Island Prime Ratings and Reviews
I ordered the Special that day which I underdstood to be ribeye steak. I ordered it medium. It arrived medium-rare to rare. I did mention it but did decline to have it cooked again since that is usually never satisfactory. I NEVER heard that LOBSTER came with it. I realized it when they brought melted butter. What I did NOT realize that the charge for this was $75!!!
I suppose I should have asked but figured a ribeye might run around $40. So yes, my bad. But lesson learned. We love the setting and ambiance but not for an unsatisfying dinner at nearly $200 incl. tip for both of us.
I brought my foodie group to Island Prime on Saturday night. Food is excellent but service not so great. The waitress only mentioned two specials. After she left, we heard a waiter at the next table describing more specials and in great detail. Some at our table said they would have ordered differently, had they heard about those specials.
I ended up ordering the boned in ribeye with salad and baked potato. The baked potato didn't come when the steak was served. When I asked about it, she said, it will be just a minute. Well, she clearly forgot to order it because the potato came when I was almost done with my steak. Instead of apologizing, She just callously said, don't worry about it, I took the potato off the bill. If I order a $60 steak, do you think I care about a $9 potato off my bill? She doesn't get the fact that she ruined my dining experience. The boned in ribeye is very good. The service. Not.
I asked for a window table for our anniversary. They advised that we arrive early because they don’t hold specific tables. We did arrive early and were seated at a table with a window and a beautiful view of downtown San Diego and its lights. I lost track of the number of restaurant staff who wished us a happy anniversary. Wonderful filet mignon with bearnaise sauce, delightful mushrooms with puff pastry, fabulous green beans. They brought complimentary creme brûlée and more good wishes for our anniversary. We enjoyed it so much that we talked about going back before we got back to our hotel.
Had a great experience out on a date night to celebrate a birthday. Arrived very early and checked in before heading to the bar for a round of drinks and an appetizer which were all great- the zen martini and the woodsman cocktails were good and the crab mango avocado stack was delish. The hostess came and found us early to tell us they had a window seat available and from there our server was super personable and helped us with our wine selection. I had the cod and my husband had one of the prime ribs. Both were very well prepared. The view was amazing and a window seat was definitely a great bonus. This will definitely be a new special occasion go to.
Nothing was wrong with any of it but felt like I could have been more wowed with the side dishes, fries weren't crispy and au gratin potatoes lacked seasoning. Steak and Pork Chop and Brussel sprouts were excellent. Ice cream trio for desert was very good as well.
In town for the Breeder's Cup and two nice dinners, this being one. Our server, Josh (I believe) was that good mix of casual and business like. He knew the menu and the wine list very well and guided us through. Great steaks and great wine with excellent service made for a memorable evening!
Birthday dinner at my favorite restaurant!! No stranger to Island Prime. My go-to restaurant for food, service and view. James was awesome and the service impeccable as usual! Matt the manager came by to check on us. All good! Had steak tonight but everything is good there. Thanks to all wait staff!! 😊😊😊
I was disappointed only with the service. I came to San Diego for my birthday. Even though we made reservations well in advance..the table was not optimal. If there was a large waiting list I may have understood.
Our server seemed to just want us to leave. Did not explain specials..we learned it from the table next to us. Maybe he wished he would have them as his assignment.
The meal was exceptional. Scallops were perfect fully cooked. Sweet and savory. The filet trio was also perfectly executed.
I can not recommend though..not a happy Birthday celebratoon..only because of the service
Lack luster service with mediocre food that is grossly overpriced. We are prepared to pay a fair number for quality food and good service. This was far from it. City views were great but not enough to come back to this place given there are plenty of alternatives around.
Our experience was not a bad one. The food left a bit to be desired. The steaks were very good, but the scallop dish was flavorless and greasy. Could have just had appetizers and may have felt better value for the money spent. For the price I could not recommend unless you are coming for steak. The special birthday dessert was a kind touch. Our server was kind and knowledgeable.
Nice table with a great view. The service was great. My date had a rack of lamb, cooked rare the way he asked. I usually have soup, salad and a side. Mac and cheese was delicious. I can't get over the large menu and everything cooked perfectly. It was a birthday dinner and it was very special. Thank you.
We had to wait for our window view so the manager bought us drinks. The kitchen put lobster on our potato but our server caught it then comped it. Another manager brought us free dessert. The food was fantastic and the service was genuine and, frankly, for a little inconvenience, we got a hell of a deal!!!
I have had 1 good experience at Island Prime but the last 2 times I have Not . The name is Island Prime and they have been out of Prime Rib the last 2 times . My steak was under cooked to what I requested and my puff pastry was cold . Other then that it was fine
Celebrated my 60th birthday here and it was fanstastic. Had a beautiful table right on the window, Brady the server was funny, and very efficient, and the food....especially by bone-in-ribeye was out of this world....
Had lunch the day before at C Level.....Yes, I like these restaurants....can't beat the location, the food, the service and the ambience!
This place was awesome! We came for our anniversary, and were able to enjoy excellent food, service, and a wonderful view. We had cocktails, soups, lobster, steak, and a couple of the rather large side dishes. We left stuffed, but fully satisfied. We'd come back for sure!
I own a high end custom catering company in Northern California and cuisine is always the center of my experience when I travel. I recently flew my husband into town with me for a day to celebrate our anniversary on a Wednesday. We ended at Island Prime for dinner before catching our flight home. From the moment we valeted our car, the experience was fantastic. We had made a reservation and were seated promptly by a man truly interested in our day. The ambiance, attention to detail, service and food ended our trip on the highest note possible. Our waiter never approached us without a smile, our glasses never fell below half full, and the food was an absolute show of visual and flavor perfection. I honestly forgot to photograph it as I was immersed in the experience. We ended with a complimentary dessert of congratulations. The price was reasonable and fair for the experience. I have paid more for less, so to say that I am pleased is an understatement.
Absolutely loved Island Prime. The service was great and the food was amazing! You really can't beat the views either. This is a great spot for an anniversary, birthday or special occasion.
I ordered my steak medium and it came out medium rare, but they were very accommodating and took it right back to the kitchen after I mentioned something. They also have their full wine list on an iPad that goes into detail about the wine, which I thought was pretty cool. Will definitely go back!
Actually we made our reservation to C Level and even told the reception about our reservation but we end up at Prime Island! My husband and I were celebrating my husband’s birthday! First of all the table supposed to face the view but in fact half of table face the view and half facing the kitchen. The table next to mine had groups of 5 or 6 and they were very noisy and loud we could not have ever privacy chatting on his birthday. Finally, the food was awful! The steak was brought in empty dish and small portion and nothing even green to decorate his plate! I ordered Mahi Mahi and was dry and not good at all. For us, was wasting money and time and was not worth the value we spent on it.
I made reservations here over a month in advance and requested to simply have a table with a decent view as the main attraction seemed to be the location and view. Upon arrival, I was told I would be put in the back of the restaurant where it was noisy and felt like a regular restaurant but costed double the price and was given nothing but a quick "sorry" for it. The service made it obvious they are not fit to handle a busy night as the waitress had to constantly ask to give her a few minutes to check on the other tables, I don't blame her I blame the staff not being adequate on a weekend night for a full restaurant. I would only recommend going here MAYBE on a lazy Wednesday evening, nothing that has potential to be busy. The food was o.k. and honestly the best part about the restaurant as everything else left a lot to be desired. Negatively affected what was supposed to be a special evening. I only went to two places while in San Diego and I'd highly recommend Top of the Market over island prime if you're looking for a romantic setting with great service and food. Very disappointed in this place, will never return.
