Ironwood Steak & Seafood at The PGA National Resort & Spa Ratings and Reviews
The only dinner option at this resort hotel.
Very good wine list with lots of interesting bottles.
Sides were the stars - especially the Brussels sprouts, duck fat fries, and creamed spinach.
The strip steak was quite disappointing. Not very thick. Seemed more like something I would find at Outback although priced like Morton's or Ruth's Chris at $51.
With so many restaurant options within one mile of the resort, I don't know that I would return to this restaurant.
We live relatively close by PGA and have dined there on many occasions. We always seem to have problems with the wine list. Invariably, the wait staff cant find the wine we ask for and then the food and becerage director shows up and says his wait staff should have asked him and then the apologies start. This would be fine if it were once or twice - but always?! Tonights meal was just so so. Surf and turf was ok, not great. NY strip was grisly and overcooked. Mushroom side was overcooked to the extreme - looked like nuggets of pet food rather than plump mushrooms.
Overall service was good. Ordered the surf and turf special and was not impressed. Filet was overcooked and had to send back. I rarely do so and am always hesitant on returning food. Second steak was better but lacked flavor and the blood on plate that a medium rare steak should offer. Steak lacked the flavor of a fillet good chance was a frozen cut. Manager never came to table to apologize nor was it adjusted on bill. Higher end pricing on all menu options. Will eat at bar located outside restraunt when returning.
The ambiance in Ironwood is beautiful. Unfortunately, the food doesn't measure up...the bread basket is mediocre.
The shrimp cocktail was great..
The Atlantic Salmon for $35 is pathetic. For that price is should be Scottish Salmon with creative sides. Mashed potatoes don't go with Salmon. The broccoli was totally boring and plain. Not at all special and the cheddar sauce was awful.
The surf and turf was well priced.
The filet mignon was outstanding.
The Maine lobster tail was soooo salty we couldn't taste the lobster at all. The chef told us they out the tails in brine. That totally ruined them. Then on top of that the tails were seasoned with more salt.
NO taste of sweet lobster whatsoever. The side of corn was delicious. The creamed spinach was forgettable. The lobster Mac and cheese was ok, not great.
The complimentary 2 desserts were horrible. We couldn't eat them.
The waiter was very good, but a little too friendly.
The setting was what we wanted and we enjoyed being in that ambience. Unfortunately, would not return until the menu changes and the food improves.
We spent the weekend at PGA National where Ironwood is located. The reservation was made for Saturday night knowing we would be staying there. In the reservation I said we would be celebrating our anniversary. They made note of that and treated us to a nice dessert as the end of the meal. The food was good and the special of a lobster tail and filet was excellent as was the salmon. Our waiter was OUTSTANDING and always made sure everything was to our liking and addressed all our requests. I don't think you need a special occasion to enjoy an evening of excellent food and service. We will again plan on having a nice evening there.
There were 4 of us in attendance. Each had a different meal. The lobster tails were slightly overcooked. The lamb for medium rare was mostly medium. The scallops and another fish dish were good but not exceptional. The She crab soup was excellent. The wait staff was friendly and efficient . The atmosphere was attractive and good for conversation but there were very few in the restaurant. The valet service was excellent. My concern was the value of the meal. I believe for this restaurant , it was overpriced. For that reason, I would not recommend it to my friends.
Being local we rarely eat out at a hotel restaurant, but we had a tropical depression settle in and it would not stop raining. Hence my bright idea to go there because of the covered canopy and valet parking. I must say we were very pleased with everything. Although the place was quiet the staff was very attentive and to our surprise the food was excellent. Two fish dishes I think it was snapper they both enjoyed and I had the barrel cut filet cooked to perfection. Go check it out, a big surprise find for a local.
Never lets us down. Superior service, fabulous wine list, great menu, and overall solid dining experience every time. I had the fillet , Salas's & sides are served à la cart, but plenty for at least two or more. A neighborhood favorite, and recommendation for all her visit the area.
Our server was very overwhelmed. We don't understand why the "manager" checked in with other guests, while we were repeatedly waiting for our server, drinks & food on more than one occasion. There was one point that we had to let our server know that we were done, no dessert and would take our check she then walked by us 3 times, in the 20 minutes we waited for her. We ended up having to stand up from our table to get her to engage with us. It ws 10:12 at night, it wasn't packed...
our server girl was very good and fun character which made for a relaxed evening our family from Ottawa Canada where sorry that the n golfshop was not open have been there several time and always find it great with family friends or others and do recommend it. len / tequesta
Although the steak for two I shared with a friend was very good, my wife and her friend each had the roast chicken dinner and complained that it was much to salty to the waiter. He offered no suggestions or alternatives. We also checked with some at nearby table some of who were having the roast chicken and they had the same complaint, that it was much to salty. So my suggestion is you stick to the steak and don't have the chicken.
Absolutely terrible. A 7 PM reservation and food arrived after 9PM. All three steaks were overdone and we received no apology from the waiter or manager. The server, Adrian, from Transylvania, paid little attention to our table all night long. will NEVER return
Our last visit was disappointing. We have been going to Ironwood for several years, this most recent one did not live to the usual experience.
Service was sluggish, even if the restaurant was not overly busy. The food was not up the usual standard. Also had problems with the wine ordered and priced charged. Very disappointing compared to all our previous experiences at Ironwood.
Until now, I have never had an unpleasant experience at Ironwood. I told my guests that everything on the menu was fabulous. Unfortunately, this evening the food was sub par, timed horribly, and the birthday boy's dinner was overcooked (almost twice). By the time the replacement steak came out, and it arrived almost as overcooked as the first, everyone else was done eating their dinners. We had to wait an extraordinary amount of time for the salad course. My steak was just warm. We received two creamed spinach sides instead of one and the fourth side that we ordered. We were also advised that the sides would be enough to share (note, there are six people in this dinner party). They were not -- perhaps enough for four, but definitely not enough for six. I alerted the manager of the issue, but he never once presented to the table to apologize or offer any reasoning for the poor dining experience. I was mortified because the restaurant selection was my idea. I do not think I will suggest Ironwood again in the future.
