Island Prime Ratings and Reviews
The service was impeccable and food outstanding! Our waiter catered to our every need and was very informative of the items on the menu. It was my boyfriend's birthday and they made a point to wish him happy birthday several times as well as give us a delicious birthday dessert. We had the surf and turf special for $75 each as well as a table next to the window with unparalleled water front views of the SD skyline. Couldn't ask for a better atmosphere or better meal! Thank you Island Prime!!
Our dinner was lovely, but the “happy hour” in the bar needs some improvement. There are very few drinks that qualify for happy hour. Our server, who wasn’t very friendly, could not even explain what “well “ drinks were. Only certain brands of alcohol qualified. Also the happy hour food was disappointing. There were 4 of us, we ordered the coconut shrimp and there were only 3 for 7.50 I think. Skip the happy hour and get an early reservation for dinner, you will also score a window table.
My wife and I met at Island Prime, so the restaurant has sentimental value to us. We go back every year on our anniversary, and have never been disappointed.
Great view, superb service, wonderful food, romantic ambiance. And they treated us SO well on our anniversary, we felt special. Thank your Island Prime!
This was my second time there it was a Monday after 8 so the place was slow. The service was slow we had to ask for bread. Bread was cold Ordered steaks medium well the outside was burnt and crispy. I should have complained I was tired and hungry. My wife and I vowed not return. Not sure what is going on there maybe it’s the Monday crew and they were tired from the weekend
We were early for our reservation and they seated us right away. We had an okay table...not the nice, empty booth we walked by but the table wasn’t next to the kitchen either. Our waiter, Jeff, helped us with the wine selection. He was very friendly and not condescending at all. My husband ordered the lobster tail, I had the king crab. We split a wedge (they split it for us in the kitchen and it was delicious and plenty for two). Then we ordered the twice baked potato, which was actually enough for 6 adults. We also had an order of oysters on the half shell. The king crab was beyond our expectations! Melt in your mouth good! Best I’ve ever had. Seriously! And I love king crab...Considering what we ordered, the value was decent. The only glitch was the costly wine. But we found a good bottle. The tab was close to $300. Service was great!! Jeff! We will bring friends next time.
This continues to be our favorite restaurant. The food and drinks are consistently well prepared and the wait staff knowledgable and professional. Our only negative continues to be the valet parking that has been in place since the opening of Coasterra. Previously parking was free and a benefit, now its an irritant that is not really necessary nor wanted.
The view is amazing!
I love the Filet trio; they always cook it perfectly and serve it on mash potatoes. Each three ounce filet is topped with mushrooms, crab or blue cheese. The blue cheese topping is my favorite. The bar will make any drink, but the sangria or the isle of zen are my adult beverages of choice.
The service is always exceptional at the bar. If you don’t have a reservation, you can dine at C-Level and if you request an Island Prime menu item they’ll ask the chef, but they have granted my request everytime I dined at C-Level.
The mud pie is a delicious ice cream dessert to share. I don’t like the taste of coffee and they claim it’s made from coffee icecream, but it is absolutely delicious.
My younger son and I went to Island Prime with my husband for his birthday. We were greeted by a friendly staff who asked about the birthday notice. We were initially led to a table that was located a bit more inside by a young man who did not seem to be vary familiar with things. Upon us requesting a table with better views, we were asked to wait a few minutes but was quickly placed at another table with great views by another more experienced lady. Everything went smoothly from there and our waitress was very friendly and knowledgable with the menu and came to us at just appropriate times. The food was delicious. For starters, we had a trio plate of samplers with fresh oysters, shrimp, crab claws, sushi tuna, Poke, and wine porched mussels, which were just about everything we wanted to try. The popover was huge and amazing and helped soak up the very flavorful juice from the mussels. My son's buffalo rib eye was cooked just right; my husband's cod was amazingly tender, and my black kale salad nicely seasoned. We finished our meal with the trio of sorbets which was just perfect for the evening. Taste-wise, I would give a five start also but I feel for the price and the place, the plating and presentation and ingredient pairing could go just a small notch up to make this restaurant a five start through and through. Overall, a fantastic experience and very good price for the food and service. Looking forward to another opportunity to come back again.
They should have a stricter dress code for island prime. The other side of the restaurant (C level) was “less formal” we were told. So we chose the island prime side because we were dressed up in a suit and dress for our honeymoon. But then a table right by us had jeans and a sweatshirt.
This was our second time eating at Island Prime . We had the twice baked potatoe stuffed herb lobster and it was delicious! We followed that with a Cesar salad which was very enjoyable. However for our main course, we ordered 12 ounces of Snake River Farms Ribeye Steak rare and it was cooked to perfection. On the side, we had some crab legs which were also very good.
The birthday boy opted for an 18 ounce Cesar River Rib Eye steak which he said was, “The best steak I have ever had!” The ambiance was perfect, the table overlooked the water and we could see all of Downtown lit up at night. The waiter was attentive, helpful . It was a very relaxing and a wonderful evening.
This was our 6 year celebrating our wedding anniversary at Island 🌴 Prime & this recent experience was exceptional & outstanding... our
Server Josh was amazing, he had a great personality, upbeat positive attitude & took time
To chat with us...he even brought a delicious clear your palate tasting appetizer...very attentive!!
We had the best seat!!! Island 🌴 Prime gets 10 stars... we will be back...thank you!
Great food and view. A little on the pricy side and they charge you for valet parking at $7.00 plus tip and the service is very poor and slow. If the weather is cold you have to walk to a booth pay your parking and wait for your car. Every time we go I could park myself and return to my car much faster than with the help of the valet service. Valet should be option only when dining at this restaurant
I made this reservation fro my wife's birthday. My wife and I had a glass of the Chilean Cabernet, the green salad, prime rib and split a baked potato. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. The restaurant confirmed our open reservation in the afternoon and when I asked about a window seat they said come about 15 minutes early and they would arrange to have one ready. Sure enough they had a beautiful table waiting for us upon our arrival. Beyond that they brought a delicious chocolate torte in honor of her birthday. Overall I was impressed. The only downsize is it is a little noisy but a lot of that had to do with the laughter and conversation from the guests which we did not mind but some might. Prices are not inexpensive but are a good value as the portions are nice sized and the food is excellent.
Absolutely perfect evening!!! A group of us went out for my wife's birthday get together. Everything was incredible...the environment, the wonderful service and the absolutely delicious food!!!! If I could give it 6 stars outta 5 would!!! Thank you Island Prime, for everything!
