Our waitress Sarah was excellent and very responsive
The clam chowder is AMAZING! I'm generally not a fan of clam chowder but had to try some of my husband's bowl since Ivar's is known for their chowder. I'm a convert!! Really good. I enjoyed all my food, the service and the view. Would definitely go again!
Overall, good. 2 issues: req'td rd table, didn't get. No ackng'mt of special gath'g.
Asked for Sr disct, didn't get.
Beautiful location on Lake Union to relax and watch an amazing sunset including a rainbow. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the seafood platter gave us a nice sample of all the fish available now. We'll be back!
Overall, I was satisfied and enjoyed with this restaurant. The only problem was that the service for server was a bit slow due to high demand and crowded. We got difficulties to find our server. I wish we got 'a bell' to call our server.
Have eaten at Ivar's multiple times. Food has always been very good, but tonight it was a complete fail, except for the sourdough bread and butter. Ahi tuna appetizer had a purple/bluish color, smelled like bad fish and tasted terrible. Sent it back. Our salmon dinners arrived and on both entrees the salmon was cooked to death. This has never happened here before, but I think the kitchen staff has gone downhill. Sent both entrees back to the kitchen with regrets, because the sauteed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes were absolutely delicious. But if a place with "salmon house" in its name can't get the salmon right, well, there's no reason for me to go back. The manager did apologize profusely and offered a $20 gift card, but the damage is done.
Our server was Fabulous! Christina: A+. Very attentive w/o being interruptive. Very kind/patient w/our elderly pal.
Food was pretty bad. $27 for the grilled halibut: 8 asparagus stalks, mashed potatoes that tasted kind of “old,” & a smallish chunk of fish plopped on the potatoes. Entree only, no salad...& corn bread. Nothing was hot, except friend’s fries that came w/her halibut & chops. Chowder bowl was lukewarm. But our 86yo pal remembers Ivar’s as a wonderful place, so this was our 3rd time going w/her. Wouldn’t go if not for her. Too bad, as I also had good memories of Ivar’s. Mr. Haglund wouldn’t be happy about that food. Oh: Nice view.🌿
Good food, good service, good view. Ordered the special: Halibut was very fresh, however the “stuffed with crab” part was almost nonexistent! Just a smear a crab meat, which was disappointing. Want to try their Salmon next time.
We have been coming here 15+ years for their great Halibut fish and chips! On this last visit on 4/10/18 was a sorry disappointment! It appeared the fried halibut now comes from the freezer. The fillets were thin and dry and the edges were dark and very crisp! They advertised other fresh halibut entrees but they went frozen on the fish & chips! We won't return!!
Unfortunately my wife badly cracked a tooth on something hard in a clam. Still haven’t heard from their insurance company ( 2 days later ).
Old-school Seattle. With a table by the window on a clear afternoon/evening, you simply can not NOT enjoy your experience at Ivar's Salmon House. Though the fixtures, trim, and furnishings have aged (some worse than others) over the years, the food is still delicious salmon, well-prepared, served in a unique setting. Our server was excellent: well-trained and attentive. Do all you can to see the lake from late afternoon, through twilight, and into the night - it's magical.
The view was nice, had a corner table overlooking Lake Union for my daughter's and brother's birthdays. Food was good, just a bit overpriced in my opinion for the amount that you get. Would not come here all of the time, but it's a nice place to "splurge" every now and again.
Waiter was rude, seemed angry. The restaurant itself has a gorgeous water view. The salmon was delicious. It is NOT an elegant restaurant. Relaxed and casual. Sneakers and jeans seemed to be the norm.
