Ithaka - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
It was the worst Greek salad we ever had. The dressings on both the salad and for the fish were oily and tasteless. The salad had no flavor and was dripping in dressing. The fish was pretty good, but we were not given very many vegetables (which we asked for instead of rice). The bread was just ok.
I have dined here often since it's in the neighborhood and have never had a bad meal. On the contrary, I have always enjoyed everything completely. The starter spreads are so tasty and come with a basket of tasty, warm pita. We usually order a whole fish of the day that is delicious no matter how it is prepared. I like the simple grilled option. The grilled shrimp are perfect, and we recently tried the baked shrimp dish that was wonderful surprise. Service is attentive and prices are reasonable.
Good and fresh meal , quite environment . Not noisy at all. The only improvement point is the service crew who should give less pressure to the customers and avoid asking continuously if they can bring up a new plate during the dinner ... most of people (and me itself) go out for dinner to have a relaxing time and wants to feel them free to take their time ....
Absolutely the worst food ever. Totally bland and shrimp and fished were burned to a crisp. We told the waiter and they didn't even offer to give us a new dish. There were 3 of us and 2 out of three meals were not edible. Would never go here again
Excellent Greek Restaurant! We were celebrating a birthday and made reservations. The restaurant was quiet, and nicely decorated. The service was very good and attentive. We started off with some appetizers (eggplant dip, cheese flambe, and spanakopita) which were all very delicious! Our main meals were delicious as well and plentiful. They acknowledged my daughter's birthday and they came out with a dessert and we all sang "Happy Birthday." It was great! There are many dishes on the menu to choose from such a meats, fish, and vegetrian and priced reasonably. So there is something for everyone! Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant for a good meal, the attentive service and most importantly, the delicious food that they serve. Enjoy!
I have walked past Ithaka a thousand times and never gave it a thought until we needed a special place for a special occasion, so we gave it a try. AND IT WAS GREAT. Great food, service and reasonably priced. It's wonderfully old-school in service and menu. The cuisine is authentic to its origins (read Greek) and each dish was well conceived, prepared and presented.
Always a great meal at our favorite Greek restaurant in NYC. We have been coming here for years and it never disappoints. Lovely atmosphere and friendly waiters. Spinach pie is the best! Love the fish- so fresh! Nice wine list. Reasonable prices in a great area on NYC.
The food is excellent - not trendy or nouvelle, but always delicious. Service was serviceable, though not effusive. The restaurant was active, but not crowded, when we were there, so we were happy to be able to talk and hear each other; this was aided by pleasant background music that was actually in the background. All in all, a dependable good experience.
Nice spot in our neighborhood. Waiter was especially good, I would say, professional. He knew exactly how much we wanted to be approached. He was friendly and helpful and accurate. I was impressed. Of course the food was very good. I happen to like Greek food, and I was satisfied. Ambiance was clean and comfortable. Overall a fine experience for our family group of four adults.
My wife and I had dinner there on Saturday, April 8, 2017. It was excellent. We had the cold appetizers, which was Pikilia (a choice of three dips). The pita bread was very good. For our entrees, we had Bronzini which was deboned. It was very fresh with lemons and a sauce. They do not spoil it. The servers do that in front us. The staff is very good. We had Tino as our server. For dessert, I had Galaktompoureko (a Greek dessert with phyllo, filled with pastry cream). We have been there many times.
We went to Ithaka as it was near the movie theatre, and liked it so much, we returned the following week with more friends. It's ideal if you want to have a conversation as the noise level is perfect for that. food is honest and good Greek. Service is very nice and friendly. I had freshly grilled fish one time and jumbo prawns grilled the next. Dolma and salads were also excellent as was the $50 pinot noir. Affordable, enjoyable, will return.
Merits much wider audience. We've been going to Ithaka for years. Reliably delicious fresh grilled fish. It survived through 2nd Avenue subway construction nightmare and now sits directly across the street from the new 86th Street Q station. CONVENIENT.
We went there Thursday night. White taverna decor intact. Wonderful grilled prawns. Only half full. Waiting for it to be rediscovered
The food at Ithaka was fairly priced and well prepared. We had a 7:30 reservation but by 9:45 as we finished up our fish, I felt like we were nearly, almost being pushed out of an empty restaurant, I believe they are open later than 10pm(?) We hadn't finished our first course before our whole fish (perfectly cooked and excellently filet'd) was brought out. I know timing of courses can be tough but I would have liked to have taken my time instead of crowding our table. It may be traditional Greek style to serve things asap and as they ready but I was slightly taken aback. Overall still a pleasant, delicious dining experience. I would recommend and will likely be back.
