Istanbul Turkish Cuisine Ratings and Reviews
The puffy bread and baba ganoush were very good. We also had calamari appetizer which was flavorless with a flavorless sauce. The entrees ranged from decent to poor, especially after an hours wait. Chicken kabobs were ok, the lamb kabobs ordered medium, were well done which rendered them tough and boring. The lamb chops were tiny and burned yet cold. The other ground chicken entrees were not very good.
Our server spoke little English and had very little menu knowledge. On several occasions we had to remind her of something we ordered. The place was 80% empty and yet the service was very slow.
We really wanted to like this place and had heard good things. Maybe we caught them on an off night even though it was a Saturday, but I think there is a reason they always seem empty.
We have dined at Istanbul Turkish Cuisine several times and have always had a great meal. We were a group of 8 and wanted a place where we could enjoy good food AND be able to talk without loud excessive noise. The atmosphere was very nice, we could hear each other's conversation, and the food and service was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their meals.
We go here often with the same friends. We get a variety of dishes so that my wife can think back to when she lived in Cyprus. She likes to go there and converse in Turkish to keep up he fluency of the language. The food is authentic and the service is always at a good pace.
Istanbul is consistently good. It is not excellent, but it is good enough to return, and no aspect of it disappoints. The food is tasty enough - not the best in the area, but much closer to home than its competition. The "yogurt style" of entrees can be a bit spicy, so be careful.
We love coming to Istanbul for some really fabulous food and very attentive staff. It is always hard to choose what to eat as everything we have tried there is very delicious. We always start with the lavash which is a wonderful bread that is great as a starter with their homemade hummus. This is a great restaurant for a family dinner or a special occasion.
My wife and I have eaten here on a couple of occasions and I must say it is a great place to go. We like it better than the other Turkish restaurants we have been to. The interior is nice and modern and clean. The service is good and the food is excellent! The lavas is very good to start your dining experience and they have 2 sizes, so a party of two can enjoy the small one. We have had kabobs and lamb chops. Both are very tasty and reasonably priced. They have a decent wine list and a full service bar. If you have a large party, they have a private dining area available. They have a few tables outside also if you want to sit outside on a nice evening.
Made reservations for 6:00p.m. for party of nine. We arrived and where seated promptly. Took about 10 minutes for waiter as there was a wedding party seated in the back room. He took our drink order (spilt the wine), gave us water, and we ordered appetizers and our meal. Appetizers arrived about 20 minutes later and he did not come back to check on us or refill water.
Around 7:00 I stopped him as he was walking by and asked him about our dinners. He said he would check and I did not see him again. At 7:15 I went to the bar and asked for the manager and explained the situation. She said because of the wedding party they were behind. I pointed out to her that there were at least two other tables that were seated after us and they had their meals but we did not. She said she would check on it.
Food finally arrived at 7:25. Chicken kebobs were overcooked and dry; lamb kebobs overcooked; beef kebobs tasted like lamb and were overcooked as well (probably cooked in the same pan at the same time). The only thing that was good and cooked perfectly was the fish. Again, we never saw our waiter until he cleared the table, and no one asked us how our meal was. However, another waiter did stop by and told us the dinner part of the order was not turned into the kitchen.
Now to the you are joking moment. The bill comes and there is a 20% tip added into it! I asked for the manager and she told me that a 20% tip is added to any party of 6 or more. I asked her if she thought it was a good idea to add the tip given what happened and stated, with a straight face, the tip was standard!!!! I told her that since it was not advertised on the menu or mentioned anywhere, even when the reservation was made, I would not pay it. She agreed to take it off the bill.
There you have it. Bad service, overall bad meal (appetizers were good), and no apology or acknowledgement that they screwed up; trying to use the wedding party as an excuse.
We had a family event w/16 people. Everything went great -- from scheduling to dessert. Even for a large group, service was very attentive and food came out promptly. We eat here whenever in town and it's always "spot-on". Highly recommended, whatever the size group or occasion.
Istanbul is a great place to go when you want food, fun and conversation. Everything they serve is delicious. Get one of the mixed appetizers, and don't forget the "hollow bread". The mixed grill is fun for a group to share, too. When we're entertaining, Istanbul is where we choose for a perfect evening.
I had the lamb kabobs, shepherd (?) salad, and the hummus. All of it was so fresh and amazing. The salad was a big surprise, it was so flavorful with fresh herbs, little pickles included in the salad and so many vegetables that it could have been a meal in itself. Next time I am travelling to that area, I will definitely stop at Instanbul!
We chose this place because they were on Open Table. We looked at the dinner menu on Open Table and the meals were around $11-13 which is a reasonable price. When we showed up for our reservation and looked at the menu the same dinner selections were $16.99 to over $20. That's quite a price jump. Because of the sticker shock we got up and left.
We were already sitting in our car when one of the employees ran out to the car to see why we left. NEVER do this. It makes you look desperate and sad. I told her about the huge price difference from the dinner menu they have posted on Open Table to the actual menu in the restaurant. She offered us 10% off but that wasn't going to cut it. No soup for you.
We ate here after Istanbul had been open for a week or two, and were terribly disappointed. Some restaurants just need to find their footing, and this one certainly has. The food was delicious, the service was great, and we're very much looking forward to coming back.
