About Irregardless Cafe
An authentic Raleigh experience! When the Irregardless opened in 1975, it was known as the hippie, vegetarian place. In the 80s, it was the first restaurant in NC to ban smoking. Today, the Cafe is the longest operating restaurant in Raleigh with the original owner. It has changed much over the years but its core values have remained the same. It’s award winning, hand-crafted meals feature local and organic ingredients. A casual fine dining restaurant, the Irregardless offers fresh seafood, meats, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menu items - which all respect the environment. We also have a list of unique wines and craft beers as well as espressos, cappuccinos and 25 loose teas.
Live music is performed nightly. Our large stable of musicians play everything from jazz to bluegrass. These groups are listed on our website. Larger bands play on Saturday evenings for dancing.
The Irregardless Cafe is the place where friends dine regularly.

Irregardless Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Expect the menu to be wrong and misleading. Our six piece shrimp stuffed with crab was really 5 piece (same with the table next to us). My bacon "wrapped" filet was really just a filet with a small sad piece of bacon on top. It seems like everything on the menu was misleading and really I came out of the experience laughing at it. So if you want live music and dissapointment this is the place for you.
We have enjoyed Irregardless many times. Last night was one of the best. The entertainment was two violinists who provided great background music without overwhelming conversation. Our menu choices were excellent. I had the Steak Frites and the meat was tender, flavorful and cooked to the right temperature. The fries are very good because of their fresh taste and skins left on. My wife had the Spanakopita that she felt it was the best ever. She also loved the medley of vegetables that accompanied the spanakopita.
Made a reservation on January 28th for Valentine’s Day. We were crammed into the bathroom entrance (seriously) with heavy traffic - from people going to the bathroom and servers squeezing by to get to their tables - going back and forth behind my chair. Also couldn’t hear anything my fiancé was saying as the music speaker was right behind my head. We left after one drink and made food at home. Do NOT recommend this restaurant on Holidays. Thankful that our server was understanding. Do better, Irregardless.
I enjoyed the atmosphere walking into the restaurant. Of course, it was a little more crowded due to Valentine's Day, but it wasn't unbearable. I know the servers were working really hard to get everything done, so I won't mark down for service. We did get our sears I soon as we walked in. Overall, the music and tone of the restaurant was nice. Not hard to get to like some restaurants downtown. I imagine that's why the restaurant next to Irregardless relocated there. I like the options of food, very creative. The presentation was nice, but food was just petty good. Definitely not horrible, but I imagine the vegetarian dishes are probably a little better. I'll have to go again one day and try another dish.
my husband and I went for a pre -valentine dinner. Our crab dip appetizer was great, and my husbands linguini with seafood was great. I had black sea bass special and the fish was excellent but it was served on sauteed spinach that was bitter and risotto that I didn't like. Usually we are very happy with all we're served, this was an exception.
I went to Irregardless Café when it first opened and continued to have lunches and dinners until about 1983 - LOVED it then and LOVE it now! Just the best food, presented beautifully on the plates, creative, and offerings for ANY one - my granddaughter had duck breast; my partner had a chicken kabob with hummus; and I had a Woodland Pie (vegan) which was wrapped in a phyllo dough. In addition, the owners have always been socially conscientious and continue to be so!
Was able to dine at this location for a Pre-Valentines Day meal. The service was superb and the food was exceptional. There was something for both of us on the menu as we like to partake in vegan and vegetarian meals. The temperature of the food along with the portion were perfect. The woman playing the harp added a certain je ne sais quoi to the evening and topped it off! Highly recommended!
I've enjoyed my visits to Irregardless Cafe everytime I've been there, but last week was a bit of a disappointment. The chili rellenos, which I've enjoyed in the past, had obviously been frozen and then zapped in the microwave. Some of it was very hot, some was still cold. My dining partner had ordered the same thing, but she sent it back for another zap. It was very noisy and the big thing I dislike about this place is the seating, especially if there are only two diners, is terrily cramped. I felt like I was sitting in my neighbor's lap! Furthermore, our table could only hold a few plates and glasses since it was so tiny. Our server was too busy to be adequately attentive. All in all, a so-so experience.
My all time favourite restaurant in Raleigh. Tahini dressing is the best ever. Servers were attentive. Was disappointed in our Bloody Marys as they were, unfortunately, very bland. That one small issue did not hinder our having a wonderful time. Food is consistently fabulous!
We go to Irregardless for every occasion, breakfast, lunch, dinner... We are never disappointed. This time we went for Saturday breakfast. I has the Florentine omelet and it was delicious. They also bring biscuits and cake before the meal and they were all so great. Also, we had to change tables because there was draft on our initial table. They were very understanding and changed the table no questions asked. There was also live music which my 1 year old son loved!
Celebrated birthday that we have enjoyed for 40+ years. Just like fine wine, Irregardless gets better with age. Service was friendly and efficient. The food was outstanding. I had the paella and my wife enjoyed the poached salmon. We also shared an appetizer, wonderful asian style flash fried calamari that was sweet and very crispy. It had been more than a year since we had eaten at the Irregardless, but we will be sure to return really soon.
We had a family dinner there with our son who is a Freshman at NC State. Two of us are vegan, one vegetarian, and one carnivore! All of our food was incredible including the vegan dishes! Also loved the live music! All four of us said we’re definitely coming back! Our son wants to bring his girlfriend there for a date too! It was a little pricey but totally worth it!
We made reservations, as we were attending the comedy show next-door after our meal. We went during triangle restaurant week, and definitely enjoyed the great value menu! The food was wonderful!
They definitely overbooked their servers. Other than waiting 45 minutes for our 8:30 PM reservation everything was wonderful. We completely understand during the busy week they are nice to accommodate as many as possible!
Wes at the bar, was good company to pass the time with before dinner and made a great martini!
