About Irregardless Cafe
An authentic Raleigh experience! When the Irregardless opened in 1975, it was known as the hippie, vegetarian place. In the 80s, it was the first restaurant in NC to ban smoking. Today, the Cafe is the longest operating restaurant in Raleigh with the original owner. It has changed much over the years but its core values have remained the same. It’s award winning, hand-crafted meals feature local and organic ingredients. A casual fine dining restaurant, the Irregardless offers fresh seafood, meats, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menu items - which all respect the environment. We also have a list of unique wines and craft beers as well as espressos, cappuccinos and 25 loose teas.
Live music is performed nightly. Our large stable of musicians play everything from jazz to bluegrass. These groups are listed on our website. Larger bands play on Saturday evenings for dancing.
The Irregardless Cafe is the place where friends dine regularly.

Irregardless Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Unique menu, great flavor, nice date night dinner.
The menu has some different entrees and it took us a while to choose what we wanted Our server was extremely helpful, listening to our likes , and helped us choose. We both ended up ordering Spanakopita. It came wit ha side of vegetables. The flavor was awesome. It would very much be considered as comfort food. We both really enjoyed it. The side vegetable were really exceptional as well. The service was excellent and attentive. Every few minutes our server was coming by and checking on her tables. The one thing that we weren't thrilled with was how loud it was. There was live music, but it was pleasant and sounded like background music. The loud volume was just people talking and the acoustics. It was tough to talk to each other at times. The food and service won out though and overall, a real treat.
Another awesome evening at the Irregardless Café! We have been regulars since moving here from Chicago over two years ago. Great location, fantastic food and service and if you plan your dining reservation right, you'll have background music during dinner and then dance with your significant other at 9PM when the next band starts playing. Love this place!
Irregardless is our favorite restaurant in Raleigh. For many years it has led the way with innovative, creative, tasty, and healthy food. We are always impressed with the latest dishes on the menu and are completely satisfied with whatever we order. The service is very attentive, and while the decor is rather simple, the staff makes you feel welcome and comfortable. While other restaurants come and go, we know irregardless will be here as an old friend with quality and a good meal at a reasonable cost.
The place has a nice atmosphere and probably would be ok to come and have a drink but definitely not for the food. I have had Chilean seabass a number of ways and this was the worst and don't bother with the paella unless you like tomatoes and tomato juice if the other entrees are anything like these two then you definitely want to stick to just the drinks.
I truly love visiting Irregardless Cafe', either for birthdays, casual lunch, or simple downtime after a busy phase. Therefore, this was not my first visit. I went to celebrate my birthday and invited people to join me who had and had not been there before. A couple of those people invited others, which increased the amount of people in my party. Irregardless was very gracious and handled the change with no problems. My food was delicious, as usual. The only concerns I had, which are minor, are that Irregardless usually recognizes one's birthday in some manner, and they did not do that this time, and our waiter was usually hard to find. However, when present, he was attentive. They were rather busy and I'll just assume that the oversight was due to the "busyness" of the evening. Other than that, I had a great time, laughed a lot, and enjoyed the music immensely! I highly recommend a visit.
I have been to Irregardless and handful of times and after this nights experience I hope to exponentially grow that number. The food, atmosphere, and music are all amazing. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The only down side was the aggressive Angel fish in the aquarium at the bar. This little gut literally made me and my date flinch. It was great entertainment for the short wait for our table.
We had a 7 pm reservation, we arrived on time and we did not get seated until 7:50. We witnessed two parties with later reservations get seated before us (same party size). We approached individuals in charge of this process twice and they were not apologetic....just noted they were busy. This was their first impression for us...and it was bad. Food was ok nothing special and for the price was not something I would go back for.
My husband and I have been to Irregardless about 4 times for special occasions. Live band is not too loud so you can still have a good conversation. The food is excellent with a variety of meal preference choices. Entrees with meat are a little above average in price, but worth it. We always get the humus for an appetizer which is very good!
Food was excellent and would definitely go back for that. The cafe was crowded and tables very close together which made it hard to have a conversation without hearing other conversations going on. Would recommend for a yummy meal however if your planning a date night maybe not so much.
Every time I come to Raleigh I have to dine here. This gem is my favorite restaurant in Raleigh. I'm vegetarian and I've tried several dishes here and every single one was nothing but amazing. I also love the live music and the lighting. Can't wait to come back.
I went For the first time with a friend before NC Symphony on a Saturday night. The restaurant is attractive; the food is quite good. The cocktails are unique. Service is spot on. The live music was a bit loud, but I’m very sensitive to noise. We could still converse and the band was better than most you’re likely to hear in the Triangle. We hope to go back and bring more friends from Durham.
I was very impressed with the cafe. This was my first time visiting and I selected it based on the reviews. I was a little concerned about my choice since it was a mixed party with carnivores and herbivores, but everyone was more then satisfied. Outstanding.
