Ivar's Salmon House

We always spend our Birthday at the Salmon House. We had a very nice lunch I thought the salmon was a tad overcooked.. Otherwise it was great.
While the food was good I found it to be very pricey for the portion size brought out. Also, in my case with the fish and chips, they came out pretty much fast food quality. My wife said her meal was tasty.
Great food, great service! Perfect spot for a late birthday lunch with the folks. Our server was very personable and attentive. What a surprise when he brought out a birthday dessert for my father. He has been paying attention while were discussing the menu, etc. We also enjoyed the amazing view – watching the sailboats on Lake Union. Perfect afternoon! Thank you.
It is my 4th time in Salmon House and last experience was the best. Food was good. King salmon really tasty. Silver Salmon was a little bit drier than it can be. Overall food experience is positive. Lake Union View is great: it is especially beautiful when Downtown lights are on in the evening. Service was outstanding, waitress was attentive and respectful.
Our table of 4 felt very crowded, with walls close on two sides and another table tightly behind. Bill arrived before the dessert did.
5 out of 6 meals were very good. One meal was only so-so. Waiter was very personable and attentive.
I love the atmosphere and would recommend Ivar's Salmon House to others. However, I would point out that some of the food items are very spicy (I had the fish and shellfish medley bisque) and that when the house is full, the noise level is very high. Just a few acoustic ceiling panels and/or heavy curtains would make the noise much more bearable.
Anniversary- food there is consistently below competitors in flavor and quality.
Had a great late lunch with a student employee. Services was great as was the food.
The service is friendly, atmosphere and decor are nice and the view is great! But the food was really bad. It looked delicious but tasted super bland. Both drinks we ordered were bad and the desert (cheesecake) was awful. I don’t know how you ruin cheesecake - but this really tasted like just trying to eat strawberry cream cheese. For the price (~140 for a meal for 2, and 2 drinks) I expected more. Was pretty sad I choose this place for Valentine’s Day. I wonder if the seafood is fresh in the summer - and frozen in the winter? I remember liking the food here in the past so maybe it’s good in the summer? Was disappointing enough I don’t think I’ll be back to try again. Stick with their fish n chips/fish bar instead.
I love this place, but it must’ve been an off night on this Valentines Day. The service, usually fantastic, was merely passable. The food was mediocre, especially the oysters. It seemed they were finely chopped and deep fried resulting in more batter than seafoood. I’ll go back, but hope it improves.
We went for Valentines Day.
The crab cakes were amazing. When it came to the main courses, I ordered the King Crab legs. The legs were over cooked and the meat was rubbery. We notified the waiter and he took the dish back to the kitchen and then came back and told us that we got half off of the meal. Then he asked if we wanted something different to eat and I asked for crab cakes instead. In the end, they charged me for the crab cakes again. Seemed like we shouldn’t of had to pay for the poorly cooked dinner and at least got comped for the extra crab cakes that we wouldn’t have ordered if the food was cooked correctly.
Had wonderful service and the food was excellent. We are coming back for lunch in 3 weeks..meeting up with friends there. I love the decor of the restaurant too...lots of wood.
We had a good experience. The food was good, the service OK; but the price is way out of line with what you get. You would think when you are paying $40 dollars a plate you wouldn’t have to spring another $4 for bread! On top of $7-10 for soup or salad. And the deserts were just not that good for what we paid. I took my wife there for Valentine’s Day, we were both very excited to be going to the Salmon House. We expected a much better experience than we got. We went away knowing that we don’t need to repeat that experience again.
An outstanding lunch with a great view of the city. Awesome fish and chips.
Great food and a great setting, like usual. It’s our go-to place for a nice meal out and when we have out-of-town visitors.
I've been going to Ivar's Salmon House for about thirty years. At the beginning it was the very best salmon I'd ever had. It may have been one of the best MEALS I'd ever had. They have changed for the worse over the years. The ambiance is still fine, the view is superb, and building is unique. The last two times I've been here I've had to send back my first piece of salmon as overcooked, very dry and tasteless. The replacements were barely acceptable. So it's come to this, from the VERY best salmon I've ever had to nearly the worst.
Our waiter accidentally dropped a bottle of ketchup onto our table, shattering a water glass and making a mess. They immediately moved us to another table and gave us a HUGE discount on the meal without our complaining or asking. Couldn't have asked for more under the circumstances.
I brought some out of town relatives here on a Sunday night for dinner. Great atmosphere. Very NW and very comfortable yet impressive. Our food was great. The salmon was cooked perfectly. We were able to get a table next to the window so my guests had a few of downtown. Our server was very attentive.
