Ivar's Salmon House Ratings and Reviews
The view of the Seattle skyline was very nice, the ambiance was also fantastic but the thing that really stole the show was the food. I highly recommend any dish with Copper River salmon. Here at Ivar's they know how to prepare this fish to bring out it's best.
We took out-of-state guests to Ivar's Salmon House for a great salmon and crab feast, hoping to enjoy the view of Seattle at night. We were not disappointed. This restaurant fit the bill perfectly and it will definitely go onto our "list of musts" when we host guests.
I have loved his restaurant for a couple of years... My complaint this time comes from the really poor
Service and information given when I made AND confirmed the reservation.
We had guest from put of town, and wanted to enjoy the fabulous buffet brunch that we
Haves loved for years. I called the restaurant to check on if the buffet would be available
On Saturday, as the open table site said "brunch served on weekends". The woman
Answering the phones assured me that the buffet brunch was available on Saturday.
This was also confirmed the week prior to the reservation. When we arrived at the restaurant
For our special occasion, we were shocked to find that there was only a very ordinary
And mediocre menue being served...
Great Place for a lunch meeting. Waters' edge views, great service and serene setting. Our server was perfect, very helpful when we needed her but never intruding. Plentiful free parking for customers. My softshell crab atop black bean salad appetizer was delicious and more than ample portion for lunch especially with yummie fresh-baked cornbread rolls. Multiple mussel options looked tempting for my next visit.
My wife and I went to Ivar's Salmon House to celebrate a special anniversary. It couldn't have been nicer. The view as it got dark outside was spectacular with the skyline of Seattle clearly visible across Lake Union. My wife had the plank king salmon and I had the sturgeon special. The salmon was very good but the sturgeon was amazing, perhaps the best I've ever had. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive. We were very impressed with our first visit to Ivar's Salmon House. Needless to say, we'll certainly plan on eating there again next time we're in Seattle.
I'm not a foodie, so can't address that part of it. I just know their food is delicious, the service wonderful (10 of us went there for brunch for my 60th birthday and everything was perfect). They handle large groups as easily as small (I've previously attended events there with over 100 people, and everyone was happy).
Excellent service, waiter knew their wines, great view and the food was very good. I had dish with 3 types of salmon and it was very good though the king salmon could have been a bit fresher. Even then it was good and the other 2 were very good - excellent. Certainly a better value for the money than some places.
The food, service, and menu selection was excellent. Our food was prepared perfectly as per our requests. We were under a time constraint and told our waiter, consequently, the service was very prompt, allowing us to get to the opera on time. We will be back.
We came from out of state and this was our first stop after getting off the plane. The server helped me select which salmon to have. I savored every bite and wished I had more. Everthing has a wonderful taste. We throughly enjoyed the view of the skullers practing and seeing the space needle from the window.
Service was very good although recommendations seemed like a push to move certain products. Food was good but not outstanding and seemed overpriced considering barely edible sides. View and ambience were great and effort was made to see we had a fabulous window table.
Great place to take visitors of all ages & many tastes. It's got local salmon/crab/halibut/shellfish in a variety of preparations; views of Lk Union, downtown, & the Space Needle; NW native long-house design with NW Coast carvings, totem poles, canoes hanging from the ceiling, Edward S Curtis historic photos of NW Native peoples, including Chief Seattle & his daughter Princess Angeline.
Menu is varied for people w/different dietary needs or preferences: interesting enough for foodies, plain enough for non-foodies, choices for people who don't like fish(!), the option of smaller portions of many entrees. Not a lot of choice for vegetarians/vegans, but the pasta dish is at least somewhat interesting. Fun for kids indoors & out.
We made online reservations for Thursday night and requested a window table for a special occasion. Not seated anywhere near a window whiel window tables sat empty. Food wasw s0-so, kind of a blanc and overall oily flavor. I can make better at home. Our server was friendly and solicitous.
I let them know when I made the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and that we had a gluten-free person in our party. They reserved the best table in the house for us and had a gluten-free menu ready when we arrived. Our server, Mike, went out of his way for us. All around fantastic Seattle seafood experience.
I made a reservation for my out of town Mother and I. We were pleased to be seated at a table next to the window. Great view of downtown and Lake Union. She wanted fried oysters and was not disappointed in her meal. I however ordered the halibut and chips at a cost of $20 and was disappointed in the ratio of halibut to chips. For $20 I expected more fish and less chips and maybe even a nice side salad. My Mother's $18 oyster plate cames with several vegetable options including potatoes and squash. Our service was fairly poor. It was hard to get our server's attention. When we wanted to order, she had to go "find a pen". We never did get bread or the extra lemons my Mom asked for. We should have just gone to the fish bar.
This was my husband's first visit to Seattle (my home) and "salmon is okay" to him. Well, Ivar's Salmon House changed his perception of salmon. It was smoked with very good flavor. Oh and the tarter sauce, none like it. Thanks for helping to make our last night in the Pacific Northwest, one to remember.
We did not get our table until about 45 minutes after our reservation. They did try to make it right by offering a free appetizer, but it was one for 10 people and we did not even get to choose what we would like. Our waitress was fantastic... she was definitely a pro at working with large parties!
Ivar's Salmon House is still an excellent place to go. I personally have one criticism and that is that they've hired an executive chef. I'm 62 years old and have fairly plain tastes. I don't particularly like the fancy preparations that come with an executive chef. I preferred the plain old corn bread to the ridiculous muffins and I wish I didn't continually have to ask for tartar sauce. Would I go back? Yes, of course. Would I take people there? Yes. Do I wish they'd take it back to the place that Ivar actually opened? You bet.
We always love Ivars. Our server was good but could have checked back a little more often. The strawberry shortcake was disappointing - I've it before and it was a LOT fancier/better. This time it was just a slice of pound cake with frozen strawberries and whip cream. I'll pass on it in the future unless it is offered in June again. We've gotten both the fancier items and the plain ones and to be honest, my personal favorite, over and over, is the 4 piece fish and chips. They also had a DIVINE roasted heart of Romaine salad on the fresh sheet recently - if you ever see it, you MUST have it. (It's not vegetarian, however - it has bacon on it, so if you're vegetarian, best to avoid it.)
So expensive, $350 for 5 for mediocre uninspired dinner!
So sad when there were so many other choices of Restaurants. Space was dark, the waiter so disinterested ,he splashed some of my cocktail on my lap and didn't even care!! We were looking for a good dinner and ended up wasting the food and our money . NEXT
