I typically order in from Isola. This was my first time dining in at the restaurant. We went for a last minute birthday celebration. The food is delicious whether dining in or out. The staff was very accommodating during our meal at the restaurant. There are no major frills about the restaurant or its ambiance. This is simply a great place if you want a great meal and an easy dining experience.
Great Italian cuisine at affordable prices. I had linguine wtih clam sauce for lunch and it was only $12.
A wonderful date night spot! Would definitely come back when visiting NYC.
food was good but, not exceptional. pleasant environment and service. no real complaints, just a little above average dining experience.
A very special place with friendly staff, great food and a relaxed atmosphere. I have brought out of town guest here the two times I have eaten there and they all have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Great local place to call your own.
This was a special find. The food was fabulous, the ambiance perfect for a nice relaxing dinner with friends. It was so nice to be treated well by the staff and the owner. I would recommend this spot in this great up and coming neighborhood. I will absolutely visit it again.
The freshly made ribbon pasta was delicious and risotto special was amazing. Next time we'll have to try the pizza from the wood oven. This was our second time at Isola and it never disappoints.
New Years Eve early meal. Used to go to the place all the time when it was further downtown. Menu was good, lots of choices. We will definitely go back again.
Our meals were delicious, the service was great, and the price was outstanding. I plan to return.
Really great for a local spot. Price and taste are low and high for the hood. We were treated well.
I've eaten at Isola several times over the last few years. The food has been reliably inconsistent. Specials are sometimes fabulous, others just OK. Regular dishes are sometimes fabulous, others so-so. Cooks come and go, I think, is the problem. But this time the special octopus appetizer ($18) was almost inedibly tough and the special risotto with spicy salsiccia was blah. On top of that, when I brought a bottle of wine from home I was charged a $15 corkage fee.
Dined for the first time at isola and was pleased with everything my husband and I ordered from the homemade mozzarella in the caprese and fried artichoke to the entrees we shared - gnocchi and spinach and cheese ravioli in sage butter sauce. Also recommend the Nutella crepe for dessert. Only disappointment was the focaccia and chickpea hummus spread served as the bread. The bread was too dense and would have preferred good evoo instead of the chickpea hummus. But overall enjoyed my meal there and plan to return.
Great dining place. Very friendly staff. Were very happy to customize some needs we had.
Minestrone soup was exceptional. Pasta entrees were fresh and delicious. Will visit again.
We love it!! We have become regulars now as we live in the neighborhood. Great food and fantastic service. It's nice to walk into a restaurant and have everyone remember you. The lasagna is simply the best anywhere and their thin crust pizzas are amazing...they have daily specials as well. Never too crowded. Nothing fancy so just a very comfortable place to have a consistently nice meal.
Very sweet little place with delicious food and thoughtful, attentive service.
First Time visit
Excels food, outstanding Service..read reviews in opentable..all positive reviews were spot on
The food was excellent and very authentic. Attentive service and reasonable prices. Highly recommend!
Very nice waiter, very warm and personable.
4 of us each each had something different and each enjoyed our meal
I've brought a group of 8 to Isola twice, and both times have been a breeze. The staff is attentive, and the restaurant hasn't been crowded (so it's easy to carry a conversation across the table). Great quality Italian food with a lot of seafood options (but also plenty to choose from for vegetarians!). I would highly recommend Isola on Columbus for a date or a larger group—it's got enough variety to please everyone, and it will be a pleasant experience for all!
Outstanding food. Our 2nd visit and we will back. Presentation; freshness; selection - specials and off the menu. Very good value. It is open air so can be noisy when traffic passes. But we sat in the back and were very comfortable.
Isola is always consistantly good. The food is well prepared and very flavorful. It is honest authentic Italian food. The wine list is small but a good assortment of wines to match the food, all reasonably priced. The service is always good and professional. The noise level is not bad by any means, when we were there they were playing some nice jazz music, but not loud enough that you could not have a quiet conversation. I would highly recommend it.
We really enjoyed our dinner. Everything tasted fresh. Reasonably priced wines, wish they had a better beer list.
The food here here was just the beginning of how wonderful this restaruant is. There are few authentic Italian restaurants up here and its nice to see one with appropriately sized portions and wonderful service. Our server was funny and always there when we needed him. Best go to for special dinners!
A small and pleasant neighborhood Italian restaurant with a wood burning pizza oven. Specialty is the pizza, but ample pasta choices and several fish and meat options. My pasta a bit underseasoned, my companion's salmon perfect she said. New and with a modern rather than italian decor, not too many tables and a bar. Definitely neighborhood feel, nice. A block from the Cathedral.
Isola is, I overheard another customer say, owned by Bettola, in the 80s. This is a great new place to have a good Italian meal at a reasonable price. The wait staff seems a little unsure of themselves, but everyone is friendly.
The ambience is a big plus: hinged front windows were thrown wide open, so the cool evening air circulated through the pleasant dining area. The Bronzino and snapper were excellent. The ciarcoffa alla Judea, not so great. The servers were helpful, but never intrusive. This will be our neighborhood Italian choice for the future.
Isola on Columbus gives the neighborhood a feeling of being in some of the more "foodie" neighborhoods in Manhattan. The outdoor dining is the best -- though the traffic noise can be loud at times. The food is prepared with great passion and the flavors take one back to the source! Best part -- PRICING is unbelievable for the UWS! You won't go wrong at Isola on Columbus!
This "new to us" place on the UWS is wonderful -- we've walked by it several times, but just this week decided to give it a try...the Prosciutto Pizza ws perhaps the best I've had in Manhattan...the pasta/vodka sauce was above grade for the price paid...all items are wonderful and fairly priced...
Met friends there for an early dinner before going to the Cathedral of St. John for a concert on Saturday evening. Restaurant has huge windows on the front that food away to the wall, so even if you're seated inside, you have the openness and fresh air of outdoor dining. My spouse and I both ordered fish...well prepared and nice presentation. Our friends both ordered lasagna and said it was excellent. Would return again if I was dining in the area.
A friend from the area (upper upper west side) recommended this place, so we tried it for the first time and were very pleasantly surprised. The food was great and the ambiance and service were both comfortable and easy. We'd definitely go back!
The title really sums it ip. The pizza was delicious, but the pasta was very generic italian restaurant. Owners seemed lovely and it is a nice addition to what was once a very desolate area of northern Columbus Ave.
The food was great and but the service was lacking. We were really happy with the leisurely pace. Didn't think we would find a good last minute Mother's Day brunch. But this was really a surprisingly good find. Will definitely go back but wish they could figure out their serving issues. They really blew a couple of things. I thought perhaps it was a language thing but I was not really clear why only half the coffee came or food was misserved.
My husband and I ordered two pizzas that were fantastic! Crispy, thin crusts, fresh toppings, perfect size for one.
The fried artichoke heart appetizer was decent. I'd order it again but not before trying other things.
Although there was a full bar, they could not make drinks since there was "no bartender on duty". It was a tuesday night so i suppose thats reasonable but if they expect to draw people in I would think that making a simple Manhattan or any other cocktail would be necessary.
I'm willing to try again though I'm not sure about whether my husband is willing to give them another shot...
The staff here were the best. The food was really good as well.
