Waiter Jose and staff very friendly and helpful.
Would recommend to all.
We have eaten her before for brunch, but never did dinner, but knew the food would be great.
It just happened this was restaurant week in NYC, so we selected from that menu. The portions were large or 3 course at $42.
The food was very good with only the mussel appetizer being less than perfect. It was so spicy you could not taste the fennel or mussels , plus it was not served with a spoon for the broth.
The crispy chicken with polenta and collards ( my choice) was moist, crunchy and flavorful.
My husband had the blackened mahi mahi with BBQ sauce, which he enjoyed. The rice pudding was generous in size ( I could not finish mine) and sweetened with tropical fruits.
The server was friendly and attentive. All in all a very pleasant evening.
We had a Wonderful time. Delicious Lunch. Always have a great time at this restaurant
As a group of old friends, we have gathered here for lunch at least once a year and always find the menu items to be interesting, seemingly healthy, and tasty. The service this day was a bit slow even though the restaurant was not busy. However, we were also able to linger without feeling rushed and that compensated.
I have been here before and back again. Very delicious food options. Wine was great too.
We were at Isabella's with a somewhat picky eater and we knew that she ate 2 items on the menu. The restaurant was out of both items. The restaurant was accommodating and made a special dish for her.
We converged in NYC to celebrate the birthdays of two very special people. Isabella's is a beautiful restaurant - casual and elegant at the same time, it's whatever you want it to be. The food was delicious, and the servers were attentive and professional. They discretely took my cue and brought out a marvelous selection of desserts w/ lighted candles to create a festive end to our celebration. I'm already planning another trip to NY, and my next rendez-vous at Isabella's will include enough time to visit the nearby Natural History Museum, and take a walk through Central Park. Sounds perfect!
The food was delicious, but we were really squeezed in to a circular banquette to the point where we were actually uncomfortable. Four of us were in a space for maximum three, and then one sat in a chair in the open part. If they could not seat us normally, then they should have said so. Also we were seated in a slightly raised area, and the noise level was very comfortable.
Lovely venue in a great location for a meal after a visit to Museum of Natural History. Our server was helpful and friendly and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back.
I like this restaurant especially after an event at either the NY Historical Society or the American Museum of Natural History. The service was excellent. The manhattan cocktail was weak, the octopus was quite rubbery, although I had had it here before and it was excellent. The cod and the pasta was very good. Overall a good meal, but I had expected more.
I went on a Tuesday evening and the place was really calm and quiet. The menu was awesome and the service was great!!
Lovely comfortable restaurant with great bar, good food, and excellent service. One of our New York favorites.
We have come to count on Isabella's for dependably excellent food and friendly, efficient service. We were not disappointed by our most recent visit
I rely on Isabella's for its cheerful ambiance and something-for-everyone menu--it's nearly always a good choice for family gatherings or out-of-town guests. The windows looking out on Columbus Avenue give the dining room an open feeling year-round.
Food was delicious, service good and lovely ambiance.
Solid neighborhood standby. The food ranges from good to quite good -- the flatbread appetizer with onion confit and prosciutto was terrific -- but a the decor is a bit tired and at the peak of the dinner hour the place is uncomfortably jammed.
Value at brunch is better than what you get at dinner. Our server was excellent and the food was good. The Cranberry Shrub is a great cocktail. PS: a restaurant this nice shouldn't have a TV at the bar, it's trashy.
Isabella's has good food and a decent ambiance. it's somewhat crowded. The service at our last meal left something to be desired since we were not offered fresh pepper or cheese for our Italian dishes but had to ask for it. Also, our desert was cleared away without asking when we weren't finished with it.
I had never been there before but we had an out-of-town friend staying on the UWS so chose it based on online reviews. It was fine but nothing special--both the food was service were fine but in no way exceptional. I would choose another place next time around.
We looked for a place close to the NY Historic Society, and Isabella's fit the bill. Five of us all ordered different salad, and everyone enjoyed her choice. Service was friendly and efficient; the food fresh and tasty. Would recommend and return.
Food delicious. Good value for location. Nice ambience.
Delish reasonably priced food. Nice variety of choices on the menu. Amazing deserts. Excellent service. Great location right by Hayden Planetarium and Museum of Natural History. Will go back for sure!
We were disappointed. I would only recommend because of the location near the museum. The tables are small and seating a bit cramped. We sat for 15 minutes before a server came to inquire about a drink order. The restaurant was not busy during this time (not that it should excuse the lack of attention). By the time we finished, my guest had come to describe our server as "a bit grumpy." The food was okay, by no means exceptional. Would have been nice to have an alternative soup to Lobster Bisque that is cream-free and lighter. Also staff has not been trained to NOT remove plates when some diners are still eating. That is service training 101. We also didn't appreciate being sat at one of the worst tables in the house when there were other options available.
Muy desagradable la atención, no nos permitian tener dos mesas cerca, y mucho menos tener a niños juntos
My husband, my brother, and I took three teens (15,16,17) out for dinner for my brother's birthday on December 31. We arrived early for our reservation, but were immediately seated. Zac, our waiter, was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the food and wines. We adults enjoyed superb Faroe Isles Salmon, and Grilled Branzino; while the teens found burgers and chicken, much to their delight. A Sauvignon Blanc and a Pinot Noir complemented our seafood for the adults; and once again the teens had their sodas. The restaurant was well decorated for New Year's Eve, so it felt like it had been dressed up for our little party. Altogether, it was a very pleasant and special experience for out-of-towners from New England and Olde England.
We came here when my sibling and his family came from out of town. As most UWS restaurants-it's kid friendly-so we had a great time! Food was good, it's vibrant and fun. My husband and I will be coming back!
I really like Isabella's a lot --- however, they tend to seat older women in the back, in cramped spaces. On this particular day, the restaurant was packed with families and holiday visitors. It was noisy and cramped and the wait staff was a bit amateurish. The busboys/runners were terrific as was the hostess, however.
Only downside is it's noisy. But that's the price we pay for dining out in NYC.
Excellent family restaurant
After a long day at the American Museum of Natural History with 3 children, Isabella's was the perfect way to end our busy day. We were able to get a reservation ahead of time on OpenTable and our table was ready and waiting for us when we arrived. The menu was exciting, the food was delicious, the decor was beautiful and there was a great energy among both the patrons and staff. It was the perfect NYC dining experience for our family.
Always good but every visit, the tables seem closer together.
A great neighborhood restaurant that welcomes families of all sizes. The food was fresh and of excellent quality.
Tuna with porcini mushroom special was just ok
Bathroom and surrounding area was disgusting
Neighborhood Staple. Good food and service. During our dining experience, I was looking forward to the lasagna Al Forno; only to learn the restaurant ran out, and it was only 7:00pm. Although disappointed, our waiter made excellent recommendations which made me forgot all about the my lasagna craving. I would recommend their flatbread special (Roasted fresh tomatoes, garlic & oil, and ricotta cheese) and the Free Range Chicken. The Chicken was so flavorful and delicious!
Always great not just for special ocassion. Healthy meals everytime
This is the second time we have dined at Isabellas and found the service, food and total experience excellent.
Excellent accommodations, able to seat us before our reservation. Friendly service & good food.
Good for kids and lunch
We went on Xmas Eve and we felt the waiter was rushing us... didn't felt good because of te special occasion. Food great and nice restaurante. Probably not for special occasions!
Delicious Christmas eve dinner with 6 friends. All happy with our orders and the friendly, competent service. Will definitely return.
