Ithaki Modern Mediterranean Ratings and Reviews
Ithaki was good as usual. We hadn't been for dinner for a while so nice to get back. We normally seem to end up here for lunch on the weekends, which is terrific. Since we were there for dinner, that meant the lamb shank was in order. Terrific as usual. Killer grape leaves that grandmother makes. I had the octopus and as usual it was great. Simple but tasty. Some ground fav beans accompanied and were a good foil for the octopus. Galaktobordiko (I'm probably spelling it wrong) was for dessert and again was very good. We'll be back.
This is not your run of the mill Greek restaurant. The chef here is amazing and the food continues to amaze me, especially the chef's specials. The swordfish special with white beans and squash was unbelievable. If it were not at Ithaca, I would not have even dreamed of ordering it, because I am more of a fish/meat, potatoes and vegetables person. The flavors were amazing, the fish so fresh. I also love the greek deserts. I find it to be among a small handful of truly good restaurants on the North Shore.
Ithaki brings me back to my Greek roots, it offers delicious authentic Greek dishes beautifully presented and in generous portions. We've been going for over ten years now and it's better than ever. Their octopus is so tender and flavorful, good to share before your main course. Their fish is so fresh, being in Ipswich their fortunate to have it locally sourced. I wish I could remember our waiters name, he served us in the bar, tall, thin, young, handsome, and so very patient, gracious and knowledgeable of their offerings. He couldn't do enough for us. Try it, your going to find yourselves mailing it one of your regular restaurants.
We have been searching for a good upscale Greek restaurant on the North Shore and found it 20 minutes from our home in the lovely town of Ipswich. The restaurants in our home town area of Newburyport and Amesbury have become too expensive for every day dining so it was good to see Ithaki was very reasonably priced. The Greek food was excelllent. The service wonderful. We will be back often.
I have been to Ithaki many times before, and have never been disappointed. There is always something new to try via daily specials. The calamari is fantastic, although I have to ask for the sauce on the side because it is too spicy. Braised lamb, moussakas, and other traditional Greek foods are spot-on. Don't miss the galactobouriko for dessert.
Good Mediterranean inspired food, nice wine list and ok prices for what you get.
Saturday 7:30 pm service was what you would expect for a popular restaurant... service took a long time because so many folks arrived at the same time. We were not in a hurry, so it was fine.
Food was excellent. Wine was superb. I described to our waiter what I was looking for and he gave me a good recommendation.
Overheard waiter telling staff "They order what I tell them to order." I found this an arrogant point of view. I hope he was just joking and that this is not his real attitude Otherwise the service was excellent.
I like authentic Greek food and it's difficult to find.
Had been to Ithaki on multiple previous occasions. This was by far not the best visit. Even though we had a reservation they tried to seat us in the bar twice before we finally were seated in the dining room (at a less than ideal table). Service was sloooooow and verynot good. Seemed like they did not have adequate staff for the number of patrons. Waitress "forgot" to bring our wine. Grape leave appetizer arrived cold ( in fairness, they did take it off our bill). Moussaka was good. Lamb Skewers with rice and asparagus was lackluster. Lamb was over salted.
Overall, not sure if I would make a return trip.
A worthwhile dining experience. Small plates with lots of Mediterranean food options. Excellent waitress. I would definitely return as the food was good. It was, however, not exceptional. Not every food experience needs to be that, so I always allow for the simple good food to have its own place in our dining experience.
Though more of a fall/winter dish, I hadn't had it in such a long time...I ordered the mousaka! It was absolutely delicious! Our group had several different food wants/needs: basic, vegetarian and celiac to name a few. For the most part, everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The lamb sandwich, though moist was extremely salty. They offering for gluten free was fine, though it would be great if they added some gluten free bread to the menu. It's one item that a lot of celiac's miss when going out to eat and the table is served some deliciously warm bread. The service was attentive, friendly & helpful. Loved the ambiance and decor.
Everything was SO amazing! From the welcoming hostess, to the attentive friendly waiter Andrew! The food was incredible. Fresh, tasty, seasoned perfectly! We like to go here because my teen is a vegetarian and there is always a huge selection for everyone!! Highly highly recommend. They never disappoint. Can't wait to return.
