Ivar's Acres of Clams Ratings and Reviews
My son suggested this restaurant based on his previous dining experience there. He described the Halibut fish and chips and the best he's ever had and said we all needed to go there to try them. My daughters birthday dinner was a good excuse to give it a try. He was correct, the Halibut was excellent. A little on the expensive side for fish and chips, however a very good meal.
This excellent location right on the waterfront at the ferry and water taxi terminals has fairly decent (metered) parking outside and parking lots across the way. The ambiance feels authentic for a big seafood restaurant. Service is professional and attentive enough. Our waiter addressed all requests positively and knowledgeably. The salmon dish, fresh oysters and steamed clams that we ordered satisfied all the seafood wishes we had for this birthday dinner.
Two friends and I went for New Years Eve dinner. It was wonderful. Our table was ready at the time of the reservation, no additional waiting. We had requested a window seat through Open Table and got one. Our server, Bradford, was outstanding! Friendly but not overbearing. Helpful with the suggestions. Never flustered. The one disappointing feature was there was no entree with dungeness crab, only king crab. Must have been the season or availability. I had the bacon wrapped halibut and it was an excellent substitute though. Great dinner.
Cold food..... bad service. My mom wanted to go here because she went forty years ago and liked it. We had a party of eight. Our chowder was cold. So was the halibut. My sister and I shared an acre of clams that tasted like a can of broth was poured over clams and served just warm. No flavor. So disappointing as this placed was $325 before drinks. None of us enjoyed the meal and our waiter was snotty and inconvenienced. Would never return.
Been coming to the restaurant for years, first time disappointed. The font for Blue Friday and only in the bar should be the same size; disappointed to learn not in the restaurant. I ordered fish, no French fries, side of slaw and tartar sauce. Obviously the waitress did not "hear" my order because it came as the usual fish & chips. The chips were wasted, only had a small container of slaw. Because we were with another couple I did not send the meal back; however, I let her know that the order was not what I asked for. I also had to remind her twice that we had ordered wine. It appears that unless I text or tweet my order, the young set does not listen or take note of your order verbally.
My family was looking for a pleasant Christmas Eve lunch during our visit to Seattle. Ivar's was right on the water, so we watched the ferries board. Picturesque. Food was very tasty, but not over the top amazing. It was a lovely respite from a cold day. Our waitress was cheerful and helpful. Her suggestions were excellent and improved our food choices!
I made a special request in reservation notes for a more quiet area with possible window views. They put our party of 9 on the raised area, out of the way, with a great view of the ferry traffic. Just about every table in the place has a view of some kind. It wasn't very busy for a Friday night, so we had the upper area pretty much all to ourselves. Our server was super patient with my mother, who has dementia, for which I was grateful. The food was very good, everyone enjoyed their meal. The remodeled space is great. We'll definitely consider returning for special occasions and/or with out of town guests. Ivars is a classic Seattle institution!
We had good service except the kitchen didn't make one of the entrees and the server didn't notice so we were all sitting there, our food getting cold, waiting for his entree to arrive. Finally we started eating, feeling terrible that he was sitting there without food. It took about 20 minutes before it arrived. He wasn't charged for his entree, but that didn't make up for the fact that it was very unprofessional to serve an entire table without checking first that the order was complete, it was awkward for the rest of us to eat while he watched, and he was hungry!
Some of the people liked their food. The fried food and the chef special looked best. I had cioppino. Broth was salty, greasy and old tasting. No fresh tomato flavor at all. The fish was dry and flavorless. Also it looked to have been sitting out for 10 minutes or more under the lights as skin had formed on it... all for 36 bucks. The toasted baguette was more like soggy wonder bread toast with grill marks. The drinks were stingy. Definitely not a "free pour." The staff was very good especially given their youth. Looks like good management and good training.
Worst service ever. We've been here many times and the service was fine. Our waiter seemed to simply forget about us. Runners and support staff did help to pick up the slack. Food took way too long and once it was dropped off, there was no follow up. Had to wait over 15 minutes to get the waiter's attention for our check!
We were there mid-afternoon prior to Monday Night Football, the restaurant was very full, and the wait staff was FANTASTIC (given a very full crowd). The food was, as always, equally good. We took friends from out-of-state, and they were well impressed with everything!!
We were there on a slow night, great views of the bay and watching the ships come and go. The service was excellent, our first server got sent home because the night slow he was humorous and excellent. Our second server tattoos with spectacles as the first one describes him was also excellent with great desert and desert drink recommendations.
Disappointing quality. Sauce on the sockeye salmon was corn-syrupy and cheap. Brussels sprouts under cooked and scorched on the outside. Bacon pieces were just small strips of under cooked fat. Had better food at Denny's. Expected much better from an iconic Seattle restaurant. Though service, ambiance and view were excellent. Not the Ivar's of years ago... Sad.