We went to Ivar’s Salmon House on Easter. Lines were very long and MANY of buffet food items were “empty” and no one seemed responsible for monitoring them and getting them refilled! Management should have been way ahead on this matter. OF COURSE due to long line waits, all food we did manage to get was cold by the time we ret’d to our table.Very disappointed as I have had good meals at this restaurant in the past ( not buffet). By the way, the cold crab tasted very brined. I am a native Northwesterner and know good crab ( having caught and cooked many myself). I have also ordered crab in many a restaurant in Seattle and never has it tasted like the cooked crab offered at Ivars on Easter... inedible as far as I was concerned.Only positives were the view table , the coffee and our server -very nice. Probably our last visit to this restaurant.
Unfortunately, my family was disappointed with Easter Brunch. While the price went up, the available food choices decreased; noticeably the make to order pasta bar & sushi.
Our biggest concern was that we had a reservation 1:30, but were not seated until 1:45. This would normally not be an issue. But, you guys started taking some of the food options away at 2:30.
That really only gave us 45 minutes access to all the food options. Considering Easter Brunch is $45 per adult & $15 for kids, that was really disappointing & made everyone within my family party of 25 feel shortchanged.
We also felt rushed to eat in order to enjoy the available options. Which was hard because the buffet line was long and the crepe & omelet bar took a long time because there was only 2 cooks manning the line.
We have been to Ivars for Easter the last 8 years. This is the 1st time that we have remotely felt disappointed with our experience.
Overall Ivars does a great job & is definitely worth checking out. My Easter Brunch experience detailed above is the exception to typical great service & experience I receive when I visit for happy hour or dinner.
Everything was great and love how kid friendly his place is!
My only comment is that they had sushi on the menu as a buffet item and there was no sushi available. There were so many other options, it didn’t actually matter.
I went to Easter brunch with my family. The service was good. The food was mediocre. The crab legs were overcooked and the food was not that great. The food has gone down hill. The price for Easter brunch was too much. It went from $35.99 to $45 per person.
We were there for Easter Brunch. So the noise level was to be expected and not a problem. I've been to this brunch before. This year they didn't have the pizza out and you had to ask for the clam chowder. Which we did. But then felt bad because the bowl was rather large and my daughter was unable to eat it all. It seemed quite a bit more crowded. So there was quite a line to get to the buffet. It was very delicious as always.
Food was incredible. We got there a bit early, but was still able to get seated.
I have been here numerous times and was so excited for brunch. We went for Easter brunch which was VERY disappointing. It's a seafood house and the crab was inedible. The crepe bar was disappointing - crepe was very thin, overcooked and cold in the middle. There were a few good things but overall not worth the money paid for the buffet and I would never go back again for a buffet.
This was great, got a beautiful view of downtown and the water. One of the best views in Seattle for a restaurant.
The hostess was slow to seat us -- and shouted our name despite that fact that we were the only ones sitting in the waiting area. But the food (grilled salmon) was good. The salmon chowder is also very, very good, and worth trying.
Kind of noisy dining area.
Beautiful view out over Lake Union. Worth requesting a window table if you can.
Very good food. Comfortable seating with a good view.
Great seafood choices; spectacular view; good service.
Awesome lunch with my sister and my aunt and her sister. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful. Th food so good too. Thank you for a wonderful lunch
Local favorite that may need some attention. The fish is fresh, but the service was a bit lacking. They ran out of most of their beer and wine options, mixed up an order, and in the end left me unimpressed. I may have caught them on a bad night, but with so many great food options in Seattle, you may want to look elsewhere.
We have a tradition of celebrating our daughters birthday every year at Ivar's. It was great last year. It was great this year. Expect our family again next year if not sooner.
If this is not a Seattle classic already it should be. Great views, excellent food, and superb ambiance.
The best thing about this restaurant was the design and Northwest Indigenous artwork. The food was disappointing and the service team was overloaded, though cheerful despite their apparent short staff. Food took 45 minutes to reach us, and was overpriced given the quality and portion sizes.
We’ve been to the Ivar’s in Mukilteo and found it to be slightly more satisfying. This was disappointing.
