Ivar's Salmon House
Book your next event with us
Ample parking, nice menu, servers attentive, view is across Lake Union
We have enjoyed the salmon house for many years. Our last visit was six or eight years ago, because we no longer live in the Seattle area. On this visit, we were very disappointed in the food.
The salmon house formerly had a limited menu and did everything very well. Now the salmon house menu has been expanded considerably, but the quality has suffered. The only dishes ordered by our party of four that were up to the former standards were the ice cream and sorbet for dessert.
On our next visit to Seattle, we probably will go to Anthony’s Homeport instead.
We've had many visits here. Always satisfied. The staff is very attentive with smiles all around. Food always very good. We'll see you soon.
We had a lovely table and good meals, but the waiter seemed overwhelmed. We usually have excellent food and service, so I was a bit disappointed the other evening.
This was an evening of micro aggressions l. We were told we could not have a window seat because they were first come. I turned around asked about the window seat across from the table offered. Okay, that is fine.
Fifteen minutes after we were seated, the waiter took our order after a family who was seated after us. This was annoying and did not add to our celebration. The waiter was nice and service was fine once it started. It was just a terrible way to start our meal. He never gave us his name. He was obviously working hard as he was sweating. Again, not appetizing, but it must have indicated how hard he was working. Right?
Salmon House ha always been a staple in our celebratory restaurants. I’m not sure that will remain. Food was fine. Not outstanding but also nothing really wrong.
There are a lot of restaurants in the city and some do kit treat people of color differently l.
Very nice decoration, the food was low average, oily and cheap presentation for the price. I was expecting something more elegant at $37-$40+ per dish. To me is a lost opportunity.
Appears fool choices and quality upgraded since my last visit!
Food was excellent. Very good waiter. Beautiful view.
Ivars is great place in the U District to bring visitors from out of town. The salmon is varied and all good. The décor is eclectic and interesting. The view of the water after dark are gorgeous.
We usually go here for HHants really love it ... but i decided to take my bf out to a nice dinner. We both ordered entrees that had smaller portions of salmon, halibut, and other seafoods, with potatoes and a vegetable. The wine we chose read fantastic. Idk if it's bc they are smaller portions of fish, but my salmon and halibut were quite overdone. It was a bummer. I'll go back but i spent over $120 and expect a chef to pay better attention in this establishment.
We have gone to Ivar's Salmon House for many years and have always had a great dining experience. We went last weekend, and it felt very cold (temperature) inside the restaurant, and the lighting didn't feel warm. They've also started charging for the bread/cornbread basket, which used to be complimentary (even refills). I feel like that is a fairly inexpensive item that the management might want to reconsider charging for, in order to start their diners' meals off on a good note. The meals are fairly expensive for the quantity of food. We still love the restaurant for bringing guests, but may not go as often if the prices keep going up. Our server was very friendly and efficient!
Old Seattle charm! We hadn't been there for years, but glad we went back. The alder grilled salmon is the best around. Very nice view of the city from North Lake Union, service was excellent and we enjoyed the quirky Native longhouse décor.
Good food, great service and great view of the lake!!!
Went for a special birthday celebration and everyone had a great time. Food excellent, service seemed inexperienced but helpful. We had a wonderful time.
This was a special event for us (anniversary) and Ivar’s was able to accommodate a request for a window seat looking across lake Union to the Seattle skyline. The food is excellent Northwest cuisine. The decor is classic Northwest/ Seattle — a valuable commodity in a rapidly homogeneous city.
The setting of Ivar's Salmon House is spectacular -- my group had a frond row seat to lake Union and the Space Needle! The service was well-paced -- just fast enough without feeling rushed. And there were so many options on the menu for seafood, as well as some non-seafood. Something for everyone! I want to return to this restaurant in the summer to enjoy dining outdoors on their patio.
We've enjoyed this restaurant for years! The food is great, and so is the service.
As always I had a wonderful meal and the service was great.
Restaurant was sorely understaffed. Sat for 10minutes before our nice but rushed waiter stopped off to say sorry trying to get caught up. 10min later asked her if we could order drinks. Mussels were done perfectly in nice wine sauce with spicy tomato oil (just enough kick) and coconut shrimp were pretty tasty. No refill of the one bread basket for 5 of us (hello- there’s wine sauce to mop up!). I ordered planked Coho- waitress asked if medium doneness was ok- I said yep, but came well done. Edible, but not what you would ever expect from a Seattle restaurant. Parsnip and apple side was not tasty. Other dishes were average to less than that. They need to step up their game- being mediocre at the prices they charge won’t last.
I brought family from out of town for a true northwest favorite - salmon! It was delicious and the view is nice.
Great! Really great!
Excellent location for NW menu and perfect for larger family seating. Wonderful holiday meal!
The food and service was wonderful. I had the seafood medley and it was amazing..especially the taste of the broth. The staff was attentive and asked often how well everything was...yummmy!!
Michael our server was very personable and nice. He recommended the crab bisque soup to my husband, who at first was hesitant, but when he explained how the soup was made my husband decided to order it. My husband was not disappointed and thought it was delicious! Great recommendation!!
We miss some of the old standards at Ivar's Salmon House, like the wonderful sour dough rolls that they have at Acres of Clams, and the escalloped potatoes and small oysters in wine sauce with rice. We are confused about tipping. Is it built into the menu or have you gone back to the traditional tipping?
The bartender and our server had been there for many years. Their dedication to Ivar's says a lot to me, an employer of hundreds of employees.
The service and food were good. The view is awesome. Making a reservation can be a challenge. I called several times and they would not answer the phone. I wanted to speak to a person, not use an app.
The food and service were good. No special occasion brought up, although was on reservation.
Sarah, our server was fun, knowledgeable, and fast! She’s great
Portions were small considering the high price. The salmon was dry and overdone.
Not sure about the today menu, we went on a Sunday and when we asked about the daily specials we were told it is a new daily menu and they did not have any special, when we asked about one of the entrees to the waiter left to go ask and came back but forgot about our question. We had to ask for bread and more waiter....seemed like it was too hectic for the waiter and not alot of help
Good food, good environment, friendly staff and good view.
Dinner plate presentation was amazing! Friendly and professional Hostess/server staff. Cleanliness was exceptional including the parking lot. An absolutely yes recommendation.
We have always enjoyed dining at The Salmon House. This past visit was to carry on a tradition of over thirty years of dining there a week or so before the holidays, sometimes scheduling it for the lighted boats visiting the Lake Union area. We also bring out of town guests for diner or lunch.
Our server, Sara, was quick, efficient and pleasant. Overall good dining experience.
Quiet evening. Dinner was good but some bites of fish were a bit “fishy” otherwise nice flavors.
It was the perfect spot for our birthday celebration. We had ages 7 to 75 and everyone loved their food. Our waiter was amazing and attentive. The boys had fun watching the boats with Christmas lights go by. I can't wait to make my next reservation!
Wonderful they could take our large family and the decor was very nice for Christmas. Calamari was the best thing we ordered. Each entree was very pricy and undercooked if fried food or over cooked if no fried items. The salmon was dry and the potatoes were crunchy. The crab cakes tasted like canned tuna. The fried halibut could not even be eaten. If service came around more we would have had more drinks but instead he stayed away throughout a majority of the dinner. For the cost of this dinner we were not impressed at all and quite disappointed in the food. We will not use this restaurant again for any of our family get togethers.
Our family of 8 , including kids and teenagers, had a wonderful time. Excellent food and service.
The food was good and service was excellent, but the restaurant is in need of a refresh - woodwork is worn and finish weaseling off, carpet is getting threadbare, and the place just feels a bit tired.
