If this is not a Seattle classic already it should be. Great views, excellent food, and superb ambiance.
I was very disappointed.
I ordered the taste of the northwest.
the dinners arrived warm like they had been sitting for 5 minutes. my wifes meal was also not hot; all the parts of the dinner, the seafood, potatoes and veggies.
my Halibut was bland, no seasoning or taste at all. the worst Halibut I have ever had.
my Salmon was bland, no seasoning or taste at all. one of the worst Salmon I have ever had.
the Scallops were OK but not very large.
it was my special birthday dinner and all I got for it was a candle.
we spent $140 and I did not enjoy my birthday dinner at all.
We only ever go to Ivars when my elderly midwestern in-laws are visiting because it feels like a “fancy” meal and very seattle and the view is incredible. The food is incredibly overpriced and frequently overcooked. That was the case at this last visit. The halibut was so dry and over cooked it wasn’t worth eating, and the mashed potatoes were salted beyond belief. Salmon was dry as well, but eatable. They brought out the wrong dish for my mil, barely apologized, then brought the right dish out after 20 minutes when the rest of us were nearly done eating. Then it took them forever to bring the check, and then the check had the meal that they mistakenly served my mil, plus her real meal. It took like ten minutes to flag the server down, he was like oh, oops, and then he brought it back. They charged us fully for the late meal, but at least took off the one that we never ordered. Through it all it was so loud my parents in law couldn’t hear a word my kids said. I’m going to convince my in laws to try somewhere else next time they visit, as truly the only enjoyable part of Ivars is the view.
Love Ivar's Salmon House, it never disappoints! My daughter turned 21 and it was the first place I thought of for a family dinner--the surf and turf was devoured!
View was spectacular. Food was ok. My salmon was not cooked all the way and had a few bones.
Celebrating Ivar Haglund’s Birthday has been a northwest family tradition of ours for years and last night’s meal was exactly what we have come to expect from the occasion. Wonderful meal and fantastic service! We love that we can always count on the Salmon House to be a place we can come and remember how Seattle used to be. Born and raised here, visiting any of Ivar’s restaurants was always a treat! Thank you, Ivar’s! ❤️
Another 4 fabulous salmon meals enjoyed by our table at Ivars Salmon House. Alder grilled salmon cooked to perfection as always. The spinach side is delicious. Desserts were excellent
Granted it was Ivars Birthday, but the service was sub par. They seemed to be well staffed, so that wasn't the problem. Waitress had an attitude and we had to repeatedly ask for things. Even though the price was right that night, I don't think it was worth it. The food was good, but the poor service ruined the evening. Would not recommend.
I was to meet my husband there for a date night. He forgot and was over an hour late! The waiter was marvelous and made me feel comfortable during the long wait.
We had a window table, which was lovely, but all the tables are good, due to the warm and cozy interior design. The whole restaurant is based off of a long house design with heavy timbers and whole logs for support. Much of the artwork is inspired by PNW Native art.
The food was fabulous as always, The sever and support staff were spot on.
We both had the seafood with grilled cornbread pudding and it was divine!
Ivar's is perenially great - this visit was no exception. Love the smell of wood smoke, the view, all-around great waitstaff, and, oh yes, the food is lovely. Go early so you can snag a window table, the views are sublime.
Being a Seattle-born resident, this restaurant has been a "go-to" location for those of us who grew up here for special occasions or just fabulous fresh seafood. The Northwest Native motif adds charm and character. Sitting inside or out, you have a view of boats and seaplanes on Lake Union as well as kayakers. You can get here by car, bicycle or boat tied up to the dock. Fresh salmon, clams, mussels are favorites as well as fabulous salads and specialties. There is not a better place to take a visitor to Seattle than to any of the Ivar's restaurants, particularly on the Seattle waterfront (original location) or the Salmon House on Lake Union. If only I could give it six stars!
Ivar's Salmon House offers a unique Pacific Northwest dining experience with traditional foods prepared and presented at the peak of perfection. While contemporary, the restaurant's design and decor convey the feeling of being enveloped in a traditional Northwest Native Long House. Just enter, explore, relax, and enjoy the experience.
Service was good, prices were a bit higher than many other places in the area that have equally great food. Very nice atmosphere
We brought our friends who were visiting from Asia, and they thoroughly enjoyed getting a “taste of Seattle” by ordering grilled salmon. We sat at the corner table by the window, so we had a beautiful waterfront view and watched the boats pass by during dinner. All the dishes from the salad to the entrees were very beautifully plated and the fish was cooked to perfection. We’ll definitely come back again!
Bisque, fried oysters, coconut shrimp, pana cotta were all good. Clam chowder not the best we have had in Seattle.
Noon Sunday reservation, it was busy but not full. Our waiter was good but had too many tables to keep things going smoothly. Never a giant delay but slow overall. The chowder and fish and chips were very good as always. Great view of lake Union. I'll be back.
Excellent salmon with a great view.
Went there for a Birthday Celebration with my buddies. Outstanding food and the view was exceptional. Server was very welcoming as well. I give it a solid A.
