Ivar's Salmon House Ratings and Reviews
I’ve been to this place multiple times in the past couple years, but this time I was severely let down on the food. My moms dish was just really salty, and my steak was ok. I remember it being really good here. Also, I know they did the whole “tipless” phase and just raised the prices, but it looks like they went back to the tipping model and didn’t bring their prices back down. Overall, I don’t think I’ll come back here again sadly.
My parents were visiting from out of state and this was just the place to bring them for fresh seafood, famous clam chowder, and a unique regional ambiance/decor. We had a terrific meal and excellent service with nice views of the waterfront and Seattle skyline.
It was New Year’s Eve. I had reservations for two weeks. The day before the restaurant called for confirmation and I was informed that our reservations were at 6:00 and we had until 8:00 to eat because of a “special event”. In fact they served us so fast we were ready to leave by 7:10. It was not a quiet, relaxing dinner.
The view of Lake Union and Seattle is wonderful, even at night. The restaurant is very noisy making conversation a challenge. The food was good, oysters were perfectly cooked and calamari was tender. Cocktails are a bit pricey. Service was attentive. We ordered Crab and Shrimp Louis but they were out of the ingredients at 6PM so we were offered the menu again. I would like to go back for salads another time.
Ivar's indoor restaurants have always been special places to me. The Ivar's Salmon House, once again, was not a disappointment. Sockeye selection and Seafood medley... (bowlful of multiple seafood -- prawns, mussels, salmon, etc. in broth) was delicious, as well as the sides included with the meals for each of the 3 of us. The waiter was very attentive, friendly, informative --great! We even had a huge surprise at the end of our dinner when a Manager came by to give us a gift of $50 off of our total!! That topped it off, when we already enjoy Salmon House. Since our dinner was a special occasion ... Christmas Eve, as well as honoring a loved one who died too soon and fairly recently, it became a very special occasion indeed.
The only piece I would ask for is that they return to a better selection in their bread baskets. There were cornbread muffins, but the sliced bread wasn't real special, nor was it served warm. I believe this is new since the last time we were there.
Very disappointing to go to Ivar's after all these years and find that its been turned into mediocre, high turn over-volume place to drop tourists, and at expensive pricing. Smelled faintly of nursing home-institution, even through the wonderful alderwood smoke aroma. Was embarrassed to take visitors there.
Ordered the Salmon Sampler, but it was very over-cooked to the point that it was dry and hard. Also, the salmon fillet all the way on the right side of the plate had a very peculiar taste (similar to how catfish tastes like "dirt"). It pains me to say this, but I've had much better salmon at the UW Medical Center cafeteria.
The mashed potatoes also had a very hard consistency, instead of being smooth and creamy. They were like this for the entire table. Although I really like how the vegetables were perfect with just the right seasoning.
The dining experience and ambiance were great. However, my disappointment lies in the fact that I was entertaining guests from out of town who wanted to try some of Seattle's best salmon, which on this night the restaurant did not deliver. To make matters worse, my guests ended up paying for the whole dinner in gratitude to me showing them around town, but the exorbitant bill definitely does not justify the quality of food we received.
I've had better experiences at this restaurant before, but not on that night.
Festive during the holidays with a view of Lake Union and the Space Needle. The chowder was good, I think the food suffered from general holiday overcrowding and the kitchen being busy.
Definitely a great happy hour that is relaxed and has a good variety of appetizers.
We had a lovely lunch to pre celebrate the holidays with my elderly mother in law. The staff was very patient with our slow progress due to her walker. The food was delicious especially the lemongrass poached prawns with the coconut foam. We look forward to eating there again.
A reliable Seattle institution. We had the grilled King salmon and the Chef special grilled Coho with chantrelle relish. Both were very good. Well executed fish with that nice alderwood smoke flavor coming through. The King had a very nice coconut infused jasmine rice. The broccolini with the Coho was a little woody and would have benefitted from a little less time cooking. But still a very nice meal. Ivar's has gluten free and vegetarian options which are marked on the menu.
