Ivar's Salmon House

It was an overall good dinner. We were very happy with our server. It was real busy because there was a special deal where buy one get one for 1.14 because it was Ivar’s anniversary. It was real
Busy but the service was very nice and polite. He refilled water without asking and was proactive about watching our entrees. They were late but without us asking he told us he was checking on it and the kitchen was backed up. The grilled alder salmon was on par and we loved the rock and blue salad.
Excellent northwest ambience and food. We had some vegetarians in our party and were pleasantly surprised that they had several nice veggie options.
We felt ignored much of the time there. Waiter was busy but I think the fact that we were using three birthday coupons in a party of seven didn’t help any. I’m a person who believes in tipping on the full amount when there’s a coupon involved, but I didn’t do it with the two checks I picked up that night. Eye contact could not be made with him and when he said he would be right back, it would be 10 minutes. He was pleasant enough when he would finally get to our table. If this was due to being understaffed and overworked, then it was not acceptable, Ivar’s. He had two large tables and five regular ones. That’s too many!
Lovely view, good food, nice server
Disappointed. We were in Seattle from out of town. Decided to try Ivar's Salmon House. Soups were good. Caesar Salad was awful - romaine center, a little brown and wilted. I had pan fried oysters. These were NOT pan fried (deep fried) and they were overcooked - chewy. Very disappointing.
Wanted great salmon. It was exceptional over the alderwood. I did the simple prep which is fish, oil, salt and pepper.
We had a birthday celebration. Everything was perfect! The waitstaff were all friendly, accommodating and engaging. The food was absolutely delicious and the view is one of the best in the city!
View is awesome. Got a salmon Caesar which was mediocre. Too expensive for whAt you get. I don’t think there was a single piece of dark green romaine on the plate. Looked like iceberg. Very average.
We went as a large group celebrating the retirement of a colleague, and the staff at Ivar's Salmon House couldn't have been nicer! Our group was in a separate section so we were able to move around and socialize which must have really annoyed the servers, but they never showed it. They were super accommodating, always pleasant and smiling, wrote separate checks, just accommodated our group wonderfully. They do add an automatic 18% gratuity, but please add more tip -- they are so worth it! Thank you, Ivar's Salmon House!
A group of us; I paid for 2 and our bill with tax and tip was $100. No beverage, no dessert and no appetizers. We had to pay for bread (what?) and starter.
Great place, loved the happy hour menu
Fast, friendly service. Food and drinks were awesome. Looking forward to going back.
We always have a great time at the Salmon House!
Server was polite, but seemed a little overwhelmed. Forgot to bring out the appetizer our table ordered. One of our entrees was the surf and turf with steak and scallops and it was so disappointing - the seasoning, the way it was prepared, the flavor, the cut/toughness. Overall, not a good experience.
Brought our out of state, college-aged grandchildren for dinner. The setting and view was fabulous, and we enjoyed the delicious salmon dinner very much. So happy that the noise level was not a factor as it is in many restaurants. Our server was great. Very nice evening. Thanks
Our server didn’t make any connection with us. We sat and talked for a while after ordering coffee and desert, and after he picked up the tabs, his job was done, and he never checked back with us.
We went to celebrate my mother’s 83rd birthday. We ordered 4 dinners of which two orders were fish & chips my mother had one of the fish & chips orders. Later that night, my mother got sick and we didn’t relate it to the fish & chips until my father ate the left over fish & chips from my mother’s order the next day and he got sick. There was something wrong with this one order of fish. The rest of the food was good. For the price, the atmosphere is very loud, especially if you are hard of hearing. As all of us are getting older, it is harder to hear with all the background noise. This is the first time that we have had a bad meal. We usually eat here one to two times per year in celebration of a anniversary and/or birthdays. The scenery was gorgeous on the water.
I love Ivar's because the food is good, the ambiance has a northwest feel, and the restaurant is on Lake Union. Triple winner
The salmon was beautifully cooked on the Alder wood. The atmosphere is very inviting and the waitress went above and beyond to make sure our table is comfortable and food was satisfying. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Service was a bit indifferent this time and ignored asking about my special occasion for my 86 yr old father
Always a nice birthday celebration event and using my sweetie's birthday coupon makes it even more affordable for retirees. Lovely design of the restaurant.
