A great experience- food was super and our server was awesome. We had forgotten that Sundays have a brunch menu not a lunch menu- so choices were different.
Our server was great. It’s slow(er) season here. The restaurant was not at all busy but the wait for drinks was long and our waiter was apologetic. He really shouldn’t be placed in that position. Highly recommend the wedge salad. The appetizer ribs were good as well. Times are tough and we hope for a better future for the Lava Java.
Great location across from the ocean. Good Mai Tai and the margarita pizza is hot and cheesy.
Always great food at Island Lava Java. It's nice to be back.
Had some great food here. Started with the ribs as an appetizer. I had the fish and chips. Fish was tender and breading delicious. Wife had salmon and it was dine perfectly
Had to ask for a wait person 3-4 times. Finally ordered drinks and food. I ordered a wedge with mahi mahi. And dressing on the side for both. My husband ordered a Caesar with blackened mahi-mahi. The waiter came out and said the chef didn’t have any lettuce for the wedge snd could he use something different. Both fish came out over cooked and rubbery and dry. My husband sent his back. No one seemed to care. We didn’t complain about the salads doused in dressing. My husband got a new dish. It was better but by then we were sick of the non-starter meal. Really disappointed.
We had a great waterfront table that was off the main path. Ordering is all done via touchless, contactless ordering. I would imagine the wait staff would help if needed however very impersonal. It just seems like a bit of “lost in translation” while dining. We had a coupon which made the payment change from contactless to needing help. The food was good. The drinks were okay. This is a good restaurant with great views.
The Big Kahuna Breakfast was very good. The over easy eggs were perfect; the fried potatoes seasoned well; the fruit slices had flavor. The mahi-mahi portion was on the smaller side and needed seasoning. Service was friendly if a tad slow. The reserved table was wonderful—right up front with a beautiful ocean view.
The food is delicious and the view is perfect. We had breakfast there 3 times during our trip. Next time we have to get there for lunch and dinner. Great service!!!!
Our server was awesome!
Lava Java has been our big island favorite for years. Great food. Friendly and professional staff. Good vibe. Great views.
Amazing views and good sized portions. We always come back to this restaurant when we visit.
If you order the catch of the day be sure to spend MORE and get LESS. Was served a small fish filet with garnish, no sides for $36. Could have fit it on an appetizer plate.
The rest of our order was fine, but I pitied those who got yummy fish but left HUNGRY.
Food was pretty marginal. Upstairs view blocked by phone lines
Service and setting was very nice. Drinks were good, but the food was disappointing. I had a Big Island pizza with Kahlua pork that was one of the best things I had ever eaten on a visit several years ago, and it was bland and not as I had remembered this time around. Not worth a special trip. Filthy bathrooms.
We sought out reservations at Island Lava Java because they took reservations for Christmas Day dinner. The location was perfect, our server was on the ball and the BBQ ribs plate was enough for 4. It was delicious.
Christmas brunch perfection. This place is friendly, accommodating, and tropically delicious. Huge burger and fries to keep the kid happy and fall-off-the-bone GF guava ribs for the adults. Mahalo Island Lava Java! A hui hou!
Been there many times during our holidays. Good Food. Nice Seating and good service
Fabulous restaurant. awesome food, drinks and service. Some of the best food for the money on the big island. I highly recommend it.
Just because a restaurant has a postcard view doesn't mean The food or the service will be equal.. But in this case the food and service are on par with or exceed the view!
We had two fantastic experiences at Island Lava Java while on the island... First was an epic breakfast then we returned for a fantastic lunch.
I definitely recommend grabbing a table through OpenTable as this place is very popular
Good service, great location
Our server was amazing - it started to rain and the whole staff helped to move us under the porch roof. Food and drinks were great. Will definitely come back for the food and view! Thank you for a great evening!
Island Lava Java is consistently very good; our Sunday breakfast was no exception. We were slightly disappointed that there was a Brunch menu on Sunday, rather than their usual breakfast menu. But that's a minor wrinkle in an otherwise delicious breakfast outing.
Great Breakfast!!! Don’t miss stopping here! We had pineapple upside down French toast, papaya with granola, and pancakes….all delicious! Make a reservation ( even for breakfast)!
We had a reservation and were seated quickly at check in. You can order via the WR code or with the server- we choose the server. We had the fish tacos and the ribs. Started with Ahi poke and a Caesar salad. Everything was delicious!
Tawney was absolutely awesome, as was the breakfast!
Amazing view, great view, happy service!
Best seared Ahi Eggs Benedict with crispy fried potatoes yet. Ahi was fresh and nicely sliced. A little pricey for breakfast but was worth it.
Great food, beautiful scenery, great wait staff, best place to eat in Kona.
Enjoyable lunch with Niçoise salad and shrimp pasta. Thursday is happy hour drink prices all day long! Good service and a nice setting right across from the ocean.
A must stop in Kona. It is nice to see the restaurant doing well after the pandemic years. The catch of the day had an unusual but delicious preparation, the short ribs were equally delicious, and the Mai Tais went down easy.
great breakfast spot! outdoors right across from water.
Great atmosphere, view, and menu options. The Bloody Mary was amazing! Candied Bacon and Jalapeños!
The breakfast was delicious and we had ocean front view.
Great food and great service! Worth it! The view is gorgeous too!
The beet salad with seared ahi is my go to. Despite the Ali’i tourist traffic, Island Lava Java is a regular dining spot when we don’t feel like cooking.
Great food, service, location. 5 star.
Will come back.
Great food, fantastic waiter (Daniel), great location
Nice dinner on Thanksgiving night. They had a traditional Turkey dinner on offer, so we had that. It was great. The MacNut Sticky Toffee Pudding was also delish.