We haven’t been to Ivars in many, many years. Was disappointed in how run down it’s become. We had reservations for 4 and requested a window table if possible. We were greeted by a less than friendly hostess. We were a few minutes early & waited patiently. When taken to our table, it was a window seat, wY in the back, in a corner. A view of cats trying to get into the garbage and a dingy patio w/ wires hanging down. Our water glasses were dirty so sent them back for clean ones. The window was dirty and the wood framing the window is in dire need of replacement. Our waitress was friendly but slow & forgetful. My halibut and chips were dry. Very dry. I can’t speak for the others. The chowder was very good!! When we paid, the waitress took our Visa card and never came back. After waiting 20 minutes, I went searching for her. She had forgotten. Perhaps the main dining room is nicer but doubt we’ll be back to find out. Very disappointed.
I have been contacted very nicely by the restaurant and are giving me a gift certificate to give them another chance. I will write a further update on this next visit but I am very impressed with how they have responded to my complaint.
I was very disappointed.
I ordered the taste of the northwest.
the dinners arrived warm like they had been sitting for 5 minutes. my wifes meal was also not hot; all the parts of the dinner, the seafood, potatoes and veggies.
my Halibut was bland, no seasoning or taste at all. the worst Halibut I have ever had.
my Salmon was bland, no seasoning or taste at all. one of the worst Salmon I have ever had.
the Scallops were OK but not very large.
it was my special birthday dinner and all I got for it was a candle.
we spent $140 and I did not enjoy my birthday dinner at all.
Very nice and staff (from hostess to waiter) and great food!
We only ever go to Ivars when my elderly midwestern in-laws are visiting because it feels like a “fancy” meal and very seattle and the view is incredible. The food is incredibly overpriced and frequently overcooked. That was the case at this last visit. The halibut was so dry and over cooked it wasn’t worth eating, and the mashed potatoes were salted beyond belief. Salmon was dry as well, but eatable. They brought out the wrong dish for my mil, barely apologized, then brought the right dish out after 20 minutes when the rest of us were nearly done eating. Then it took them forever to bring the check, and then the check had the meal that they mistakenly served my mil, plus her real meal. It took like ten minutes to flag the server down, he was like oh, oops, and then he brought it back. They charged us fully for the late meal, but at least took off the one that we never ordered. Through it all it was so loud my parents in law couldn’t hear a word my kids said. I’m going to convince my in laws to try somewhere else next time they visit, as truly the only enjoyable part of Ivars is the view.
Love Ivar's Salmon House, it never disappoints! My daughter turned 21 and it was the first place I thought of for a family dinner--the surf and turf was devoured!
View was spectacular. Food was ok. My salmon was not cooked all the way and had a few bones.
Celebrating Ivar Haglund’s Birthday has been a northwest family tradition of ours for years and last night’s meal was exactly what we have come to expect from the occasion. Wonderful meal and fantastic service! We love that we can always count on the Salmon House to be a place we can come and remember how Seattle used to be. Born and raised here, visiting any of Ivar’s restaurants was always a treat! Thank you, Ivar’s! ❤️
Another 4 fabulous salmon meals enjoyed by our table at Ivars Salmon House. Alder grilled salmon cooked to perfection as always. The spinach side is delicious. Desserts were excellent
Granted it was Ivars Birthday, but the service was sub par. They seemed to be well staffed, so that wasn't the problem. Waitress had an attitude and we had to repeatedly ask for things. Even though the price was right that night, I don't think it was worth it. The food was good, but the poor service ruined the evening. Would not recommend.
I was to meet my husband there for a date night. He forgot and was over an hour late! The waiter was marvelous and made me feel comfortable during the long wait.
We had a window table, which was lovely, but all the tables are good, due to the warm and cozy interior design. The whole restaurant is based off of a long house design with heavy timbers and whole logs for support. Much of the artwork is inspired by PNW Native art.
The food was fabulous as always, The sever and support staff were spot on.
We both had the seafood with grilled cornbread pudding and it was divine!