The items on the menu were very interesting and and my choice of the Sampler was outstanding!
Have been to Ivars since my parents took me there while I was a UW undergraduate! Still the reliably best salmon, ambience and view in Seattle. Also, you can have something besides King Salmon! The Coho and Sockeye were fantastic. Wait staff very attentive without interfering with conversations. Lovely place and we will be back.
The revised corn muffin is not as good as the prior way the cornbread was made and served. It would be awesome to again offer alder grilled black Alaskan cod. We live in the Midwest and have enjoyed Ivar’s on Lake Union for decades.
Excellent service, also for kids. Can only recommend it.
Loved the ambience and it was a perfect place to have a meal with my aunt. Food was great too!!
We always spend our Birthday at the Salmon House. We had a very nice lunch I thought the salmon was a tad overcooked.. Otherwise it was great.
While the food was good I found it to be very pricey for the portion size brought out. Also, in my case with the fish and chips, they came out pretty much fast food quality. My wife said her meal was tasty.
Great food, great service! Perfect spot for a late birthday lunch with the folks. Our server was very personable and attentive. What a surprise when he brought out a birthday dessert for my father. He has been paying attention while were discussing the menu, etc. We also enjoyed the amazing view – watching the sailboats on Lake Union. Perfect afternoon! Thank you.
It is my 4th time in Salmon House and last experience was the best. Food was good. King salmon really tasty. Silver Salmon was a little bit drier than it can be. Overall food experience is positive. Lake Union View is great: it is especially beautiful when Downtown lights are on in the evening. Service was outstanding, waitress was attentive and respectful.
Our table of 4 felt very crowded, with walls close on two sides and another table tightly behind. Bill arrived before the dessert did.
5 out of 6 meals were very good. One meal was only so-so. Waiter was very personable and attentive.
I love the atmosphere and would recommend Ivar's Salmon House to others. However, I would point out that some of the food items are very spicy (I had the fish and shellfish medley bisque) and that when the house is full, the noise level is very high. Just a few acoustic ceiling panels and/or heavy curtains would make the noise much more bearable.
Anniversary- food there is consistently below competitors in flavor and quality.
Had a great late lunch with a student employee. Services was great as was the food.
The service is friendly, atmosphere and decor are nice and the view is great! But the food was really bad. It looked delicious but tasted super bland. Both drinks we ordered were bad and the desert (cheesecake) was awful. I don’t know how you ruin cheesecake - but this really tasted like just trying to eat strawberry cream cheese. For the price (~140 for a meal for 2, and 2 drinks) I expected more. Was pretty sad I choose this place for Valentine’s Day. I wonder if the seafood is fresh in the summer - and frozen in the winter? I remember liking the food here in the past so maybe it’s good in the summer? Was disappointing enough I don’t think I’ll be back to try again. Stick with their fish n chips/fish bar instead.
I love this place, but it must’ve been an off night on this Valentines Day. The service, usually fantastic, was merely passable. The food was mediocre, especially the oysters. It seemed they were finely chopped and deep fried resulting in more batter than seafoood. I’ll go back, but hope it improves.
We went for Valentines Day.
The crab cakes were amazing. When it came to the main courses, I ordered the King Crab legs. The legs were over cooked and the meat was rubbery. We notified the waiter and he took the dish back to the kitchen and then came back and told us that we got half off of the meal. Then he asked if we wanted something different to eat and I asked for crab cakes instead. In the end, they charged me for the crab cakes again. Seemed like we shouldn’t of had to pay for the poorly cooked dinner and at least got comped for the extra crab cakes that we wouldn’t have ordered if the food was cooked correctly.
Had wonderful service and the food was excellent. We are coming back for lunch in 3 weeks..meeting up with friends there. I love the decor of the restaurant too...lots of wood.
We had a good experience. The food was good, the service OK; but the price is way out of line with what you get. You would think when you are paying $40 dollars a plate you wouldn’t have to spring another $4 for bread! On top of $7-10 for soup or salad. And the deserts were just not that good for what we paid. I took my wife there for Valentine’s Day, we were both very excited to be going to the Salmon House. We expected a much better experience than we got. We went away knowing that we don’t need to repeat that experience again.
