About It's Italia
It's Italia opened in 1997 as a San Francisco style trattoria and pizzeria serving gourmet pizzas, house pastas, and creative salads, always with a California Italian flavor, and a wine list of 10-12 varietals.
Ten years later, our menu has expanded to include steak and seafood grilled specialties, artful antipasti, and a decadent array of housemade desserts from our pastry chef. Over 120 bottles line up on our wine list from Italy, California, France, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand.
As always, we have remained faithful to a local coastal California Italian cuisine, with its cosmopolitan nature, bringing produce and cheeses from local farms, meats and poultry from quality and organic growers, and seafood from a variety of waters.

It's Italia Ratings and Reviews
Food was exceptional; they were out of the first two wines we ordered and the service was quite slow. Took someone over 10 mins to greet us once we were sat and didn’t get much better after.
However, I would highly recommend this place because the food is absolutely incredible. We had the prawns, octopus and clams/mussels as appetizers and they were fantastic. Pizza is great. All the pastas were fresh and delicious
Really excellent Italian food, full of fresh ingredients. Great wine list, including Italian wines. Our waiter (Ben ?) was really professional and very pleasant. Even in the middle of the restaurant, it was quiet enough for conversation. Lovely, warm atmosphere. We didn't sit outside, but the outdoor patio and fireplace looked very inviting. We'll be back !!
It's Italia never disappoints, I tried their home made artichoke ravioli on my most recent visit and it was quite good. The locally sourced vegetable backs up the growing farm to table theme. You'll find an eclectic Italian menu, fresh seafood and a wood fired oven where a variety of meat dishes and both thick and thin crust pizza are prepared. The homemade meatballs are top notch! Beware that the seafood risotto, while still very good, was better when it contained day boat rather than bay scallops but the fresh clams and full size prawns remain. Nice spirit selection and quality drinks.
A friend and I reserved a table for lunch at It's Italia because we had both eaten here previously and liked it. We were catching up because we had not seen one another for a while. Our hostess was very welcoming and our server was so sweet and understanding about the fact that we took a long time before we ordered our food. We also took our time to finish our lunch because going out for a meal is a special event in our world. Our food was delicious and well prepared. I have had similar meals in San Francisco that were not as good. I love the salads here because they are fresh and contain ingredients that I like. The salmon was crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked, not overdone. The gnocci is the lightest and best that I have ever had. One day I will get around to trying the items on the dessert menu.
We first went last year while on our honeymoon, and after our experience, KNEW we would return. This past weekend we chose to travel back to Half Moon Bay to celebrate an anniversary & birthday, knowing we would for sure go to It's Italia for our special dinner. The staff & food was fantastic! Our server was knowledgeable about the menu & gave perfect suggestions. They sang happy birthday as a large group, and made our whole experience feel very warm. We will definitely go back again!
I've eaten at other Italian places in Half Moon Bay - this one beats them BY FAR!!
Spaghetti bolognese meatball was super good. My wife had the shrimp linguini, sauce and noodles were amazing, shrimp was, well, just shrimp...like in most Italian dishes with seafood.
The bread pre-dinner is amazing as well. Can't get over the service. Waiter loves his job and even the servers were very enthusiastic. That makes the difference for me. We sat down at 5:55pm for dinner and we were out of there by 6:25! Fast eaters love fast service. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME LOOKING ANY FARTHER...go now.
We enjoyed excellent appetizers, one used butternut squash, the other roasted brussels sprouts, would order them again. My entree was an artichoke ravioli that was very flavorful, my husband had a prawn dish that was equally good. He had an on tap beer, me a split of Prosecco. It was a lovely evening. It's Italia never disappoints.
I have been to It's Italia a number of times; unfortunately Friday night's experience gave me second thoughts about returning. We were kept waiting 10-15 minutes for our table for two with reservations, had to wait several minutes for our appetizer to arrive, and then were kept waiting between 30-45 minutes for our entrees. The burratta appetizer was very good, but the most positive description for our entrees was indifferent! Everybody was apologetic about all the delays...something I'm quite willing to write off to last minute staff chanegs, etc. But the waits and delays could be forgiven if the food had been up to its previous quality. I am VERY sorry to say that I won't be returning to It's Italia.