Always a familiar standby for special occasions and to take visitors. Great place for many years. The lunch selections were perfect.
I expected a buffet brunch as usual- the restaurant has gone down hill! No buffet anymore- no breakfast. Only lunch and it was not good. Sad to see a favorite decline so rapidly.
They were busy on Saturday night and it took 10 minutes before a server showed up to our table, so we had no drinks or anything during that time. Once the server did show up, the service was prompt and accurate. The food is very good and I definitely will go back.
Great salmon! Great atmosphere! I will be back soon! Great place for a family dinner or to bring friends from out of town!
The view of South Lake Union at sunset was an added bonus to a great dining experience. The waitress did return frequently so all of our needs were addressed without waiting.
Very accommodating for a group. Very engaging staff. Blackened Rockfush and chowder were incredible.
Ivar's Salmon House is expensive, good food and fabulous view- with authentic art that is marvelous.
Service-Our waitress had a nice personality but seemed super busy. Never got or offered a bread basket and food took a very long time to come out.
No water refills ,small things.
We had a great dinner with a bottle of wine. I had the halibut dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it. We even had dessert when we thought we were already full! We shared a apple pie and ice cream. It was perfect! We caught up on news and enjoyed the view of being on the waterfront. It was a fantastic birthday dinner for me and we really had a great time. It was the second time dining at the Salmon House for me in January (my birthday month) where several friends and I had a great and delicious lunch! They remembered that I had said I wanted to go to Ivar's Salmon House when I was asked for my desired location. They said great because they remembered what a wonderful time we had having lunch there last year. The Salmon House did not let us down and I will be selecting it as where I want to have my birthday lunch next year, too!
While a little over priced, Ivar’s Salmon house is a excellent restaurant. The food is invariably tasty, our service was excellent, and unlike downtown restaurants parking is easily accessible and free. The place is a perennial favorite for us,
Both servers (as well as the host staff) were very engaging and accommodating with our small party in celebrating my dad's 98th birthday. My dad is an avid fan of the salmon and chowder as was not disappointed! For those of us who are vegan, we doubly appreciated the variety available for us!
Great environment, but noisy. Food is excellent. Service was mediocre. Seating great!
It's a bit noisy, but the food is great, the view is spectacular, and the service is quick, courteous, and attentive. The food features our local seafood bounty, and keeps the cooking simple to showcase the flavors of the high-quality ingredients.
Our group of 4 had dinner at Ivar's. The appetizers were great - Dungeness crab and goat cheese dip plus a special appetizer skewer of shrimp and scallops. The salmon and halibut we ordered for entrees were also very good, and they were accommodating about changing the sides as requested. Service was OK, but not that attentive and the restaurant wasn't very crowded. I would have appreciated the server checking on us and refilling drinks a bit more frequently, but still, we enjoyed it a lot. Great view of downtown Seattle from our table.
Ample parking, nice menu, servers attentive, view is across Lake Union
We have enjoyed the salmon house for many years. Our last visit was six or eight years ago, because we no longer live in the Seattle area. On this visit, we were very disappointed in the food.
The salmon house formerly had a limited menu and did everything very well. Now the salmon house menu has been expanded considerably, but the quality has suffered. The only dishes ordered by our party of four that were up to the former standards were the ice cream and sorbet for dessert.
On our next visit to Seattle, we probably will go to Anthony’s Homeport instead.
We've had many visits here. Always satisfied. The staff is very attentive with smiles all around. Food always very good. We'll see you soon.
We had a lovely table and good meals, but the waiter seemed overwhelmed. We usually have excellent food and service, so I was a bit disappointed the other evening.
This was an evening of micro aggressions l. We were told we could not have a window seat because they were first come. I turned around asked about the window seat across from the table offered. Okay, that is fine.
Fifteen minutes after we were seated, the waiter took our order after a family who was seated after us. This was annoying and did not add to our celebration. The waiter was nice and service was fine once it started. It was just a terrible way to start our meal. He never gave us his name. He was obviously working hard as he was sweating. Again, not appetizing, but it must have indicated how hard he was working. Right?
Salmon House ha always been a staple in our celebratory restaurants. I’m not sure that will remain. Food was fine. Not outstanding but also nothing really wrong.
There are a lot of restaurants in the city and some do kit treat people of color differently l.
Very nice decoration, the food was low average, oily and cheap presentation for the price. I was expecting something more elegant at $37-$40+ per dish. To me is a lost opportunity.
Appears fool choices and quality upgraded since my last visit!
Food was excellent. Very good waiter. Beautiful view.
