About Ironside Fish & Oyster

Little Italy was built by the fishing industry. Ironside attempts to continue that narrative. It's our contemporary interpretation of the classic fish house and oyster bar. Located in a historic auction house on India St we did a full comprehensive restoration of the building, with three open-air culinary hubs featuring an expansive raw bar, chefs table, and bakery. We tried to be mindful of the past while looking towards the future.

Reservations do not guarantee a dining room table, but may be seated at our elevated lounge tables, shared community tables, or counter-style seating depending on availability.

Parties of 6 or more will be subject to a $20 per person cancellation or no-show fee if less than 24 hours notice is given.

During our happy hour, we serve chef features, guest favorites and have a limited menu.

The hostess was having a bad day. She was not pleasant at all. It took her a while to acknowledge the guest in front of her. I get that she was busy but she should be smiling and engaging her guest and she was not. The server and the food was fantastic.

Ironside is one of my favorite restaurants. It’s always worth the drive to the Little Italy to enjoy a lovely evening of good food and friendly service.

Food was very good, we got the lobster and some sides... You'll have to work the claw meat out yourself, but it's delicious. The waitress was a bit inattentive, but the rest of the staff was on point. The drinks were all outstanding, so make sure you go on a slower night to get good attention at the bar.

Everything was delicious! My swordfish was melt in your mouth delicious. Chowder fries, split lobster, lobster roll, & oysters were done perfectly. Ironside has a fun relaxing atmosphere I would definitely recommend.

Happy hour is a steal! Great food and service. Didn’t love where we sat (asked to be moved away from a pillar and we were moved to sit next to another pillar).

Definitely a GREAT place to go. Crab cake was incredible but pricey.

I was really really disappointed by the quality of food at this restaurant. The SD Rock Crab was almost inedible, it was so tasteless. I had two bites and had to leave the rest. The swordfish toast was tolerable. My friends had the lobster roll and thought it was pretty sub-par as well. I'd rather pay more and go to some place like Island Prime - you spend more, but at least you're not throwing money away. The only bright spot is that the decor is interesting and fun, and it's a very pretty restaurant.

We went for Oyster Happy Hour and loved the bargain oysters, drinks, and great service. Our only complaint was that the seats at the oyster bar were extremely uncomfortable. Still, we'll be back!

The ambiance and food are spot on for this new comer to Little Italy. We would drive from North County to dine here because the fish is that good!!

We have eaten there several times either for lunch or dinner. Great on a warm night to sit outside and enjoy a delicious bowl of chowder or share oysters. The fish is always grilled to perfection. The staff is amazing, attentive, friendly and understand the items on the menu with being able to recommend something that's right for you, including any special cocktails.

Food was very good. Clam chowder was excellent - but very rich. Best cole slaw I have had at a restaurant (served with fish and chips). Chips were a little salty. A little bit pricey for everyday dining and a little noisy, but that goes with the type of decor.

My boyfriend and I have been to Ironside several times now and love it every time. Last night, however, was probably the best experience yet, all thanks to our amazing server Alexis.
We were celebrating an anniversary and Alexis truly made the experience special! She provided great service, gave us great advice on our oyster choices, made us laugh and was just an absolute delight!
Thank you so much Alexis, we’ll be back to visit you soon!

This was probably my fourth experience at this dining establishment. Food was disappointing. Ordered the octopus as one of our appetizers as it was highly rated. This long tentacle arrived. Tasty but odd. No one in our group loved it. My husband and I ordered the halibut as an entree. The brith was too salty and the fish was over cooked and did not have a flaky texture at all . Unimpressive given the hype. Very nice decor and atmosphere , too bad about the food.

Oysters oysters yum. Fresh fish, good portions everyone enjoyed there selections, —-salad, octopus, chowder , fish and chips, mako , lobster roll, and sword fish so we had a good selection of items. It was good.
A bit loud, get reservations for standard ,not bar seating.
Waiter was awesome.
We will go again.

Ironside was a last-minute decision, but I'm so glad we decided to try it out! Table seating was booked, but Ironside has a lot of open bar seating at different sections of the restaurant. We were sat at the bar at the very back of the restaurant backed up to the kitchen where a crew of 5 chefs were doing their thing. Not only did we have a waiter, but the chefs would interact with us and give us their recommendations. They even gave us a sample of their shark, which was amazing! When it came down to ordering we started with cocktails - so delicious. For dinner, neither my boyfriend nor I were super hungry, so we ordered mussels, ceviche and the chowder fries. All were amazing, but wouldn't order the chowder fries again. There were definitely more innovative and interesting things on the menu. All in all, we had a great experience. Would definitely go back to Ironside and recommend to friends and family in the area!

Nice to find a place in San Diego that feels more like New York. Cool decor, great seafood and raw bar, tasty cocktails, loved the oysters and the shrimp. Fantastic octopus appetizer - really soft and flavorful. And finally a place that can create a really delicious cocktail without smothering it in sweet taste - Skubic Diver.

Service was not good. I ordered a cocktail and it came half empty. When I told the waiter, Austin M, he had the nerve to ask me if I drank it. I showed him the empty portion of the glass was spot free. Instead of apologizing, he acted like I was a criminal trying to get my drink free. He did take the drink back and brought me a new, full one. We ordered 6 Oysters. 4 were fresh but 2 didn’t taste as fresh and were a little fishy. The ceviche was delicious. The lobster roll and the clam chowder were very good. The server delivered the food and we did not see our waiter, Austin, until we were finished and ready for the check. He did not come to check on us once. We were forced to eat are french fries without ketchup. I will not go back. There are too many other great restaurants in San Diego to try.
