Island Prime Ratings and Reviews
I made reservations here over a month in advance and requested to simply have a table with a decent view as the main attraction seemed to be the location and view. Upon arrival, I was told I would be put in the back of the restaurant where it was noisy and felt like a regular restaurant but costed double the price and was given nothing but a quick "sorry" for it. The service made it obvious they are not fit to handle a busy night as the waitress had to constantly ask to give her a few minutes to check on the other tables, I don't blame her I blame the staff not being adequate on a weekend night for a full restaurant. I would only recommend going here MAYBE on a lazy Wednesday evening, nothing that has potential to be busy. The food was o.k. and honestly the best part about the restaurant as everything else left a lot to be desired. Negatively affected what was supposed to be a special evening. I only went to two places while in San Diego and I'd highly recommend Top of the Market over island prime if you're looking for a romantic setting with great service and food. Very disappointed in this place, will never return.
Our server and server assistant was AMAZING!!! The food was on point and LOVED every moment of the dinner.
We ordered the seafood tower and HOLLY MOLY was it amazing and the value was awesome! I also ordered the Surf & Turf entrée special and had never had a steak cooked so perfectly and the flavor was unreal!
Thank you to Jon Boyle (GM) & his team for making this an amazing and flavorful experience.
First time dining for my wife and I at this restaurant and we enjoyed our meal and the service. The staff was great and my only negative would be the small amount of self-parking forcing you to use valet but the price for valet was not terrible and they did a good job as well.
We had one of the best tables in the house at a corner window. The view was spectacular, and we are locals! The salad was wonderful. I ordered the filet trio and my husband ordered the prime rib. The filet was not as tender as it could have been, even though it was cooked perfectly, but my husband's prime rib was excellent. I will order that again next time for sure. The service was outstanding at both the bar and table.
It was my wife's birthday, and it was the perfect evening. Great Food, Service and a view. She does so much for me daily and this was my way of saying thank you, many talk about the adage 'The more expensive the better the quality', which may have been true 30 to 50 years ago. In our culture today that is not the rule but the exception, and the experience at the Island Prime was exceptional. Thank You.
Way to pricey for what you receive. The views are great of the waterfront and downtown San Diego skyline at night. 1 cocktail for myself and spouse, 2 salads, 2 appetizers came to $95 without tip. Valet parking is $7 per vehicle with very little free open parking available nearby. The food is good and presented very nicely. The servers are very good at offering suggestions for dinner, but there are long waits in between salads and the main course of food, as well as, receiving the check. Plan on spending a lot for a reasonable tasting meal.
Acoustically this place allows you to have a conversation. Food is pricey but I don't mind paying for good food. Massive popovers a real treat. My steak was excellent. My wife had lamb chops. They had to be sent back twice to get them cooked properly. The flavor was good but they were chewy and hard to slice even before we sent them back. Stay away from that item. I can definitely recommend the steaks. I still don't get this 3% surcharge.
First time at Island Prime and made open table reservation and indicated it was my anniversary. Was seated with a fantastic harbor view with a sunset view as well. Did it all. Lobster bisque, oysters , special cheese plate, my wife and I both chose the rib eye and she had king crab and I had lobster and finished sharing a brownie desert. Everything was excellent except the steaks were average. For a restaurant called Island Prime disappointed that the meat wasn't special and it wasn't cooked correctly. But overall meal was special. Also was called in the morning to confirm and said we would get a free dessert for our anniversary but didn't get it.
Although my Filet Mignon was amazing, it was a little weird that it was a la Carte and I would have to pay for sides or toppings. The menu itself was a bit confusing as well. To be fair I don't go to expensive restaurants very often. The server however was very nice and even took out a cocktail from the bill that my date did not enjoy. Overall the ambience was great but with a confusing menu it was hard to find something to enjoy.
We had a wonderful time in a beautiful setting. The server was excellent and my elderly mother loved that the manager came and spoke with us. They even made us a special dessert when we lamented that there was no chocolate options with the Restaurant Week desserts! It was a great evening!
Food and restaurant service was great but parking situation was horrible. First, you are forced to valet because there is very little self parking that is shared with 3 other restaurant. Valet staff not polite and wasn't concerned when everyone else's car came up except mine. They didn't even give an explanation so I had to find out for myself that a tow truck was blocking it so they could take care of another customer. It would have taken them a minute at most to move it so my car could back out. Needless to say, this experience ruined my dinner. One other thing, my mom is disabled and there was very little handicap parking none of which was available, so my mom was on her feet longer than she should of been. I finally had to find a place for her to sit while we waited for the valet.
Our waitress was terrific. We went during restaurant week so it was a condensed menu. I appreciated the lower prices but would have preferred to pay more for a meal I actually wanted vice settling for. My steak and sides were mediocre, but we loved the atmosphere. I am willing to give it another shot.
The Resturant had a great view although we were not by the window but we were a table away. The service was great! The host and waiter came by to check up on us and refill our water every other few mins. The food was delicious and very savory. There was creme brûlée for dessert and it melted in your mouth. The key lime tart and cheese cake was also to die for !
