Islands Dining Room at Loews Royal Pacific Resort Ratings and Reviews
Booked thinking restaurant would be crowded for the character dinning, which it wasn’t and that was awesome. My son got to spend great time with the despicable me characters. The wok experience was not so great. Smelled good as they prepared it but tasted awful at the table. I actually had to finish eating my sons kid pizza to fulfil my hunger. Even the miso soup was not pleasing. Deserts were tiny and not worth the money. We were ignored a few times by our server and he only had 2 tables. I had better experience the next night at Jakes American bar and grill. Scooby doo came to visit us there, it was busier, more family like environment. Islands was too quiet and now I know why.
Character breakfast buffett on Sunday was amazing! A bit prizy at $27 per person for breakfast. Great breakfast selections, fresh fruits, cooking island, hot items, sweets, all excellent! Plenty of characters going around the tables at all times! Our waiters Nora was always pending on our needs providing an excellent service! Will recommend!
We reserved online at Open Table and reserved with the price listed as $43 and $17. We were shocked to find the thanksgiving brunch was $58 and $29 as there was absolutely no pricing listed for
That. For that price, we wouldn’t have gone. We had a wonderful time until we received the bill.
We reserved this restaurant because it was listed as a Character Experience for Universal Resorts. We were very disappointed that there was only 1 character (Scooby Doo) - coming from being Disney Annual Passholders where Disney Character Experiences have at least 4 characters.
The food was very expensive for fair quality. I had the seared ahi tuna which was cut in huge chunks, rather than thin slices and was served on "black" rice - which was mysteriously black, certainly not a squid ink rice, and very dry.
My husband had a rib-eye steak which was 'fine' but at $35 it should be very good. It certainly didn't meet our expectations for a restaurant housed in a Loews resort
Food was great. Service was terrible. Waitress claimed they don't take AAA discount. Had a hard time with a gift card which ended up being fine anyway but it took her 20 minutes to figure out what was going on. She also blatantly asked for more tip on top of the 18% that is tacked onto our bill for having a party of 8!!!!
We had heard about the brunch from online reviews. For the extraordinary price I expected a decadent experience. The characters were fun but the food was no more interesting than IHOP. Wish we had ordered from the menu as many of the entrees they are known for were apparently not part of the buffet. The service, juice and coffee were great. Maybe if you're in the hotel already but definitely do not travel for it
We went to Islands to take advantage of Magical Dining and we were not disappointed. The full sized appetizer and entree were a welcomed surprise as sometimes during Magical Dining, they reduce the size of their meals due to the reduced price. The calamari appetizer was very flavorful and the Bulgogi Rib Eye Steak was tender and delicious and cooked a perfect medium rare as requested. My dining companion had the steamed pork buns and the salmon which was flavorful and moist. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and we will likely return.
We all had the "Wok Experience" and they really need to add to it (soup, veggie options, salad options) for charging $25 per person. I have never seen a smaller dessert option at a buffet style meal. For that price, we had higher expectations.
The service was great and we had a fantastic waiter and the kids loved the characters that visited us at dinner.
We went to Island Dining Room on a Sunday for character breakfast to meet the Minion and Gru. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was ok with limited choices. Character interaction was underwhelming. There were five characters but they just wanted to get the picture done with each person and moved on. Scooby rushed by, and Bart Simpson skipped our table. The only character that was fun and into the character was Gru. He was hilarious and had definitely saved our whole character breakfast experience. Comparing to Disney's character breakfast, Universal ones offer less value in terms of food and character experience.
I went on a character dining night and it was really fun and unexpected. I got several pictures w/the characters and they were very generous w/their time. I had a rib eye dinner and it was mouth watering tender. My daughter had the salmon and it was cooked just right.
we were staying at the hotel so thought we would try it. We typically like asian food. I thought the atmosphere was very nice, the waiter and overall service quite excellent. My 15 year old son did not like the mongolian beef which he usually loves in other locations. I thought the food was good but not outstanding. Still, we had a nice time.
Disappointing character dining- the advert suggested minions, but we had 2 very brief appearances from Bart & Homer Simpson. Food was great- wok experience cooked from scratch in front of us, good value, but the desserts were taken away before we got to them- had to ask for what was left!- and the waiter seemed disinterested and offered the bill 3 times before we'd finished. Felt like he couldn't get rid of us fast enough at 9.15pm. We only arrived at 8pm! Our children as well as us adults were completely underwhelmed by this character dining experience. For plain dinner would be good though.
