, the manager came over to talk to us but he was also lacking basic training and skills. He believed that he could sweet talk his way out of the situation and seemed shocked to hear his service staff were sub standard. This clearly showed he was not a skilled restaurant manager.
In the end, he offered my meal free even though my whole table experienced the same issues. I shared the reduced cost with my friends and the total was just shy of $700 with 1 meal free - there was a service fee of $125 and tax if $50. We had 1 bottle of wine between 4 of us and water. I have been to Michelin starred restaurants and paid less.
To say that this was an absolute rip off is an understatement. We were so displeased that we left before midnight and went back to our hotel when we had planned to go to the sky bar after to celebrate. We couldn’t leave quick enough.
Menu selections were exciting and tasted equally as amazing! We went for Christmas dinner and absolutely loved every dish we tried. The steaks were perfectly aged and the chicken and scallops juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The outside area was tented but kept perfectly comfortable and warm. Can't wait to go back
I expected sooo much better. Famous chef in charge, Mondrian Hotel, recommended view.
What we got: Run of mill nothing special here brunch. First off: seating cushions were stained and filthy looking. Floors black in many spots and Poorly cleaned and cared for.
Should have been enough of a reason to leave, but we were meeting friend there.
Three adults. With out drinks or tip $95. $130 with all. Plus $12 parking fee!!For very average/low quality brunch.
We had: French toast : 4 half slices of French toast with two teaspoons of cut strawberries. ( why not use better bread?) fake syrup. Not enough butter and is it real butter? I don't think so. My husband was starving after. And we had side of bacon too. (3 slices) And it was deep fried to crisp it. Not freshly made at all. Cost $8 or so extra. Ugh!
My omelet with a table spoon or so of slimy spinach and mushrooms and a dab of cheese like slop( could you perhaps used fresher and more plentiful fillings?) Served with straight from the supermarket plastic bag toast. Sad.
And crab cake Benedict. Also nothing so special. Crab cake could have been a bit crisper. The potatoes on the side? Squares of pre cooked and left to dry out on grill dark brown cubes.
Yes it is in hotel. I'm aware prices are higher because of The view?? View: Eh.
But would it have killed the chef in charge of menu to offer something... anything to justify the $40 plus per person ( including tip and coffee) check. Denny's does it better!!! Could they offer a Better house baked bread basket? Real maple syrup?Larger portion of fruit? Fresher better quality everything? Even the jam for toast was watery! How does that happen?
Sad sad sad.
Wait staff was good, not their fault chef is using Bare minimum of everything and it shows.
Save yourself a trip. Go elsewhere to get an easily better brunch/lunch.
This is literally the first review I think I've EVER written. This restaurant is so beyond gorgeous. The food and wine was all perfect & delicious, but the ambiance is UNREAL. I've lived in LA my whole life and gone to Skybar a million times but for some reason never eaten here and I'm SO glad I did. Beyond perfect for a date night. Incredible views, with plants & lights everywhere. My new favorite restaurant FOR SURE. Expensive but not crazy at all. Cheese board was 2 die 4. Brussel sprouts, ahi tartare, and mashed potatoes were amazing.
Even though Ivory on Sunset is inside the Mondrain Hotel, it doesn't seem like a hotel restaurant which for me typically isn't special. Ivory on Sunset is special! The food is delicious, service fantastic and the view of LA is stunning. I highly recommend eating at Ivory on Sunset - a very special place.
Thumping Euro/Disco music at outdoor tables creates boring and unappetizing ambiance. Lots of hip and contemporary music could be played and more conducive to digestion.
Indoor tables with nice view by window. Unfortunately incredibly loud bachelorette party adjacent to us — actually two different ones side by side — made our experience uncomfortable.
Highlight was our waiter Derek: knowledgeable about wine and the menu, terrific suggestions, very professional. He deserves a better restaurant!
Came for the views and will return for the service and food.
What a great experience, food was delicious and service was friendly and attentive.
What a beautiful restaurant with great outdoor dining and wonderful views.
Ivory truly has it all and worth a visit.
Not only is it a beautiful space with lovely scenery, but the staff there was so friendly! I've never had a hostess be so sweet and accommodating. The food and drinks were great, a little pricey but not nearly as overpriced as similar places. I would definitely go back.
I came here for my birthday lunch with some friends and had made the request to be seated next to the windows outdoor and they said they would be able to accommodate. When I arrived, they informed us they cannot sit my party near the windows outside but they can inside. When we were seated at the table next to the window, it was so hot I was sweating and uncomfortable. We asked if they can turn the air higher but they said the hotel controls it and there was nothing they would do.
We ended up having to move to a different table in the middle of the restaurant indoor and it still was somewhat hot, as the doors were kept open.
The service was horrible. We had to request things more than once and it seemed as though our waiter was nowhere to be found ever. When we would ask other waiters for something, instead of serving us, they would say hold on and would try to grab our waiter, and so we would have to wait even longer.
The food was decent. However, the selection was very little.
Would possibly come back for dinner when its not scorching hot. However, will not come back for lunch or brunch.
We didn't realize that the restaurant was in a hotel with a Vegas style pool party. We could hear the techno rocking outside but because the restaurants stereo was connected they could not onay any music. The decor was very trendy and great. The food was good but extremely over priced. All and all I would not go back. Glad I went once but won't go back again.
What an amazing restaurant, beautiful outdoor area.
Food was good but service was exceptional. Staff was friendly and attentive. Not your normal WEHO attitude.
Manager was great came by to make sure we were we were enjoying ourselves and to wish my guest a happy birthday. Nice touch!
Will be back again soon.
I absolutely loved the decor and the flatware/plates. The bacon is absolutely on point! The service wasn't the best and I didn't realize that Skybar club was just outside, so the bar was backed up. I chose this as my bridal shower venue, so I wouldn't recommend it while the club outside is going on. Otherwise, I had a great time with friends, and overall had a very special day!
