Group of 4 were there at Happy Hour. Drinks and food was great. We went back the next day.
Wonderful table by the water, enthusiastic service and food service quick. Generous portions.
Always a favorite with a great view! The food is always consistently good. Fish and chips and macadamia crusted fresh catch (mahi mahi) was hot and done to perfection. Service was quick and no rush at the end of the meal.
Such a wonderful place to have breakfast sitting across from the ocean and watching activity on the water. The food is always top notch with great service.
Was disappointed with quality of my favorite beet salad.
Ambiance and indoor/outdoor setting right on the ocean is wonderful. Food is fresh and good.
Nice location with a good ocean view. Menu seemed a bit limited but that might be due to the current COVID situation. Social distance maintained well. Service was fast.
Great service and good food. Wished breakfast was served until noon,
My son had the oxtail soup and salad, which he really liked. We had the hummus and house made chips-very tasty. We shared a grilled chicken sandwich, lots of flavor, white meat, good bun. We both had interesting and yummy coffee drinks, mine hot, his cold. Definitely worth a trip to the Kona side. The view was priceless, and we saw at least four pods of dolphins enjoying the bay.
I love Lava Java and recommend it to people on a regular basis.
Service was excellent. We had fish tacos. It came with good chunks of fish. The fresh fish Benedict was good also. The only so so thing of our meal is the big island salad. Very basic and tasted just ok.
Aloha,
First visit was 3 weeks ago. Mediocre food, small portions and undercooked. These are extenuating circumstances. Decided to give it round 2...Much improved on all levels. Wonderfully cooked breakfast ! Highly recommended to friends. Will be back on a regular basis if the high standard can be maintained.
Mahalos. Wishing all at Lava Java continued success in business and in life. Take care. Be safe.
So far the restaurants in Kona in general are doing OK. Not sure why, but Lava Java closed their upstairs seating, we were seated next to driveway to parking lot. Not the ambiance we hoped for. No one in Kona is serving anything but ONO and so far it’s very average. My assumption is COVID is forcing tough budget decisions and margin is really tough to manage.
Island Lava Java is a great spot to grab a bite to eat! A little pricey for breakfast, but the service (great staff!), good food and view totally make up for it. We would definitely go back. Thank you!
The food was good and the location was nice (right across the street from the ocean). The service was great. The price was fair. I was a little disappointed that the restaurant didn't acknowledge that it was a birthday celebration (which I had noted in the comments of the opentable reservation). Most places offer a birthday dessert. Very high tech - you can read the menu, order, and pay on your cell phone and still have some human interaction with the server.
Since allowing tourists back in I do not go anywhere else to eat. I can sit outside in the fresh air and have the best food in town. I also go only when Elisia is serving as she is the best part of the whole experience.
Breakfast-menu was decent. Menu is obtained using QR CODE on your phone. They also encouraged using that to place orders but also allow wait staff to take orders. I get that they are doing a lot of this for COVID, hopefully it's not a permanent process? I would much prefer a physical menu.
The food was excellent. Since we had a free entree, the price of the meal was most reasonable. Service was very good as well as ambience, especially as the location is across from the ocean. A very pleasant evening.
Great food and location.
Colleagues from work,get-together
Love the ocean view
Great food, service, really easy to order your items online.
Good breakfast with scenic views. Double check the order because sometimes they’re busy and can miss things.
Enjoyed our breakfast croissant one day and our poke bowl breakfast the next, also good cocktails and beers on tap. Lovely open air dining. App allows you to order and even pay all from your phone.
Lava Java has a history of being one of THE places to go... but with Covid, they are struggling like everyone is, trying to comply with regulations. The kitchen is, apparently, a little weak for who knows what reason -- so nothing was "excellent." Please don't order the guava-smoked ribs unless you like meat and sauce that has no taste. We didn't get our glasses of wine delivered until we were almost finished with our dinner.
Been eating here for about 15 years. Great food and best service ever.
Another enjoyable meal. Good food, excellent service and gentle ocean breezes
Everything expected was achieved. Friendly , fair prices, high quality food, fun and safe.
Made the reservation , because I knew the food, service, drinks would be excellent and the atmosphere and viewpoint would be excellent. By the way, the Eggs Benedict with smoked Salmon, was worth it all. I/We dine there because it’s our #1, source of great food, service. Mahalo for being open during this holiday season
Wonderful food and atmosphere.
Always a great meal and happy friendly service.
I loved this place great location ocean views and great food
Food and service was excellent
We did pupu platters and it was the perfect size to get a good sample for two people. The ribs were fall off the bone and delicious. The calamari was cooked just right.
We have great service 2/3 times we ate here . Our 3rd time we waited 20 min to even be greeted by a server . The bar tender noticed we hadn’t been greeted ( mind you we were passed by several servers and the hostess and never addressed ) or have drinks anything . He took great care of us and helped turn our very poor service into a good meal .
Lava Java always serves good food in a beautiful setting from breakfast til dinner.
Delicious and well priced for the quality and atmosphere
We had breakfast on a Saturday morning. Our server was friendly. Two of three entrees were awesome. One was not. The wait for food was a bit long but, we were catching up and didn't mind. Overall, a good experience.
Great Sunday Brunch with an unbeatable view. The island Benedict with mahi-mahi is amazing and it goes excellent with the lillikoi mimosa.
Had a great time at breakfast. Cool breezes, great views, tasty food and friendly service
