Seth our waitress treated us with great service .the food was excellent. We are coming back 👍
Great view. Popovers were not as good as I remember (a little overdone). Wedge salad was great. Fantastic steaks (wagyu petite New York and eye of ribeye). Sides were mediocre at best (wild mushrooms -puff pastry was actually burned, and au gratin potatoes- very oily to the point of inedible). Cheesecake was ok. Reasonably priced wine list. Server was wonderful! Overall this place is a good alternative to Flemings or Ruth’s Chris if you want to support a local restaurant group vs a national chain.
Loved everything except the 3% surcharge for minimum wages. Either hide the charge in your prices or do away with it! I won’t be back until it DiSAPPEARS!!!
We celebrated our 25 th anniversary and were so pleased . Kerry our server was warm and engaging. All the other staff were attentive to our needs. Our meal was wonderful . The popovers and jalapeño butter set our taste buds singing !!The lobster bisque was delicious . We each had prime rib and with the twice baked potatoes , we had enough for a wonderful dinner the next night. Our only regret is that Chef Deborah was not on site so we could say hello . We are two of her biggest fans .
Amazing experience with a wonderful view of the city lights. It was expensive but worth it. The food was incredible!!!
Island Prime is one of my favorite San Diego restaurants, and once again it did not disappoint. As delicious as the main dishes are, we go for the Ahi Tuna Stack, the pop overs, and the lobster stuffed twice baked potato. Be sure to bring a few friends to help you tackle the potato!
The service was outstanding as always, and it's hard to beat the view.
traveled from las vegas to san diego for a family vacation... friend recommended this place and made my reservations online with open table. i put in a request for window seating and also said it was me and my wife’s anniversary. got there and got a table by the window and also a happy anniversary dessert! thanks u guys!!! u made this anniversary alot more special!! and our server was the best!
Disappointed Again! We have been long time supporters of all the Cohn Restaurants. Unfortunately, our dining experience has been poor the past the past 2 visits. My entree, lamb, was over cooked to the degree of being well done when I ordered rare to medium rare. The server was quick to respond and replace the entree with the filet. This too while cooked correctly did not appear to be a prime cut as represented. Island Prime is not living up to its name.
Four of us celebrated birthdays here. Our party included a vegetarian, a beef lover, someone on a low-salt, low-fat diet, and someone who just likes good food. Everyone was happy. The tofu dish was delicious! The hash in the dish was so tasty. The sirloin practically melted in one's mouth. The buffalo rib eye was nicely seasoned and was not gamey at all. The brussels sprouts were just amazing. And then there's the popovers, and the view...we even saw fireworks from Seaport Village! Great celebration.
Fabulous filet and even more fabulous ahi.
Birthday dinner for my girlfriend was amazing! Great food, big portions and big size, you definitely get what you pay for!
You can't beat the view and the service was perfect. The feedback food was delicious... And be warned the portions were most generous.
Though a pricey restaurant, it is just the place for a very special evening.
Food was very good and service excellent. Fresh and presentation was beautiful. Reasonable price as well.
Island Prime is always amazing
Amazing place. Amazing food just awesome. Went there for our anniversary and were treated so special. Nothing over the top. The server more than deserved the 3% they add to the ticket.
With a perfect location and spectacular view, one would expect better of this over-stuffed eatery. I will henceforth refer to this as Island Crime. To start, the bartender had a runny nose and was sniffling and sneezing all over the glassware. When I received my glass I had to wipe it down for fear of sharing his Ebola. Moreover, as all bartenders (and Bar Managers know), a four-count is a proper 1oz pour. I watched as the bartender poured 1.5 to 2 count pours when making drinks. The result was a disappointed clientele... two people next to us made similar observations. Has he been instructed to do so? Are they thinking that because so much of the client base is transitory that they can do this to abscond with more shots per bottle at the client's expense? After a cocktail we adjourned to the dining room and received wonderful service from our server, although his assistant felt it enjoyable to stand behind our table drumming out paradiddles on his service tray - until we asked him to stop. Maybe he was just bored, but nobody goes out to "fine dining" (and I use the term loosely in this case) to suffer noise from someone who would clearly be happier working at the Hard Rock. The popover bread, more of a brioche really, was served hot and tasted wonderful. My filet mignon was flavorful, although presented rare instead of medium rare - if you can't get it right the first time, don't send it back as the experience has already been downgraded, and besides, who wants to wait while their companion eats? A word to the wise, don't go here expecting fine dining. If you go, better to have one short-poured drink and enjoy the view - then depart to one of the other options nearby. 200 dollars wasted. To Cohn Group: step away from the kitchen! Let the adults cook.
Wonderful place and great service. My date and I went here for my birthday and we had a great time and was even sat by the window.
The waitress was friendly and professional. She gave us suggestions on the menu that were excellent!
Not bad. Not great. Filet trio was pretty tough for a filet and the mashed potatoes were not good. Queensland waygu was definitely better and far more worth the price. Overall, it was okay, but I won’t be rushing back anytime soon.
I thought puff pastry was attractive but bland. I love bread and did not bother eating it all.
Escargot was very good. Oyster Rockefeller - okay but would not order it again. Pork Chop was very good, excellent sauce and nice accompanying vegetables. Boneless Ribeye was cooked perfectly (medium rare) but no sauce, so it was a little dry/dull especially with no accompanying vegetables/starch. A la carte, It certainly left one entree looking inadequate compared to the other. Birthday dessert was very sad and looked very obviously like they took an ordinary round lemon cheesecake tart and simply cut it in half to save money. If you are going to serve a modest birthday desert, then don't make it look like you cut a normal desert in half. After a $200.00 meal for two (before tip), this seemed very cheap and unbecoming for this upscale restaurant. Pretty pricey - and other than paying at least $10.00 more per plate to see the harbor - not worth doing again from my perspective.