View was great, noise level made conversation difficult, server was obviously very busy and distracted, forgot our drink order, food was great.
Had a great lunch. Food and service were very efficient.
Great! I always come here with my S.O. for valentine's and our anniversary
We came in a group for my mother in law's birthday. This is her favorite spot when we come to Seattle. Ken our server was wonderful and made her feel special. She loves the fish and chips and it did not disappoint. Atmosphere was great and view was nice.
The ambiance and food is what bring us back, especially to show visitors. It is a little disappointing that their "no tips" policy has quietly been removed and the prices did not go down. It seems disingenuous to me and that is why I do not rate them outstanding. We always leave a tip to good waiters/waitresses anyway.
Lovely view and delicious salmon platter
Went for a special occasion and were very pleased with our waiter who was friendly and helpful. The food was good for the price. The hostess, however, was rather curt, and the table and menus were a bit dirty.
We had a birthday party here. The food was great waitstaff were also friendly. Love being able to order a smaller size dessert. Food was very good
Been going to Ivar's various restaurants for decades. I love the salmon house for it's woodsy beauty and stunning views of the growing Seattle skyline. Hubby and I made a last minute decision on going out (birthday) and after a somewhat difficult time using Google maps, we were able to figure out where it was (thanks to a kind gentleman on the phone).
After a cup of the hot, creamy delicious clam chowder and a very nice fillet of Coho, I felt we were in the Emerald City. I love Seattle, and Ivar's is one of the iconic eating establishments of this great city.
Anthony gave us very good service. Happy Birthday Ivar (March!)!
Dinner was a little over priced.
Server was to attentive. I felt his goal was to turn the table not take care of our needs.
Nice beautiful restaurant. The prices are outrageously high. I won’t be going back. If you dine here, bring a credit card and know you are in for sticker shock.
Good food, nicely spiced. I had the seafood medley, my only criticism—WAY too much salt!
The staff was very respectful of our 54th Anniversary on Valentine's Day. They seated us at Ivar's favorite table (Ivar being the founder of Ivar's restaurant. They were attentive and treated us to a special dessert. Very thoughtful!
Salmon House is always our goto dining whenever there is a special occasion. Food is great and the service is perfect. Thanks again..Ivars!!
Server was attentive, food was good, view was fantastic.
Oldsters appreciate a delicious solid lunch and a quiet atmosphere to chat in. We sat indoors at a window table by the water - delightful. Service was attentive and never intrusive. Nobody hassled us or hurried us; we had a good get-together with an out-of-town friend. To be repeated!
You feel like you are in an Native American lodge with an outstanding view of the Seattle skyline. The service is outstanding with the server being very attentive and friendly. The food was cool and was not seasoned well. We ordered the Pan Fried Oysters, the oysters needed salt and were cold, The mashed potatoes had a strange tangy taste to them, but the vegetables were really well seasoned. The meal size was a little small for the price. I would not recommend this place for a first date, or meeting because it is very loud and hard to hear.
A Seattle landmark... Ivar's has the best tasting Fish & Chips in town, bar none. At the Salmon House my dinner group thought the crab/shrimp cocktail @ $15 was terrific and a Great deal. We would order it again.
Suggestions to consider...
We had 2, bottles of 14 Hands chardonnay. Too pricy @ $34 / bottle for what this wine sells for retail. The pink shrimp & mushroom sauté entree was 'colorful.' "Color" is a big asset in food 'presentation.' Two in our party ordered the "Taste of the Northwest." A lack of 'color' was my first impression. Simply adding a sprig of parsley, some red paprika, etc., would really improve the visual presentation at no additional cost. I'd like to see the potatoes presented in a form other than looking like they came out of an oval, mold... a sprig of colorful parsley & 'yellow' lemon slices vs. the broiled (?) half lemon of a brown color would make the visual much better. Similar suggestions for the seafoods on the plate (present them 'prettier'). Again the crab & shrimp cocktail looked great! Price was great! That dish looked like it was prepared by a very different chef... follow that persons lead!
The Japanese have learned how to present food in ways that make it compelling... low cost ways that are pretty and sometimes a work of art. I'm not suggestion you go that far but I'm sure some 'presentation improvements' on the couple of entrees mentioned here would make your guests dining experience better.
I love seafood presentation which is a hobby of mine. My family was the partner of Jack Alger when they opened the Alki SPUD. I have photos you may not have. Does the name Richard (Dick) Seargeant mean anything?
I love your Fish & Chips!
There were reports last year Ivar’s increased food price to remove tip charges. We still had tips on our bill last night. Have they stopped the pilot?
Excellent wild caught salmon with a great view of the lake
For YEARS, I have Always went by this place. From sea level & street level & from High Above. Literally!
I've meant to GET there some Day.
Finally Did for my birthday!
Thanks it made my Day.
Whenever I visit Seattle, my sister makes sure to plan at least one stop at Ivar's. I was able to request a 10-person reservation on the same day, with some last-minute additions/changes that the staff handled gracefully. Several friends on their first visit were very impressed. I'd love to explore the menu, but the "Taste of the Northwest" always grabs my focus!