We have dined at this restaurant quite a few times. Unless it is very cold and/or wet weather I strongly advise asking for a table in the outside patio area. The tables are spread out a bit better there than inside.
The food is very good. Their pizzas are super as is their pasta dishes including traditional spaghetti and meatballs. The beef dishes are also a good choice.
The service is very good. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable. My only complaint with this establishment is their wine prices are a tad on the high side with most bottles going for $50 to $60.
We both had the Pumpkin Festival Salad, only this time of year, so hurry and get in there! I had the Wild Mushroom Risotto, excellent, meaty mushrooms, couldn't finish it. My husband had the Lasagna Bolognese and the best he's ever had and we brought half of that home too.
Everything was prepared fresh. We had Pizza, Salad and Apple Pie and some wine. Service was friendly and attentive. Restaurant is on a nice spot on Main Street from which you can take a nice stroll. Overall great value for the money. Two thumbs up. Will come back to try more from their menu and pretty extensive wine list!
been going to this restaurant for years. a great place for good Italian. My wife had a terrific fish dish, flavorful and colorful! Pasta is consistently satisfying. Our waiter was well versed with the wine menu.
Outdoor seating next to the fireplaces is best, weather permitting. If not, indoor is very cozy. This is our go-to for HMB!
We went for Sunday brunch. We had a reservation and were seated right away. Ambiance and service were great. Food was good, but not quite great. Steak and eggs, steak was a little overdone for medium. It was sliced up for serving and I would prefer if it was left whole. Huevos rancheros was good, but not a stand out. Spaghetti carbonara was great. I guess it is best to order Italian dishes at an Italian restaurant! The popover with butter and jam which we shared was fabulous.
Service was great, nice location and space. The Bolognese dish my son ordered was completely dried out when it came - they immediately took it back and came back with a completely new dish. The new dish was moist, but had zero taste. Everything else was pretty good, and service was positive.
After the biggest heat wave in memory, we we were a little reticent to brave the throngs of beach-seekers for dinner in downtown Half Moon Bay. As it turned out, we needn't have worried. Traffic forced us to delay the reservation, but the staff at It's Italia took it in stride. They seated us on the patio, cooler and quieter than the dining room, and brought delicious bread. The margarita was potent and tart, the way I like it. We loved the gnoccis and pesto pasta comfort food. Cherry pie was on the sweet side for me, but it was delicious. Staff was warm, not formulaic. Add It's Italia to the list of HMB restaurants that are worth trying!
We where given a $100 gift card to Its Italia. We used it in July and my husband ordered the salmon. It came with mash potatoes and a vegetable. It cost $22 and it was delicious. I ordered the Chicken Marsala and it had no Marsala wine taste in the dish. Very disappointed. We still had money left on our gift card so we tied the restaurant again. Yesterday I ordered the salmon but this time it came with only roasted vegetables. Some kind of red and orange long roasted peppers. When I ate one of the peppers my mouth was on firer. Totally tuned my meal. Now that salmon dish cost $29. My husband meal stated shrimp in a tomato cream sauce. Not what he got. It's a charming place but stay way from their Salmon with roasted vegetables and Chicken Marsala.
A great restaurant for many years, it has been one of our favorite Italian spots in HMB. More recently, the service levels and details have not been there, so we would now rate this behind Mezza Luna and Pasta Moon. For example, water has been warm, long delays to bring out bread, longer delays between salad and main course, tough to split a salad in two, etc. I'm sure these things will get back to normal in time, but probably just requires better training of staff and the kitchen. Food quality is still there, but great restaurants are careful with the service details.
Had been previously and enjoyed our evening. Decided to go with friends this time. Starter of Brussel Sprouts poor, kids menu non existent, booked table for 6:30 seated at 6:55 service overall pretty poor. Got food orders wrong and Kids pizza ended up being a regular pizza. Complained and was laughed at. Won't go back will stick to Pasta Moon