Also hostess not very attentive. We were handed our buzzer but never left the small waiting area. Only one other couple was present. She needed to buzz us when we were 5 feet away from her to let us know our table was ready. If you had many people waiting then I could certainly understand, but if she is keeping track of two couples in a waiting area which is very modest in size and completely within her vision, it does not convey the level of customer service and attention you would hope to see from a restaurant of this caliber.
Our waiter was “challenged”, either his mind was somewhere else or his hearing was poor
We were greeted at the door with a “happy Anniversary” - nice touch. Our Anniversary dinner was absolutely perfect. We split a wedge salad and had the filet trio. Our sides were green beans and au gratin potatoes. Each and every bite was incredibly tasty. My filet had so much flavor I chose not to use the bearnaise sauce. It was a beautiful evening. Enrique was a great server! He made spot-on menu suggestions and checked back with us often. Can’t wait to come back.
Good service and food! Exceptional location right on the water with breathtaking views
Had a great night on our anniversary dinner. The staff made us feel special and even brought us a dessert.
The food was excellent and service was excellent too.
From valet parking to the delicious food our experience was amazing. The service was top notch they even offered me a black napkin to stop white fuzz from the white napkins getting on my dress.
The waiters were very considerate, helpful, and constantly checked to make sure they were meeting our needs.
Our only "bad" experience was asking for sparkling water and they gave us still Voss water, but it wasn't a deal breaker.
Lovely evening, great service and the food fabulous!
We had a great experience dining at Island prime. It has one of the best services and the staff is very friendly.
Everything was phenomenal. At almost every special occasion, I eat a filet mignon. Island Prime had by far the tastiest filet mignon my boyfriend and I had ever had. They cooked ours the perfect amount (medium and medium rare). They had the creamiest mashed potatoes we had ever tasted. Our server was very helpful and funny. We had a beautiful view of the city. It was definitely the best dinner experience I had ever had. My boyfriend and I thought it was the perfect place for our anniversary dinner. We just wished we had room for dessert!
My husband and I went there to celebrate our anniversary. We very happy with the food and service that was provided to us.
I have waited years for the budget and the special occasion to try island prime, though I have been to C-level multiple times, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
It took a little while to get our table (8:20 for an 8pm reservation) so we had an calamari at the bar with some sangria, both excellent. Our server was engaging and personable throughout the meal without getting too chummy or personal. The pre-meal popovers are addictive and the meal was outstanding, cedar plank salmon and the filet trio, both cooked perfectly and well-balanced.
They made our anniversary a special event, and we will definitely return.
The food is amazing, the service is great, the views spectacular. What more could I want?
Island Prime is another jewel in the Cohen crown of restaurants. There are many distinctions that set Island Prime apart from other high-end restaurants and it all starts with their incredible menu. Chef Deborah Scott has continued a legacy of creating inventive and delicious dishes that leave the diner wanting more.
For a starter cocktail, I strongly recommend the Desi Arnaz, it's a light, tasty and very refreshing tropical mojito made with cruzan mango rum, papaya nectar, fresh mint & lime. So yummy. For an appetizer,I highly recommend the pepita and sesame crusted brie with garlic puree and jalapeno jelly. The brie is so creamy and the jalapeno jelly is so delicious it had me wanting to lick the dish clean. For the main course, I have always gravitated towards the double pork chop with gruyere au gratin potatoes, apple-pearl onion chutney, wild boar bacon and pommery mustard demi. The chop is cooked perfectly and is incredibly tender and moist. The portion is so big, I always have to take half of it home. If that is not enough to convince you to give this gem a try, the incredible service and spectacular view of San Diego harbor should entice you to give this culinary star a try. I promise you won't regret it.
Went a week after Valentine’s Day. AMAZING! Compared to Morton’s Steakhouse, Island Prime is top of the line. Had Ribeye and my girlfriend had Filet Mignon. Melts in your mouth. Took some left overs and was able to cut our steak with a butter knife the day after....that’s how tender it was. We went around 5:45pm and was able to catch the sunset. Beautiful scenery. Can’t wait to go back. Full compliments to the chef and our waiter!
James (server) was in tune with everything about the dinner!
Service was not bad but not great either. Requested water with lemon instead of cucumber- never received. Also felt ignored in general by waitstaff, and had unfinished plates removed from the table without asking. For some reason all the sides that came with our steaks were VERY sweet. Not sure why au gratin potatoes would be sweet except by mistake
Service was amazing. The food was fantastic. The deserts were very large and too good to be true. This place is worth the price, I'll eat here every time I'm in San Diego. Perfect!
Booking was on time and we got seats quickly. Service was not as good as expected. Our server was slow and didn't check in on us as reverently. Took us forever to order food and the food came out super slow. They waited for us to finished appetizer before bringing out the main course. Our dining experience took us 3 hours!!! Way too long for dinner.
We come to Island Prime about twice a year. The food is absolutely amazing. The best Rib Eye in San Diego is right here! 18oz bone in cooked to perfection. All the sides are served family style and can feed a small army. Cheese platter is our go too appetizer. The most notable thing here is the service! Jake was our most recent server, he was very knowledgeable and could answer all my families questions about various dishes. He was attentive but not intrusive and on top of that just a fun guy to talk too. I recommend Island Prime all the time, it's great for special occasions or anytime you want an out of this world food experience!
Valentine’s Date Celebration, it was quiet and romantic. We got a window seat, the view was beautiful. Everything was delicious!!!
