About Ironside Fish & Oyster

Little Italy was built by the fishing industry. Ironside attempts to continue that narrative. It's our contemporary interpretation of the classic fish house and oyster bar. Located in a historic auction house on India St we did a full comprehensive restoration of the building, with three open-air culinary hubs featuring an expansive raw bar, chefs table, and bakery. We tried to be mindful of the past while looking towards the future.

Reservations do not guarantee a dining room table, but may be seated at our elevated lounge tables, shared community tables, or counter-style seating depending on availability.

Parties of 6 or more will be subject to a $20 per person cancellation or no-show fee if less than 24 hours notice is given.

During our happy hour, we serve chef features, guest favorites and have a limited menu.

We were told we’d be at the kitchen counter but were sat in the lounge (opted for the counter option vs. an actual table). One side was a nice banquette but the other was a fairly uncomfortable stool without any back support. Food was amazing, service was some of the best, and, for a place so busy, ticket times were phenomenal. Only the one complaint. Would recommend to a friend (but suggest reserving a table.)

This is my 2nd time dining here, but first time for dinner. My bestie and I dined here prior to going to see Hamilton at the Civic Center. We had made a reservation on Open Table earlier that day. We sat at the kitchen counter at the back counter near the kitchen. It was fun. Our server was knowledgable, attentive and was able to guide us in the right direction on the menu according to our preferences. Started with an Old Fashion, delicious, then a Boo Koo IPA. The kitchen gave us a complimentary Mako shark skewer which was tender and flavorful.

For dinner we each chose a fish plate, 1 opah and 1 Swordfish. Both were very good. We decided to share the brussel sprouts as a veg, and started with the crab cake. I would highly recommend the crab cake. It is all crab, not breadcrumbs.

Our server was awesome and had us out of the there in the time we needed, approximately 1 hour from start to paying the check.

As I mentioned, I have been here for lunch and had the lobster roll, which is no joke. Definitely an authentic New England style lobster roll. If you have not had one, try it. Sitting at the counter, we watched meals being prepared and plated. They all looked good. We wondering about the fish and chips as well, which looked lightly breaded and fried, not greasy looking.

I can't wait to return, but it was packed when we walked out to walk to the Civic Center, reservations are a must.

Nearly 3 years ago, my boyfriend brought me here the day he asked me to be his girlfriend. This past week, we made our way down south to watch Hamilton and decided to grab an early dinner at Ironside. I love this place for the ambiance and the memories. Our dinner reservation was during happy hour so we were able to snag some $1 oysters which were delicious. I definitely recommend the Lobster Roll. That's my absolute favorite here! Ambiance is pretty casual and prices are fair. I really enjoy coming here.

Phenomenal food. If you like sharing, get a bunch of the small plates. Don't miss the swordfish toast. Everything was delicious. You won't miss with any choice here.

Went for lunch. One person had the crab cake sandwich and said it was excellent. Another had the local tuna but was disappointed that it only came with broccolini, she wanted a starch such as potatoes. I had the shrimp toast which was fresh but bland. No bread provided. Loved the decor and ambiance.

Overpriced. Over noisy. Under attentive service and disappointing food.
We specifically asked to sit at a table and were asked to sit at a high chairs when we arrived. Had to wait 15 minutes for a table that was practically clean and unused until it was set. Service was slow and inattentive. There was no communication between the waiter and servers as well. Noise level seemed to increase as people left because the staff upped the volume. Choosing big band music with lots of brass didn't help either. Our appetizer cauliflower was under cooked and over charred. The mains (swordfish with sunchoke and the snapper with romesco) were unevenly cooked. One too dry...one not enough. Shelling over $100 (after tip with one cocktail) for that?

Perfect meeting place for long time friends who love oysters! They were cold and delicious! We also had grilled octopus and shared a total shepherds fish between the 4 of us. Little Italy’s India Street was the perfect stroll after a satisfying meal.

Our meals were outstanding, I had the Thresher shark over bok choy. The fish was cooked perfectly and the sauce was so good.

Ironside provides a cool atmosphere with excellent service and stellar food. Six different oysters for 18 dollars is reasonable and the cocktail shrimp are enormous. The octopus a la plancha was a highlight and the thresher was amazing. Well done.

This place was recommended by a blog I follow and we couldn’t be happier that we came. It was the highlight of the trip and by far the best seafood we’ve had in California! Loved chatting with the chefs at the chefs table!

This restaurant was recommended to us by another restaurant we ate at in Little Italy. The overall experience at the restaurant was great and food was even more incredible. The only problem was despite having a reservation booked in advance, the previous people dining at our table were not done their dining experience therefore we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. Overall I highly recommend this restaurant!

Laberster roll is very good, but the fries is pretty bad, not crispy enough, “warm” instead of hot. I was even wondering if the fries is made-to-fresh? As for the octopus, very disappeared, the texture is totally not a fresh octopus should be, I will say this tastes like an okonomiyaki. If you have any friends know how fresh octopus taste like, don’t order this dish.

Ordered clam chowder soup, lobster roll - excellent taste for both plates. The soup could be a bit warmer, but it had great flavor. Would definitely recommend Ironside - but make reservations as they tend to have a long wait time if you dont.

We had a 3 pm reservation and when we got there we found out that they had happy hour only from 3 ending at 5 pm. This was good and bad, Good because we were able to get some very good food at happy hour prices. Bad because the happy hour menu was limited to such thinks as $1 oysters. All the food was great and we finally were able to order dinner. Had the swordfish which was cooked just right. So all in all we had oysters, shrimp, crevice, the swordfish and oh I forgot more oysters.

It was a very chilly night, even though we were seated inside at least 30 ft from the front, we were frigid during our entire time there. I’m known to never send anything back, only a few times in my life have I ever. My first fish tasted foul and had to be sent back.

Told the waiter and he did take it off our bill

Oysters were good. Lobster roll was good, though it could have used a little more Lobster. Lots of dishes come with french fries on the side... The lobster roll, fish and chips... But don't ask for ketchup, they don't have it!
