Been going to Ivar's various restaurants for decades. I love the salmon house for it's woodsy beauty and stunning views of the growing Seattle skyline. Hubby and I made a last minute decision on going out (birthday) and after a somewhat difficult time using Google maps, we were able to figure out where it was (thanks to a kind gentleman on the phone).
After a cup of the hot, creamy delicious clam chowder and a very nice fillet of Coho, I felt we were in the Emerald City. I love Seattle, and Ivar's is one of the iconic eating establishments of this great city.
Anthony gave us very good service. Happy Birthday Ivar (March!)!
Dinner was a little over priced.
Server was to attentive. I felt his goal was to turn the table not take care of our needs.
Nice beautiful restaurant. The prices are outrageously high. I won’t be going back. If you dine here, bring a credit card and know you are in for sticker shock.

The staff was very respectful of our 54th Anniversary on Valentine's Day. They seated us at Ivar's favorite table (Ivar being the founder of Ivar's restaurant. They were attentive and treated us to a special dessert. Very thoughtful!

Oldsters appreciate a delicious solid lunch and a quiet atmosphere to chat in. We sat indoors at a window table by the water - delightful. Service was attentive and never intrusive. Nobody hassled us or hurried us; we had a good get-together with an out-of-town friend. To be repeated!
You feel like you are in an Native American lodge with an outstanding view of the Seattle skyline. The service is outstanding with the server being very attentive and friendly. The food was cool and was not seasoned well. We ordered the Pan Fried Oysters, the oysters needed salt and were cold, The mashed potatoes had a strange tangy taste to them, but the vegetables were really well seasoned. The meal size was a little small for the price. I would not recommend this place for a first date, or meeting because it is very loud and hard to hear.
A Seattle landmark... Ivar's has the best tasting Fish & Chips in town, bar none. At the Salmon House my dinner group thought the crab/shrimp cocktail @ $15 was terrific and a Great deal. We would order it again.
Suggestions to consider...
We had 2, bottles of 14 Hands chardonnay. Too pricy @ $34 / bottle for what this wine sells for retail. The pink shrimp & mushroom sauté entree was 'colorful.' "Color" is a big asset in food 'presentation.' Two in our party ordered the "Taste of the Northwest." A lack of 'color' was my first impression. Simply adding a sprig of parsley, some red paprika, etc., would really improve the visual presentation at no additional cost. I'd like to see the potatoes presented in a form other than looking like they came out of an oval, mold... a sprig of colorful parsley & 'yellow' lemon slices vs. the broiled (?) half lemon of a brown color would make the visual much better. Similar suggestions for the seafoods on the plate (present them 'prettier'). Again the crab & shrimp cocktail looked great! Price was great! That dish looked like it was prepared by a very different chef... follow that persons lead!
The Japanese have learned how to present food in ways that make it compelling... low cost ways that are pretty and sometimes a work of art. I'm not suggestion you go that far but I'm sure some 'presentation improvements' on the couple of entrees mentioned here would make your guests dining experience better.
I love seafood presentation which is a hobby of mine. My family was the partner of Jack Alger when they opened the Alki SPUD. I have photos you may not have. Does the name Richard (Dick) Seargeant mean anything?

There were reports last year Ivar’s increased food price to remove tip charges. We still had tips on our bill last night. Have they stopped the pilot?

Whenever I visit Seattle, my sister makes sure to plan at least one stop at Ivar's. I was able to request a 10-person reservation on the same day, with some last-minute additions/changes that the staff handled gracefully. Several friends on their first visit were very impressed. I'd love to explore the menu, but the "Taste of the Northwest" always grabs my focus!
We've been to Ivar's Salmon House many times over the years and loved it, but last weekend's visit was a disappointment. My house salad was a pile of limp greens soaked in dressing, I couldn't eat it. My guest's Coho salmon was drowning in sauce and so sweet that she ate about half of it. I recommend getting all dressing/sauces on the side. We had a lovely window table but the noise volume on a Saturday night made it difficult to talk without yelling.

We went because they were having a Mardi Gras special menu and we ordered off that menu. Special NOLA drink was great, but a little price at $13. Food was not spicy so that was good for me, but if you like it spicy you would be disappointed. Fun menu though and lots of choices. Service was excellent.
Very helpful staff that was able to accommodate a large group. We always enjoy bringing friends and family from out of town to this unique and quality dining experience.
I've been to the restaurant many times and have always enjoyed the food. Monday night the food was so bad everyone in my party commented on it. Very bland and tasteless. We will not be returning.
