About Irregardless Cafe
An authentic Raleigh experience! When the Irregardless opened in 1975, it was known as the hippie, vegetarian place. In the 80s, it was the first restaurant in NC to ban smoking. Today, the Cafe is the longest operating restaurant in Raleigh with the original owner. It has changed much over the years but its core values have remained the same. It’s award winning, hand-crafted meals feature local and organic ingredients. A casual fine dining restaurant, the Irregardless offers fresh seafood, meats, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menu items - which all respect the environment. We also have a list of unique wines and craft beers as well as espressos, cappuccinos and 25 loose teas.
Live music is performed nightly. Our large stable of musicians play everything from jazz to bluegrass. These groups are listed on our website. Larger bands play on Saturday evenings for dancing.
The Irregardless Cafe is the place where friends dine regularly.

Irregardless Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Great as usual. A local favorite of yours. I had the steak and frites, which was very good. Steak was surprisingly tender for a hangar steak. My wife had the mushroom stack. Irregardless is great for vegans, vegetarians and meatatarians. Live music is usually very good quality and appropriate for dinner and conversation, as it was Saturday. Service is fantastic, speedy and attentive, but not intrusive.
We booked this restaurant fire a small company Christmas get together. I was worried about the lube music during dinner conversation, but it did not interfere and added ambiance. We ordered appetizers for the table, the salt and vinegar fries were delicious. I had the Morgan street chicken which was amazing, the rest of the party had the steak and they said that was also delicious. Also ordered dessert which had rave reviews at the table. Overall the entire dining experience was fantastic, but the service was a little slow. It took us (a party of five) over 2 hours to complete dinner. I will be coming back again and also recommending the restaurant.
Have eaten here several times and as usual, food was fresh & tasty. Friend joining us is vegetarian and had numerous choices and was very satisfied. Only mild complaint is that I was not impressed with draft beer choices and server could not accurately describe them - perhaps they need a printed sheet or card showing their current offerings. Solved this by having a glass of very nice wine!
Ruined my anniversary, no one acknowledged that i had called ahead and ordered a picece of ake with a candle for our anniversary!
Someone came out and said they did not honor yelp coupons!?
Dessert was nasty, waitress was a nit aloof about what we were asking her for.
This was my first time and I will be returning. The staff was extremely friendly and provided great suggestions about the menu. The food was amazing and came out quickly. The ingredients were fresh and the seasonings were perfect. The performance was great although it was hard to hear as her mic was not loud.
Excellent diner, as it always has been, in our experience. We favor vegan food, and it Irregardless is one of a handful of restaurants we visit in the area. The only caution is the ambient sound level. We ate early and it wasn’t crowded and the live music was low volume but by the time we left, it was different to carry on a conversation comfortably. It won’t stop us from returning though!
I lived in Raleigh 33 years ago and this was my favorite restaurant then. Recently I was back in the area visiting friends and brought them here - so happy to see that it is still an awesome restaurant. We all had a drlicious dinner, enjoyed the live music, service, the whole scene! Now I can’t wait to return to see my friends and go to Irregardless again.
We went there for a family dinner over the Thanksgiving holiday. Have never been before. My wife and son are vegans and there were good options for them and the rest of us. Food was tasty and the atmosphere was fun and upbeat. Service was outstanding. Not inexpensive but it was reasonably priced. Would definitely return.
Brought out-of-state visitors (a standard for us) for this Raleigh classic. Brunch was superb! The steak and eggs (done with a skirt steak) was the best I have had in many years in a restaurant. Huevos rancheros were a big hit also. Also, the Everything Bagel w/ Salmon was scarfed down quite quickly, and enjoyed immensely.
Endless OJ appreciated
I must state from the start that Irregardless Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants in Raleigh. My family and I try to get there at least once per quarter.
Our last visit, however, was sub-par. Our server for reasonably attentive, but not very warm. The bigger problem, however, was with my son's dish.
He ordered the paella, which he has had at Irregardless before and usually loves. Something happened with his order, however , and when our server brought everyone else's entrees, she made mention of a delay with his dish but never specified what the problem was.
About five minutes after the other entrees were served, my son was brought his paella and it was not good. it was incredibly greasy, leaving us to believe that it was put together quickly due to the unknown problem with his original order and was not sufficiently cooked. That he ended up getting sick overnight after eating this did not feel like it was coincidental.
As we've eaten at Irregardless dozens of time and always previously had great meals, this won't deter us from coming back. If this was our first visit, however, we probably would not.
Unique menu, great flavor, nice date night dinner.
The menu has some different entrees and it took us a while to choose what we wanted Our server was extremely helpful, listening to our likes , and helped us choose. We both ended up ordering Spanakopita. It came wit ha side of vegetables. The flavor was awesome. It would very much be considered as comfort food. We both really enjoyed it. The side vegetable were really exceptional as well. The service was excellent and attentive. Every few minutes our server was coming by and checking on her tables. The one thing that we weren't thrilled with was how loud it was. There was live music, but it was pleasant and sounded like background music. The loud volume was just people talking and the acoustics. It was tough to talk to each other at times. The food and service won out though and overall, a real treat.
Another awesome evening at the Irregardless Café! We have been regulars since moving here from Chicago over two years ago. Great location, fantastic food and service and if you plan your dining reservation right, you'll have background music during dinner and then dance with your significant other at 9PM when the next band starts playing. Love this place!
Irregardless is our favorite restaurant in Raleigh. For many years it has led the way with innovative, creative, tasty, and healthy food. We are always impressed with the latest dishes on the menu and are completely satisfied with whatever we order. The service is very attentive, and while the decor is rather simple, the staff makes you feel welcome and comfortable. While other restaurants come and go, we know irregardless will be here as an old friend with quality and a good meal at a reasonable cost.
The place has a nice atmosphere and probably would be ok to come and have a drink but definitely not for the food. I have had Chilean seabass a number of ways and this was the worst and don't bother with the paella unless you like tomatoes and tomato juice if the other entrees are anything like these two then you definitely want to stick to just the drinks.
